Having failed to defeat Aquaman the first time, Black Manta, still driven by the need to avenge his father’s death, will stop at nothing to take Aquaman down once and for all. This time Black Manta is more formidable than ever before, wielding the power of the mythic Black Trident, which unleashes an ancient and malevolent force. To defeat him, Aquaman will turn to his imprisoned brother Orm, the former King of Atlantis, to forge an unlikely alliance. Together, they must set aside their differences to protect their kingdom and save Aquaman’s family, and the world, from irreversible destruction.

All returning to the roles they originated, Jason Momoa plays Arthur Curry/Aquaman, now balancing his duties as both the King of Atlantis and a new father; Patrick Wilson is Orm, Aquaman’s half-brother and his nemesis, who must now step into a new role as his brother’s reluctant ally; Amber Heard is Mera, Atlantis’ Queen and mother of the heir to the throne; Yahya Abdul-Mateen II is Black Manta, committed more than ever to avenge his father’s death by destroying Aquaman, his family and Atlantis; and Nicole Kidman as Atlanna, a fierce leader and mother with the heart of a warrior. Also reprising their roles are Dolph Lundgren as King Nereus and Randall Park as Dr. Stephen Shin.

Directed by Wan, “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” is produced by Peter Safran, Wan, and Rob Cowan. The executive producers are Galen Vaisman and Walter Hamada.

The screenplay is by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick, from a story by James Wan & David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick and Jason Momoa & Thomas Pa’a Sibbett, based on characters from DC, Aquaman created by Paul Norris and Mort Weisinger.

Joining Wan behind the camera is his sterling team of “Aquaman” artisans: director of photography Don Burgess (“The Conjuring 2”), production designer Bill Brzeski (“Jumanji: The Next Level”), editor Kirk Morri (“Furious 7”), composer Rupert Gregson-Williams (“Wonder Woman”) and music supervisor is Michelle Silverman (“Malignant”). Visual effects supervisor Nick Davis (“The Clash of the Titans” films, “The Dark Knight”) and costume designer Richard Sale (“Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,” “Ready Player One”) also join.

Pictures Presents An Atomic Monster / A Peter Safran Production of A James Wan Film, “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom,” set to open in theaters internationally beginning 20 December 2023 and in North America on December 20, 2023; it will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Loving that seahorse.  This is the one part of the dcu I most wish they wouldn't reboot.

Same. Aquaman was my favorite DCEU movie and Mamoa fits the role so well

Entertainment Weekly interviewed Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom director James Wan in response to actress Amber and her allegations that her role in the movie was "paired down."

Quote

“I always pitched this to everyone from the get-go. The first Aquaman was Arthur (Jason Mamoa) and Mera’s (Heard) journey. The second movie was always going to be Arthur and Orm (Patrick Wilson)."  “So, the first was a romance action-adventure movie, the second one is a bromance action-adventure movie. We’ll leave it at that.”

Heard complained during her testimony in the trial between her and ex-husband Johnny Depp, saying

Quote

“I was given a script and then given new versions of the script that had taken away scenes that had action in it, that depicted my character and another character — without giving any spoilers away — two characters fighting with one another, and they basically took a bunch out of my role. They just removed a bunch out.”

Amber Heard's agent came to her defense during the trial and testified that her role was reduced because of

Quote

“the lack of chemistry between her and Jason.”

The director was also asked about the possible cameos from Batman actors Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck and if there was any truth to this matter.

Quote

"The tricky thing early on was not knowing whether Aquaman would come out first or come out after [The Flash]. So, we just had to be prepared. At the end of the day, the best thing I would say about this movie is that it is not connected in any way to any of those films. That's the bottom line."

When asked if the character of Batman would show up in the sequel, Wan replied

Quote

"That's a 'no comment,' right now ... You're going to have to wait for the movie to come out."

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is scheduled for a theater release on December 20, 2023.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, starring Jason Momoa as the eponymous DC hero, is set to be released exclusively in theaters later this year. With James Gunn and Peter Safran now serving as co-CEOs of DC Studios, this highly anticipated sequel is expected to mark the end of the Snyderverse era. While some actors will continue portraying their characters in the DC Universe, there is speculation among fans that this may be Momoa's final portrayal of Aquaman. This week, DC's official Instagram account provided a glimpse into the new Aquaman film through a comic tie-in, showcasing Momoa in his iconic role.

"Prepare for the theatrical release of AQUAMAN AND THE LOST KINGDOM on December 20th with the comic book prequel to the upcoming film! The photo cover features Jason Momoa, and there will also be a variant cover by @belen_ortega and @arifprianto.arf, available on October 31st," DC announced. The post can be viewed below:

According to Variety, the highly anticipated sequel from DC Studios has been postponed from December 20th to December 22nd, 2023. This decision has resulted in Aquaman being further distanced from Wonka, allowing Warner Bros. to create a more significant gap between their two major holiday season releases.

I will watch this, the first one was pretty fun, but I keep forgetting this is coming out, until I see things like this, it just seems so sad that this has no stakes, since they are wiping the slate after this and the DC Cinematic Universe as it was is dead, so this movie almost seems pointless, but I like watching movies, and like seeing good fun so hopefully this doesn't disappoint, but I'm ready to just cleanse my soul of this DC Universe and move on.
