Production Begins On Millennium Media's Comic Book Film 'Red Sonja' With Matilda Lutz, Wallis Day & Robert Sheehan

Production on Millennium Media’s upcoming comic book film Red Sonja has begun at the Bulgarian Nu Boyana Studio with M.J. Bassett directing and Matilda Lutz, Wallis Day, and Robert Sheehan leading the cast.

Hannah John Kamen had previously been set for the film’s lead role though she’s stepped aside due to scheduling conflicts, with Lutz now set to play the titular character. Day will portray her wicked half-sister Annisia, with Sheehan as Draygan.

The character has been described as a fearsome warrior boasting a high degree of skill with a sword.  Details of the plot of the movie haven't been disclosed but the movie is inspired by the sword and sorcery comic books of the same name by Dynamite Entertainment.  Red Sonja is based on the heroine created for Marvel Comics by Robert E. Howard and subsequently adapted by Roy Thomas.

The script has been written by Joey Soloway, and Tasha Huo, and will also star Michael Bisping, Martyn Ford, Eliza Matengu, Manal El-Feitury, and Katrina Durden.

How in the world would Hannah John Kamen make sense for the role of Red Sonja, unless they are deliberately stepping away from the look of the character that everyone associates with "Red Sonja"? I like her as an actress, etc., but her as this character "clicks" for me about as much as if they'd had Tom Hiddleston play Thor, instead of Loki.

did you read the post? Hannah has stepped aside and isn't Sonja anymore, Matilda Lutz is the new Red Sonja

Deadline is reporting that Oliver Trevena (Wire Room) is the latest addition to the cast of Millennium Media’s comic book film Red Sonja.
