New McFarlane Toys 66 Batman Figures Including Batgirl

Recommended Posts

Shown below is a look at three new 66 Batman 6" figures from McFarlane Toys that have started to show up overseas in Hong Kong. The three figures include Batgirl as well as Scuba versions of Batman and Robin. This line in the US started out as a Target exclusive but we have started to see other etailers carrying them. It's not yet known when these will see release here in the US or which stores will be carrying them.

I know that Batgirl was a big want for a lot of people from this line, so I'm happy to see that she's getting done - but these are a pass from me. I'm still hoping for more villains. Bookworm is probably my #1 want right now. Egghead and King Tut have been my favorite figures so far. I've passed on all of the other figures besides those 2, but did pick up the Bat Cave, Wayne Manor, Batcycle and Bat Boat. I have the Batmobile on pre-order. I chose to pass on the Villain's Lair also.

I know she signed a rights deal for her likeness shortly before she passed. That's how Figures Toy Company was able the make their retro figure of her. Idk if it also applies to McFarlane toys now.

A while ago, Todd said he couldn't do Batgirl in the line due to a dispute over her estate.  Not sure if it was settled but I'm guessing they're doing the comic version to work around it.

Sure seems that way, considering that it says "Batman '66" (the official title of the comic) and not "Batman Classic TV Series" like the other figures.

Shown below via sb_toyz are in-hand images for the newest wave of 6" DC Retro Classic Batman TV Series figures from McFarlane Toys. This wave includes Batgirl along with new versions of Batman and Robin with oxygen masks on. One of the things to note about ths wave is that McFarlane seems to be including more accessories with this figure like batarangs, bat-cuffs and Batzooka.

While this wave started out as one exclusive to Target stores, it looks as if other etailers like our sponsors BigBadToyStore.com and Entertainment Earth are now carrying them as well.

Apparently, a past reliable online source has leaked the figures in the upcoming Wave 8 which will include: Batman & Robin from the TV show, plus Joker, Superman, & a minor villain named Lord Death Man all sourced from the Batman '66 comic books. Personally, I am disappointed that the line has taken a turn away from the TV show's villains & supporting characters. I had hoped Mad Hatter, Bookworm, Clock King, Siren, Shame, Black Widow, False Face, Louie the Lilac, and other villains were going to be produced, including Alfred, Bruce & Dick in regular clothing. I'm hopeful that Todd will return to the TV show as its primary source for figures after Wave 8.

Yeah, what happened the second  Riddle version with mustache painted? That's the same actor of of the Addams Family , John Astin💡👍

I thought there might be a John Astin Riddler & Eli Wallach Mr. Freeze, since they can just be head swaps like they did with Julie Newmar and Eartha Kitt's Catwoman figure. The Oxygen-Mask Batman & Robin are just head swaps too. I suspect we might see more B&W figures as well if the line continues.

I still find this really funny (but not unsurprising), since Eartha Kitt was more than half a foot shorter than Julie Newmar.

McFarland doesn't pay attention into scale for their figures like Super 7 does..💡

It seems like Todd McFarlane toys are basically making smaller scales of the figure toy company Batman, 1966 8 inch figures. Well, I was disappointed that Mattel discontinued their line a few years back. I am very pleased with what I see with McFarlane and his vision.  I realize that he’s getting a lot of pushback and some not so good reviews, but I’m looking at it from a standpoint where I basically grew up with Adam West, as Batman, so to see the toy line after so many years of the iconic and can’t be television show, I am overjoyed, in addition, we get a background figure which doesn’t necessarily have to be the likeness of the late great Yvonne Craig, but she fits the bill and the collection nicely. I really would like to see a playset with Barbara Gordon’s bedroom and batgirl changing room. hopefully will also see some other variance, such as the cat woman, action figures, unmasked, and perhaps figures of the altar. Egos: Bruce Wayne, Dick Grayson and Barbara Gordon

We showed you some in-hand images of this one the other day, but now McFarlane Toys has released an official preview image for their upcoming Batman 66' Comic Batgirl figure which will be released soon. Note this is technically based on the more recent 66 Batman comic series from DC and not the actress from the actual TV show which is likely due to likeness rights red tape. McFarlane used the #Target with this image so this may only be available at Target stores at lease for now.

