The Game of Thrones franchise may soon make its debut on the big screen. Warner Bros. has announced the development of a feature film set in George R.R. Martin’s fantasy universe, with Beau Willimon (Andor, House of Cards) writing the screenplay centering on King Aegon I Targaryen’s conquest of Westeros. It’s being planned as an expansive, Dune-scale project.

Currently, Warner Bros.' strategic direction remains uncertain amid its anticipated sale to Paramount Skydance. However, Paramount CEO David Ellison recently named Game of Thrones as his favorite HBO series. Obviously, that bodes well for any potential films and TV projects.

I strongly suspect that many expensive Warner projects with uncertain prospects (Harry Potter, the DC reboot, etc.) will be given a very hard going over by Paramount given how much they paid for the studio.
