I would like this scenario. It would mean that all the painty-waist ninny "heroes" who wrongly followed Captain America in his wrongheaded battle agaibnst the completely rational REGISTRATION ACT were...DEAD WRONG!!! They were following a Skrull!! (...kind of like Liberals who think they support national defense...but I digress...) It would also mean that the REAL CAP could return...not the left-wing wussy that's been masquearding as CAP for the last few years. HOWEVER...I'm not that optimistic. The more likely scenario (given MARVEL's proclivities) is that Stark is the Skrull... ...but then...the real CAP would be really dead...which, of course, can't happen. So perhaps...the Skrull-Cap's strategy was a rational response to Stark...in essence, he knew Stark was "onto him", so he acted accordingly. ...my head is spinning...

I'm looking forward to Castle's less-than-subtle methods against guys like the Red Skull, etc. Should be fun (and IMO, a welcome change from the completely neutered Steve Rogers...R.I.P)..at least until Marvel bring shim back...next year...

Cap was not a traitor, but he was on the WRONG side. Vigilante justice (in the real world) is illegal. You simply don't have the right to take the law into your own hands. Super-powered being (if they actually existed) should never have the right to operate with immunity. They would have to be held responsible for any damages that might occur while they were fighting "bad guys". They don't have "the right" to do "superhero stuff". RIGHTS are what is specifically outlined in the Constitution. Everything else is a privilige. Frankly, the very idea that their "rights" are being violated by the Registration Act is so utterly dumb, I'm shocked that so many comics fans took it seriously (and even tried to make silly, sophomoric anaolgies to the Patriot Act...). Actually, scratch that...I'm not surprised at all... STARK for President!!!

Anything less than 100% on one outlook IS... That's funny, 'cause last time I checked, >50% was a majority, so >60% is a definite majority...meaning that MOST Americans don't want to see another Vietnam-style, cowardly cut-n-run by the Democrats.

I agree and disagree. Frankly, I think Cap is a lot more interseting specifically when he's portrayed as the fish-out-of-water that he is. And remember, he's not an "Eisenhower" guy...Eisenhower was only an Army General when Cap first disappeared. Cap is a Roosevelt kind of guy, a depression-era kid who wanted nothing more than to serve hios country. Despite all of his other faults, Roosevelt believed in kicking the enemy's a**, and kicking it hard...and that's Cap. And he would be shocked and saddened at how soft and decadent we've become since 1944... I dont know if you've noticed, but this country was establish more times than once. Many cultures had been ostricized and came to this country to start over. But thats not even what I was talking about at first. I was talking about the colonists, who came here because they were POOR or faced religious persecution (DISENFRANCHISED). I know you dont believe the colonists were wealthy, because there is substantial evidence citing that they arent. Secondly, im familiar with the founding fathers. I know they had professions held high in society. I also know that their belief in republicanism was not in agreeance with the social heirarchy of England, as they didnt have suffrage, therefore they were disenfranchised, because that can also mean "lacking the ability to vote". Secondly, characters dont have to remain static for generations. If that were true they would still think only homosexuals had AIDS and women shouldnt wear pants. But I never said I even agree with the way Marvel writes him, I just said I feel his character would lean more towards one side. That in no way justifys the actions he commits. Mark Millar is morally ambiguas, as are all the characters he writes. And he puts just as much "politics" into his books as others writers, perhaps more. Oh and he has the uncanny ability to make everyone he writes seem like a dick. Because thats all he did in the Ultimates, he made Cap so over the top right-wing that he comes off as a pretentious dick. Lastly, the reason I mentioned at the end that he was a fake character wasnt because I felt it didnt matter, it was because I didnt want someone thinking I wanted him to be a certain way or that I felt a certain way, mostly to avoid this sort of situation, but it seems that ship has sailed... Much of comics is "midless drivel"...but at least it used to be fun, escapist drivel. Now they're so drenched with pretentiousness and self-importance (written mostly by political neophytes) that it makes me cringe. But hey...if you like it, whatever...

America (the US of...) was not founded by "the poor and disenfranchised". Sure, there was an estrangement from Great Britain and a desire for independance, but the men who drafted the Declaration of Independence and wrote the Constitution were NOT "poor and disenfranchised." Most of them were highly educated men (Doctors, Lawyers, educators), and many were of the landed gentry class, and were wealthy gentleman farmers. By and large, that makes them more heroic because unlike the "poor and disenfranchised", they had a lot to lose in the war for independance, and many of them suffered greatly because of it. Great social revolutions are simply not led by "the poor", despite the mythology often associated with these movements, be it America, France, Russia, etc. Secondly, Captain America is far from "right wing", although if the character was written as true to his roots, he would be much closer to a conservative Republican than to today's Democrats. Captain America is parrt of "the greatest generation" that endured the great depression and fought in World War II. These people were about duty, honor, and country. Self-doubt, whining and constant kvetching are simply not characteristics associated with them (although they fit their children, the 60's generation, to a "T"). However, the character has rarely been written true-to-form. In the 1970's, Marvel had Cap all distraught over Watergate - so distraught, in fact, he resigned! Absurd! Now they show Cap expressing all kinds of angst about the war on terrorism (no doubt an expresion of the left-wing views that dominate much of Marvel's writing and editorial staffs) - also absurd, as if a guy who endured the horrors of WW II would be wringing his hands about Guantanamo Bay, Abu-Ghraib, and surveillance programs. And the latest absurdity, CIVIL WAR, has Captain America on the wrong side. As a stalwart of the Greatest Generation, a generation that trusted the Government (they sent FDR back to Washington for 4 terms), he would have supported the pro-registration side, not fought against it. Strangely enough, the only writer at Marvel who actually "gets" the character of Captian America is Scotsman and self-proclaimed leftist Mark Millar. His version of Cap in the ULTMATES is true-to-form. Meanwhile, the American writers are busy turning him into a thinner, better-built version of Michael Moore. What a joke. OK...he's a fake character. But it matters. And it's the kind of thing that drove me to stop reading Marvel comics. From a pure marketing standpoint, comics should stay out of politics, because no matter what your inclinations are, you risk alienating half of your audience. And that's just bad business.

He's not dead. Not even Marvel could be this stupid. Faking his death gives Steve Rogers a chance to bury the past, both literally and figuratively, after the debacle of Civil War. Then, he makes a come-back as someone else but still wearing Cap's outfit. Don't be surprised if they resurrect "Nomad" or some other nonsense in the interim. Actually, I take it back. Marvel COULD be this stupid. If they actually did something that dumb, who would become the new Cap? My gut tells me it wouldn't be John Walker. Maybe a politically correct choice, like the new Patriot from Young Avengers? Bucky?? Hmmmmm.......
