Disney Moving Forward With 'Tron 3' Starring Jared Leto

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Disney is finally going forward with Tron 3 and Jared Leto will star in the feature.

Joachim Ronning is in talks to direct from a script from Jesse Wigutow.  The feature, titled Tron: Ares, will follow 2010’s Tron: Legacy.

The original Tron was released in 1982 by Disney, with Jeff Bridges as video game designer Kevin Flynn, who is transported inside his own creation and teams up with Tron, a security program played by Bruce Boxleitner.  The second Tron movie, Tron: Legacy, was released in 2010, and starred Bridges, Garrett Hedlund, and Olivia Wilde  Disney went through years of development, and officially scrapped a third movie in 2015.

Deadline is reporting that Cameron Monaghan has signed on to join Jared Leto in Tron: Ares, the third film in the Tron sci-fi franchise from Disney.  The cast also includes Evan Peters, Jodie Turner-Smith, and Greta Lee.

Details as to Monaghan’s character are under wraps, though the film will follow Leto’s computer program Ares on a journey from the digital world to that of humans.

The project is being directed by Joachim Rønning from a script by Jesse Wigutow and Jack Thorne.  Emma Ludbrook, Jeffrey Springer, and Leto will produce, with Russell Allen serving as executive producer.
