ToyFarce News: What If Social Media Existed Back Then?

Past.jpgDid you ever wonder how today's toy community would have done in the past? Well, ToyFarce was wondering the same! These days, it is not uncommon to see a lot of 'action figure politics' (aka drama, thanks @ShartimusPrime!). Would the classic toys from the past have been successful in this day and age? ToyFarce sent a few collectors in the past, with their mobile phones and internet, to see what type of comments we would have seen. (Don't ask about the science part, we don't really get it either...)

Star Wars Early Bird Certificate Package (1977)

StarWarsCollector1961: 'Early Bird'? More like 'Early Turd'! Kenner really thought they could give us a piece of cardboard instead of our action figures, and now we're supposed to wait? Where are my toys, Kenner?! I WANT MY MONEY BACK!

G.I.Joe turns 3.75" (1982)

YoJoeNumber1Collector: G.I.Joes are supposed to be 12", and not 3.75"! This will never work! Nobody wants those tiny action figures! What is Hasbro doing? They don't even have soft goods like the real 12" line G.I.Joes do! #NotMyGIJoe

WWF Hasbro figures (1990)

LJNfan1000: Hasbro getting the WWF license is the worst thing that has ever happened! The LJN figures were so much better! Those Hasbro ones have wrong proportions, too much articulations, and look like children's toys! Give us our big non-articulated rubber figures back!

Star Wars: The Power of the Force (1995)

DarthCollector4ever: Is Kenner out of their GODD$#*N mind? We waited for so long for THIS? Jacked up figures with terrible likeness? Congrats on your new peg warmers, Kenner! Those figures are never gonna sell! They are successfully KILLING the Star Wars toy line! smh

What other toys, brands or events from the past would give us great comments? Let us know... in the comments!

More news at 11:00... Well, that was interesting. Let's never do that again!

*ToyFarce News is parody news for laughs and not meant to be taken seriously!

My Luke Skywalker figure has a yellow lightsaber....did anyone at Kenner even watch the movie?!

Also I have to admit, what was written about the WWF figures was almost verbatim what ran through my head when I first saw the Hasbro figures at TRU lol.

That's true about POTF2 (Power of the Force) action figures, for me at least. At the time it was all we had so most kids had some, but I didn't like them. I do remember speculators hoarding them and they were at every flea market for 5x retail even though they were never hard to find. Now that I think about it, the same thing around the same time happened with Beanie Babies. And also that period in comic books saw a great shift towards gimmicks designed to draw in speculators. I guess in part all of that was because of the economy booming people had money to blow and so they cranked out crap and gimmicks. Right now the economy is not so hot but IMO it's a second golden age for genuinely good creative toys. So maybe there's an inverse relationship there.

This thread on Rebelscum has a cool timeline about POTF2
