Mattel is taking steps to rectify a typographical error found on their Wicked figures, inspired by the upcoming film set to release on November 22nd. The packaging for the toys, featuring characters such as Elphaba and Fiyero, includes a web address intended to guide consumers to the film's official site, WickedMovie.com. Unfortunately, the packaging mistakenly displays a different link that leads users to a site requiring age verification for those 18 and older. This incorrect link directs to Wicked Pictures, an independent adult film company established in 1993.

Mattel has issued a statement regarding the matter.

Quote

“Mattel was made aware of a misprint on the packaging of the Mattel Wicked collection dolls, primarily sold in the U.S., which intended to direct consumers to the official WickedMovie.com landing page,” the company said in a statement to outlets. “We deeply regret this unfortunate error and are taking immediate action to remedy this. Parents are advised that the misprinted, incorrect website is not appropriate for children. Consumers who already have the product are advised to discard the product packaging or obscure the link and may contact Mattel Customer Service for further information.”

Wicked, directed by Jon M. Chu, presents a reinterpretation of The Wizard of Oz, focusing on the narrative through the perspective of the Wicked Witch of the West. The story explores the relationship between Elphaba and Glinda the Good Witch before their fateful paths diverge.

I've heard of this but wasn't sure it was real. Someone at Mattel really messed up. A part of me does wonder if this was not a mistake but intentionally done by a rouge employee 🤔

Either way I'd imagine the first run of these figures will fetch a good sum on the aftermarket.

I read elsewhere that Mattel screwed up on Jonathan Bailey’s character where the guy has brown eyes and the figure's eyes are blue.  The problem is there are so many different types of Mattel 'Wicked' figures that you don't know which box/figure has the typos.

Initially, at a glance,  I thought this was kind of funny because my collector brain didn’t connect the dots that this is a toy line for kids. I was thinking about it from the perspective of an adult collector going to the link and finding an unpleasant surprise there. Not ok, but likely wouldn’t be terribly traumatizing.

But then I remembered that these toys are being bought and produced for children- for a Disney film, no less. That means young kids, probably mostly young girls, were/are inadvertently being exposed to pornography- and that isn’t ok in the slightest. I typically hate to wish this kind of thing on people, but I hope the person who screwed up gets fired for this. Children have it bad enough being exposed to crap at an early age as it is without their toys promoting it.

I am sorry  I think this is funny as hell and I expect  that initial  assortment  will probably  be pulled from the shelves  or something.

Yes I had heard about this, my initial reaction was no this is not funny in the least, and that is a terrible blunder on so many peoples parts, how that typo made it ultimately onto boxes is baffling, the amount of people looking over and reviewing product before it makes it to shelves is a plenty and to have this happen in the end is actually just negligence, no way is this okay, on many levels. I then found it somewhat amusing from an adult perspective that how can such idiots work for a multimillionaire dollar toy company and end up green lighting this typo, but still not really funny, it's really a shame, and I feel for the poor kids who accidentally subjected themselves to potentially harmful media at their young age.

A lot of people should have been let go for this.

If that is indeed true, then that should be a testament to the fact that we cannot currently be relying on AI to make decisions, and that Humans are still valuable, and if this is fact yes fire Skynet. Hard Pause.

Wow, they can easily be sued by that and not even win the case...💡

I was just at Walmart and there was an endcap with the toys on it that still have the bad link on them.

If I get one, I will ask to management at that store if they are checking what they put on their  shelves...😎💡☕👍

These are being recalled, but some stores are faster than others.

Why? You can't expect employees at a Wal-Mart or Target to read every single word on the packaging of every product. That's the manufacturer's job. You wanna question somebody about this, contact Mattel.
