It's Wednesday, and you know what that means: ToyFarce review!
This week, we're having a look at the S.H.Figuarts Dandadan figures of Momo and Okarun (Transformed) from Bandai/Tamashii Nations! Dandadan is an insane manga which recently became an insane anime. Everybody was hyped when Tamashii Nations announced S.H.Figuarts figures of the anime, and well... here they are?

How can one summarize Dandadan? It follows Momo Ayase, a high school girl who believes in the supernatural and ghosts, but not aliens, while another student, Ken Takakura aka 'Okarun' believes in aliens, but not in ghosts. In a bet to determine who is correct, they decide to separately visit locations associated with both the extraterrestrial and the occult, and Momo gets abducted by a group of aliens, while Okarun gets possessed and cursed by a spirit... and that's just the first episode! If you are into wacky insane stories with incredible animation (Science Saru studio), do check it out!

Momo's figure looks amazing, but sadly does not move great. She comes with 5 different face plates and 6 pairs of hands. A bit short on accessories, she could have come with a couple of effects. Her skirt hinders the articulations of the legs completely, and while the character gives a massive roundhouse kick to an ex-boyfriend within the first minute of the first episode, the figure cannot give a kick above the knee. Her pink sweater with all the cuts for articulations does not look awesome either and doesn't allow for a lot of movement. It is possible to 'mod' her with a soft goods sweater and skirt to make her move better, but out of the box, she could have been better. The facial expressions are great and spot on, as usual with the S.H.Figuarts line.

Did I mention she also has psychic powers?

Okarun (Transformed) is the possessed/cursed version of Okarun, and the figure looks pretty great too, but also leaves a lot to be desired. It comes with 5 face plates, his glasses, 5 pairs of hands + an extra 'readjusting glasses' hand, along with 2 face masks (a full one, and a half one). The execution of the system to attach the mask is pretty weak, you have to remove a little patch of hair that hides a peg on one side, and the mask is then supposed to hold in position being held only from that side. The glasses are also rather fragile so changing faceplates when you have the mask + the glasses + the little bangs that need to be removed to change the face plates can be daunting. It looks pretty good once you have settled with one expression, though. He could have had a stand or extra 'running' effect parts, since running is his thing. Or even a mini Turbo Granny cat figure? Or his 'family jewels' (they've been stolen, it's another story...)?

The next figures in the S.H.Figuarts Dandadan line are Momo's grandmother Seiko and the normal version of Okarun, which comes with a great ab crunch that gives him bad posture. Finally, a figure we can relate to!
