  1. In 1985 when this song came out I was 19 and had a job so I possibly along with VH here on these forums toy hunted while you guys still had bed times.

I would hit a toy store on my hometown of Norwalk Ct called Kiddytown where I found alot of G1' sand my die cast Lion Force Voltron in three different sets which cost $20 per set and the were made by Matchbox and I got Ultra Magnus there too.At the time TRU never existed in my area it was one of those places I heard of far away. The next town over I did hit

Child World and Woolworth's when it still was in this country.

Plus at the time I wasn't into alot of lines so the only other place my money went to was buying albums Thanks to MTV for that. But nowadays I find the music deplorible and wouldn't waste my money on music.

Were you guys collectors or did you open everything. Do you still have anything from you hunting days during that time?

Hey did you have a Kiddie City around you?

I was born in 1962, so my introduction to G.I.Joe was in the late 60's and early 70's with the original 12" Adventure Team Joes. It was a fluke that I encountered my younger cousin playing with a Destro figure one Christmas holiday, and I asked what it was and he told me all about the NEW smaller G.I.Joes.

Weeks later I was out and about, maybe at an old Gray Drug store or Woolworths back then, and spotted some of the figures. I went out later and stopped by a Childrens Palace and the aisle was loaded with them. I purchased a couple on a whim for sh@#s and giggles, and the rest is history. That all begand in Christmas of '83, so by the next year, I was a regular collector of the ARAH G.I.Joe line at 22 years of age, and YES I opened almost everything back then. happy.gif MOC is for chumps!

Since you were an adult collector when you started did you manage to keep all your originals and did you buy vehicles back then too like the Flagg and Defiant? Also since were apart of both, which do you like better the original version or the RAH version?

I've still got every last bit of it and even the Terrordrome and USS Flagg. All but the Defiant.

I need help with how to properly construct my sentences sometimes, so if anyone catches a common error I make, feel free to let me know. ;)

  5. This song is constantly trashed and downplayed...........however its catchy, captures the era perfect and is just pure fun. For all those who thumb their noses to prentitous music critics/listeners here is Jefferson Starship in all their 80's glory

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7flrwE-bZVo&feature=related

Don't be afraid, all you TNI members love this song....how could you not???...lol

I was a fan of Starship way back when they were Jefferson Airplane and a fan of Mickey Thomas when he was singing the tunes for the Elvin Bishop Band on this little diddy..

I think the issue with the song We Built This City, is that it got played to death on MTV and the radio stations at the time. Obviously it's a great tune, but the heavy rotation of it, burnt a lot of folks out. It's still a good tune.

Perfect example of what I'm talking about. Great Petty song, ruined by a goofy video.

I loved it when Journey and Van Halen both refused to do these crap videos for their new albums one year, with the only exception being LIVE performances of their songs or in Van Halens case ONE song dedicated to the Blue Angels..

Despeartely trying to redeem themselves from the idiotic GARBAGE (of a music video OVER production) like this moron...

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lN-4lX0QyZc

If you were between 10 and 15 in 1985....this crap probably appealed to you.

  8. This is one of those songs that I think were hurt by it's MTV video. I can listen to this song over and over again on my Tom Petty's Greatest Hits CD and totally block the video out of my mind and enjoy it.

In other words, you had your own music video in mind. ...or just liked the song. Period.

Regardless for many years I've always imagined better videos that the original artist put out. I remember being disappointed by what I saw as opposed to what

I would have made. If it was up to me, music videos would be much more spectacular.

Just food for thought. :D (Or at least MY thought.)

I always liked the earlier, more simple, basic, music videos.

As soon as they got too artsy fartsy (spectacular) they lost me. I hated all the big production numbers and mini-drama stories they starting making for these videos. Probably why that era of MTV DIED? It was a thrill to see our favorite performers singing their hits in a lip synced video of the songs we loved. The other crap just mucked it up. I don't want to think of Alice In Wonderland when listening to Tom Petty tell us "Don't Come Around Here No More". ^_^

  9. I like it!

I was looking at those other HISS tanks in the contest as well, and they were definitely some amazing paint jobs on it. Almost every single one of them (including yours) is a step above the bland turd Brown version that Hasbro released. Brown with RED?? That's a horrible combination.

Yours really stands out and has a very unique look to it.

I'm still of the opinion that a canopy is needed, be it glass or (as you and others have done) a distinction of color over what would be the canopy area, even if it is equipped with all the latest and greatest technical features of digital imagining software. I'm not all that hung up on having these toys reflect reality, and much prefer they be FUN to play with and visually appealing and interesting. Seeing a driver at the controls in battle mode is an easy one. They added unrealistic foot pegs to all the old vehicles for this very reason....kids want to pile on the action figures, the same as they want to snap on the added gear to the figures themselves.

Good job on your HISS custom. ^_^

  10. I always liked these guys..

    Here, have a dollar,

in fact no brotherman here, have two

Two dollars means a snack for me,

but it means a big deal to you

    Be strong, serve God only,

know that if you do, beautiful heaven awaits

That's the poem I wrote for the first time

I saw a man with no clothes, no money, no plate

    Mr.Wendal, that's his name,

no one ever knew his name cause he's a no-one

Never thought twice about spending on a ol' bum,

until I had the chance to really get to know one

Now that I know him, to give him money isn't charity

He gives me some knowledge, I buy him some shoes

And to think blacks spend all that money on big colleges,

still most of y'all come out confused

    Go ahead, Mr.Wendal

    Go ahead, Mr.Wendal

    Mr.Wendal has freedom,

a free that you and I think is dumb

Free to be without the worries of a quick to diss society

    for Mr.Wendal's a bum

    His only worries are sickness

and an occasional harassment by the police and their chase

    Uncivilized we call him,

but I just saw him eat off the food we waste

Civilization, are we really civilized, yes or no ?

Who are we to judge ?

When thousands of innocent men could be brutally enslaved

and killed over a racist grudge

Mr.Wendal has tried to warn us about our ways

but we don't hear him talk

Is it his fault when we've gone too far,

and we got too far, cause on him we walk

    Mr.Wendal, a man, a human in flesh,

    but not by law

I feed you dignity to stand with pride,

realize that all in all you stand tall

Mr. Wendal, yeah yeah yeah, Lord, Mr.Wendal

  11. ....and with no cell phones or cell phone systems back in 1928.........just who the heck with this person with their "cell phone" be talking TO????

    Kinda silly ain't it? @loll@

A hand to the side of the face in 1928, and a women talking (likely to the man walking in front of her) does not, a time traveling conspiracy, make.
