Over one million dollars worth of original comic book artwork was stolen from the home of writer and historian Mark Evanier. Evanier reported that the theft was carried out by someone he "trusted a lot” and that they were possibly working with others. The stolen collection includes irreplaceable pieces that were personal gifts from legendary artists who have since passed away.

The missing art includes rare original pages and covers by legends such as Jack Kirby, Sergio Aragonés, and Dave Stevens. While initial reports cite a value of over $1 million, some collectors estimate the collection's market value could be as high as $6–$8 million due to the pieces' impeccable provenance.

Evanier has compiled a four-page PDF list of the stolen items to help collectors and dealers identify them. Some pieces have reportedly already begun appearing on the collectors' market. Collectors and fans are urged to check the official list of missing pieces on Evanier's blog, News From ME, and report any suspicious listings to help recover the artwork.

This thief played the long game. Worst fear as a collector unlocked. I'm supposing the perpetrator is outside the country because charges would have been filed by now, otherwise having the chase down the items auction by auction is a terrible way to go.

It's unbelievable. Braking the connections, eroding trust is one of the most brutal things to do. It's not just the actual valuable items, which is also sad, but the trust itself is gone, maybe forever.
