DC Co-Chairman James Gunn will be directing his own script for Superman: Legacy.  The project is part of the multi-platform connected DC universe – “Chapter One, Gods and Monsters."

Gunn announced that a new Superman movie will be made when he took the job at DC and Henry Cavill won't be returning as the Man of Steel.  The new Superman movie will be about the early days of Superman.

Superman Legacy tells the story of Superman’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas. He is the embodiment of truth, justice, and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.

Superman: Legacy is scheduled for theaters worldwide on July 11th, 2025.

Yea seems like when people were first critical of Gunn heading the whole dc universe the common answer was but he’s not like he is going to be directing the movies. Yea right he is exactly the kind of guy who hires himself.

I don't remember anybody saying he wasn't going to direct anything. The guy's a director. It would honestly be a really big shock if he wasn't going to direct a couple movies in the new DC Universe.

Sources from within have informed Deadline that James Gunn has started working through audition tapes for the main roles for his next project Superman: Legacy.  The whole process has Gunn watching every tape and will make a decision in months to come.

The director is looking for talent for the main roles of Clark Kent aka Superman, Lois Lane, and Lex Luthor.  This will be a lengthy process but the likes of Nicholas Hoult, David Corenswet, Jacon Elordi, and Alan Ritchson are among the actors for the Superman role.  As for the role of Lois Lane, Gunn has scene tapes from Emma Mackey, Rachel Brosnahan, and Samara Weaving, among others.

Gunn hasn't decided on the direction he wants for Lex Luthor.  While Gunn has been looking into names he has worked with in the past, sources say one role has simply marked "Apex," which could mean Apex Lex Luthor, who is not only a version of the villain that has the strength to fight Superman but also would hint at a potential multiverse situation as Apex Lex did have run-ins with other Luthors in various dimensions.

Out of the actors listed, David Corenswet probably has the most Clark Kent/Superman look to him, but that doesn't necessarily mean anything.
I didn't like The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel after the first season, but Rachel Brosnahan would be an absolutely perfect Lois Lane.

DC Co-Chairman and Director James Gunn have found his new Clark Kent and Lois Lane for his Superman: Legacy.

After viewing audition tapes and in-person screen tests for the past few months, Gunn has finally selected David Corenswet to play Superman, and Rachel Brosnahan to play Lois Lane.  The two were selected after they tested in front of both DC Co-Chairmen Peter Safran and Gunn in full costume and makeup for the parts.  Gunn will now look to fill the shoes of Superman’s arch-nemesis Lex Luthor as well as other supporting characters like Kent’s friend Jimmy Olsen.

James Gunn will be directing the Superman: Legacy project from a screenplay written by himself.  The project is being produced by Peter Safran from a character created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster.

Superman: Legacy has been set for a worldwide release on July 11, 2025.

I've never heard of either of these people and have never watched anything that either of them is in, but that certainly doesn't mean anything - it's just difficult for me to get at all excited about their casting. I enjoy most of what James Gunn has done, so he gets the benefit of the doubt from me. However we know that Warner Bros has no patience so if this movie doesn't instantly do better at the box office than any other DC movie in history (I think the first Aquaman is the high watermark right now followed by a couple of the Christian Bale Batman movies and the The Joaquin Phoenix Joker movie) then all of those "long term" plans will likely go out the window pretty fast and he'll be shown the door. WB has never been able to stick to any type of plan and I expect them to cut bait pretty quick if this movie isn't an instant tent-pole blockbuster hit.

I do like the idea of Nic Hoult as Luthor. That would be a very good casting, in my opinion. He did a great job as Beast in X-Men First Class. I really like Alan Ritchson and hope that Gunn can find a good role for him in his universe. I enjoyed his performances on Smallville and Titans.  I likely would have preferred either him or Hoult as Superman to Corenswet, but that's probably just because I'm more familiar with them. We'll see how it works out!

Alan is great in Reacher as well as the two you mentioned. Plus Blood Drive. Between him and the guy in the top hat it was the reason my family watched it. Great actor. Not sure what DC character I'd like to see him protray next

...PETER Gunn? I think there's at least one error with this report.

Thanks for pointing out my error.  Typing up the report and kept seeing Peter Safran and just went ahead with Peter Gunn thinking it looked right.

María Gabriela de Faría, the renowned Venezuelan actress recognized for her roles in Fox comedies Animal Control and The Moodys, will be joining the cast of James Gunn's highly anticipated movie, Superman: Legacy.

In this film, de Faría will portray the character Angela Spica, also known as The Engineer. As a member of the villain team in the Warner/DC production, Angela possesses extraordinary powers derived from nanotechnology integrated into her own body. The Engineer, created by Warren Ellis and Bryan Hitch, is the second DC character to bear this name and was initially introduced in The Authority vol.1 #1 in 1999.

Superman: Legacy serves as the inaugural title in a revamped lineup of DC films, marking James Gunn's directorial debut as co-head of DC Studios. The movie will delve into Superman's journey as he grapples with reconciling his Kryptonian heritage with his upbringing as a human. He embodies the values of truth, justice, and the American way, guided by the compassion and kindness that is often dismissed in today's world.

Joining de Faría in this ensemble cast are previously announced actors such as David Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner/Green Lantern, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, and Anthony Carrigan as Rex Mason/Metamorpho.

Despite the challenges posed by the recent WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, which have caused delays for numerous other projects, James Gunn has confirmed that Superman: Legacy will maintain its scheduled release date of July 11, 2025. Gunn, who also penned the script, draws inspiration from the iconic characters created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster. The film is produced by Peter Safran, co-boss of DC Studios.

So... The Authority are the villains?  Sounds like they might be adapting "What's so Funny about Truth, Justice and The American Way" but without the stand-ins.
