Diamond Select Toys The Walking Dead Wave 1 - Rick Grimes and Michonne Review and Images

It's Wednesday and you know what that means... ToyFarce review!

This week, we're having a look at the Walking Dead figures from Diamond Select Toys! The first wave includes Rick Grimes and Michonne. It had been a while since the last McFarlane Toys figures from the Walking Dead, especially comic book ones, so I'm glad we're getting some new figures. Diamond Select Toys went with the comic book look, in black and white to reflect the way it looked in the comic book, and I was pretty psyched about them.

Previously, on the Walking Dead... In case you've been living under a rock since the early 2000's, The Walking Dead is an immensely popular American post-apocalyptic comic book series by Robert Kirkman, Tony Moore and Charlie Adlard that started in 2003 and ended in 2019. It was adapted in 2010 as a highly successful TV series, which led to a plethora of spin off shows and all sorts of content (the Telltale video games were really good!). It tells the story of a group of survivors during a zombie apocalypse.

Rick Grimes, the main protagonist, is a very nice, highly detailed figure. The head sculpts look like they were taken right out of the pages of the comic book. Rick comes with 2 head sculpts, 3 pairs of hands, a colt python, a hatchet, an assault rifle, a shotgun and a duffel bag to carry the weapons. The articulations are very minimal (single elbows and knees,...), in usual Diamond Select fashion, but those figures make up for it with the sculpt and details, and can still be posed nicely. Rick was designed by Eamon O'Donoghue and sculpted by May Thamtarana.

Michonne is another great looking figure. She comes with 3 pairs of hands, her katana and sheath, a shoulder bag and an assault rifle. Only one head sculpt for her, sadly. Just like Rick, she has great details in the sculpt. My only nitpick is that there are no hands to properly hold the katana, the 'grabbing hands' are a bit too open and the katana. I might have to heat them up and try to tighten them a bit. Michonne was designed by Eamon O'Donoghue and sculpted by Paul Harding.
