Neal H. Moritz, the producer behind the hit Sonic the Hedgehog franchise, is in talks to produce a live-action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film for Paramount Pictures. According to an exclusive report from The Hollywood Reporter, Moritz, who also produced The Fast and the Furious films, is in negotiations to take on the job of restarting TMNT as a live-action tent pole for the studio.

This news follows the Skydance-owned studios recent announcement of its plan to reboot Star Trek. And as opposed to some properties, like G.I. Joe and Transformers, Paramount fully owns the TMNT brand, having acquired it from co-creator Peter Laird in 2009. So it would make sense for the studio to look into the IP’s live-action, box-office potential.

The last live-action TMNT film was Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows.
That film underperformed expectations and lead to a pivot to animation and 2023’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem. But Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, a spinoff animated TV series, was shut down in the middle of production earlier this fall. “This is not the vision the owners want,” was the reason given to those working on the show. Though a film sequel to Mutant Mayhem, being produced by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg and directed by Jeff Rowe, is still moving forward at this point, slated for a Sept. 17, 2027 release.

Additionally, The Last Ronin, a TMNT live-action/CG animation hybrid project that was in development, has been shelved, according to the report. That project was being developed as an R-rated feature, but the new studio heads did not want the initial live-action reboot to be an adult-skewing story as they are looking more at the “Sonic” model to appeal to an all-ages audience.

Something in the vein of the original movies would be nice, but I believe the choices will be heavily affected by the next installments in the works.

I just wish they would revisit the original movies, retcon the 3rd film out of existence and start after Secret of the Ooze, with the same tone (but more like the 1st please) and same looks for turtles and characters etc, that would be absolutely perfect and make me so happy! but you know that will never happen, it's gonna be some doo doo, they wanna be more "sonic" ...instantly I get shivers, so just some safe kiddie stuff, Really it's the grown ups who like Turtles, kids are probably like 30% of the fanbase at this point, so stop catering to them. We the adults are the majority share holders.

Hopefully it will be better than the Megan fox TMNT movies

Probably won't be, and by god I tried to pretend those never existed, why do they haunt me?