The 1966 is one of McFarlane's strongest lines. When it was first announced, those initial images were complete trash and I said it was DOA, but when they were finally in hand, it was clear that those initial promo images were of early prototypes. The likenesses were 100 better and the paint jobs were nice and matte and the figures themselves were nice. The line has gotten even better over time, and so far all of this variants are legit variations of the characters that appeared in the show or comic or the two animated movies at some point. That new King Tut fig is figure of the year material. I think after the rebreather/Batgirl wave he'll likely put out his first reissues given it's been a while since Batman and Robin vanilla versions have been released, so new to the line collectors need to be able to get those without having to go to eBay.

If McFarlane is reading this then we need a Bruce Wayne and Dick Grayson. You've already got the heads, so give us that man in suit Bruce and that sweater wearing Dick. We need an Alfred, too since you've already given us that variant of the man. Mattel did a '66 Alfred already, so you can't let them embarrass you like that. Throw in Gordon, Aunt Harriet, and Chief O'Hara. We also need Barbara Gordon whether you have Craig's likeness rights or not. Give us the 2nd and 3rd versions of Mr. Freeze and the Lee Meriweather Catwoman. Two of those you already have the bodies, so just do Lee's head and the other head for Freeze for the current body. Freeze #3 is basically an astronaut but you're kind of already there with the new Page Puncher Mr. Freeze. I know it's a completely different suit, but it's the same in spirit. Just do a 6" version patterned after the show. Funko did a Book Worm, so you need a Book Worm. Mad Hatter is a known villain, so we need that guy. Also, we need the suit and tie and derby wearing Riddler to go with the 10,000 other Riddlers you've already made. After you do that then give us the John Astin Riddler given it's just the current tights version of Riddler with Astin's mustache on top. Easy variants/money. Give us that damn Batcopter you know you're already making. You've done all the vehicles except that one, so get it done. It must come with a rope ladder that attaches to the bottom of it and a rubbery looking shark and Shark Repellant Bat Spray to round out the vehicle.

And, of course, we need a Batusi Batman. Mattel did that one, too so you once again can't let it all end in embarrassment. Get to it. Give us al the other villains, too. There are tons of them. Go deep.

It’s a reduced price line making use of preexisting parts, which is something every line does.  I don’t see what difference it makes.

I believe that everyone is forgetting that these action figures are categorized as 6 inch action figures.  They are toys for Pete sake.  So let us just humor the thought for just one second and say that McFarlane toys did make some of these action figures in the toy line perpetually height correct:  would anyone complain why the price of a 4” action figure is the same as a 6” one?  In the toy world, I think we can all overlook the height factor and just be humbled at the fact that such an iconic classic was resurrected into a toy line after 57 years of it original television debut.

I understand your point of view and a good example with the ARAH GI Joe line... But the are some anal collectors that will beat you for that statement... I personally like how TMNT from Neca is making the characters like the cartoon in scale and the same for Super 7 with their Ultimate line... Just look at that MASSIVE Monstarr figure or even Mumm-Ra😀👍💡

I’m 54 years old and have collected toys and comics for over 30 years and since the mid 80s so u can imagine how extensive my collection is so, I definitely get it.  I grew up on Batman 66 reruns in the early 70s as a kid and personally, I appreciate the actual line vs not having a line exist at all.  Many have read about Todd McFarlane but I was fortunate to actually meet home during a signing when he was with Marvel Comics and how he literally revamped The Amazing Spider-Man comics.  I might be dating myself but having that kind of history is priceless!  I agree with a lot of the ideas and remain hopeful that this line will continue with even more characters and play sets.  Having more variant characters and maybe a few alter ego figures would be cool.  I’d totally flip out if a Barbara Gordon Changing Room Play Set and a Batgirl Cycle were ever to come out.  I’d also love to see a Commissioner Gordon play set as well.
