This week, LEGO announced its latest technological breakthrough: a new "Smart Brick" designed to add lights and sounds when you play with your LEGO sets, which also includes a feature to prevent one of the most painful experiences known toman: stepping on a LEGO. ToyFarce investigated...

The Smart Brick, which unlocks the innovative "Smart Play" system, is reportedly packed with technology and can sense motion, position and distance, making your Lego sets respond in various, fun ways when you play with them. Remember the Star Wars Episode 1 figures with the Commtech chips from Hasbro, or the Jakks Pacific WWE Titantron figures? Well, it's basically that, but 25 years later and with Lego bricks!

The Smart Brick will also reportedly feature proximity sensors that detect an incoming foot and immediately trigger a loud alarm to warn the user just seconds before disaster strikes. The system is said to adjust automatically, switching from a polite beep to a full emergency siren, louder than a car alarm, when bare feet are detected.

"We've studied this problem for decades" explained a LEGO spokesperson. "The data is... upsetting."

The Smart Brick will also connect to an app, sending alerts like "Danger detected: foot approaching" and "You almost learned a painful lesson". A future update may include a feature that identifies which child left the brick on the floor in the first place.

While some fans worry the Smart Brick removes a key part of the LEGO experience, LEGO reassured collectors that the alarm can be disabled for those who prefer the traditional, highly painful method. At press time, LEGO confirmed the Smart Brick will still somehow end up exactly where your foot lands in the dark.

More news at 11:00... "The same technology is currently being studied by the furniture market to detect wandering toes."

Oh wondering all the "other" fun ways this chip might work haha!

The story reminds me of an old joke:
A guy walks to his friend on the golf course with his new grail item:
- Hey, check this out! It's an awesome golf ball.
- Is it different from the others in any way?
- Sure, look! It glows in the dark, so you can easily spot it afar. It has a built-in signal, so you can check it in a huge radius. It beeps when you come closer and vibrates so it's impossible to miss it.
- Whoa, that's cool. Where did you buy it?
- Nah, I just found it here yesterday.

This was supposed to come out years ago but they found out it was too smart and started to cycle into epilepsy-inducing light flickers once there was someone nearby about to purchase extravagant Lego purchases.
