Funko Buys Mondo

In the world of business the fastest way to grow is often a larger company buying out an up and coming smaller one which is what appears to be happening here.

Mondo today has officially announced that they have been purchased by Funko who is now their parent company. See the official statement below:

"For 20 years, we have poured our heart and souls into this weird little thing that Rob Jones and Tim League started in a closet in the corner of an Alamo Drafthouse lobby... then out of a closet underneath the seats of a Drafthouse auditorium (seriously). Eventually, we opened our own gallery space, and even started our own convention.

We have always loved following our passions and doing things our own way, and we’ll be forever thankful to the Alamo Drafthouse for supporting those passions and helping us grow into what we are today. But we needed a bigger boat... and that’s where Funko comes in. They understand what Mondo is today and are eager to help us become the company we want to be.

From the outside, Mondo might seem like it is changing... but on the inside much is staying the same. We remain the same team, and our goals remain unchanged. We are still the same bunch of weirdos who share an undying obsession with popular (and maybe less popular) culture, and a craving to make cool stuff with the best artists in the world.

We are still the same company that started in the theater lobby... only now with even more resources to support our vision. We can’t wait to show you what’s next."

According to an article by the website Thewrap.com, Funko which purchased Mondo back in June of last year has laid off most of the staff of Mondo.

As of now, the only two divisions of the company that remain are the toys and records divisions. But insiders tell TheWrap it’s unclear how long those divisions will remain as part of the Funko portfolio.

I have a friend who's done sculpt work for Mondo on their MOTU 1/6 line, and I've asked if he knows if the action figure/collectibles division has been affected at all (because there's been no mention of that this whole time). If he says anything besides "I don't know," I'll report that here.

Posters..who cares about the posters. What about all toy product they were producing/developing?

they are addressing the posters because that was the only department that seemed to be going away, at least what i've been reading was people upset that Mondo wasn't going to be making posters anymore, there were even artists, who worked for Mondo, on twitter saying their goodbyes to the company.
