JoyToy.jpgIt's Wednesday and you know what that means: ToyFarce review!

This week, we're having a look at the first and third waves of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 1/18th scale figures from Joy Toy! The first wave includes the 4 turtles, and the third wave has Shredder and 2 Foot Clan Soldiers. It may seem like Joy Toy leapfrogged the second wave and went straight to third, but there seems to be a logistics issue, where a lot of retailers have gotten the third wave before the second one, so here we are! I do not know when the second wave will show up, so I thought I'd go with wave 1 and 3 for now.

First impression, those figures are tiny, but have so much details! They're 1/18th scale, a bit over 4" but the sculpting and paint are amazing. The figures do not represent any specific version, Joy Toy gave them their own spin and they look pretty awesome. The packaging of those figures, a tiny square box, is really nice.

The first wave includes the 4 turtles, Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael and Michelangelo. They all come with 4 pairs of hands, their respective weapons, their respective weapons with effects, a pizza slice, their turtle communicators, a skateboard, a stand, and a diorama base (a sewer cover divided in 4). Only Donatello has something extra: a carrying bag and a wrench. The figures look super fun and have so much personality, Michelangelo having an iPod, Raphael with metal spikes on his shell,... The effects are great for all of them. Joy Toy really knocked it out of the park with this wave. My only nitpick is that they all have the same skin color, which bothers me a little, being used to have 4 shades of green for the brothers.

The third wave includes Shredder and 2 Foot Clan soldiers (A and B). Shredder looks great, and comes with 3 pairs of hands, 2 katanas, 2 katana handles (to attach to his sheaths, clever!), 2... other weapons (couldn't find on google lens) and 2 shurikens. Foot Soldier A comes with firearms (a laser gun, a rifle, some sort of sonic weapon,... and a plunger?) while Foot Soldier B comes with blunt weapons (a sword, a katana, a trident,...), and they both come with 5 hands, a communicator, a stand, and a diorama base. The Shredder figure is really fun to handle, even though he's a bit spikey. The katana handles tend to fall off whenever you move his chest around, but that's not a deal breaker. The Foot soldiers, however, are a bit more flimsy. The hands do not change easily (I can't seem to change the hands in a lasting way, they don't stick), and their belts are a bit loose and move around all the time. Good thing they're just there to get their butts kicked!

The second wave with Bebop and Rocksteady should be there in a few weeks, while there are also 2 other waves already announced: Wave 4 with April O'Neil and Splinter, and wave 5 with Krang, Slash and Tokka which was just announced today.

Joy Toy did a great job. The weapons for the Foot soidliers might look a bit bigger than it should be, but otherwise, cool concepts and designs so far. Great review, and pretty amazing pics there!
