HBO Max is developing a live-action comedy based on the DC superheroes The Wonder Twins and KJ Apa and Isabel May will play the alien-sibling lead roles.

Plot details are under wraps but Apa will play Zan, and May will portray Jayna.  Jayna is known for her talent of transforming into an animal, while Zan is a shapeshifter of sorts.

Zan and Jayna are from the planet Exxor are being informally trained by the DC superheroes. In a 1977 Super Friends comic book from E. Nelson Bridwell and artist Ramona Fradon, it’s further detailed that the twins were orphaned during a plague and adopted by the alien Exorians. Along the way, they’re given Gleek as a pet. After learning that villain Grax is set to destroy Earth, they travel there to warn the Justice League. They ultimately blend into life on Earth as Swedish exchange students, attending Gotham City High School. The Wonder Twins made cameos in other parts of the DC universe over the years, including TV shows Smallville, Teen Titans Go! and The Flash.

The project is being written and directed by Black Adam and Rampage co-writer Adam Sztykiel with Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey’s Temple Hill are producing.

Last month it was reported that Warner Bros. was working on a HBO Max movie featuring DC's Wonder Twins. Reports suggested that KJ Apa and Isabel May would play the alien-sibling lead roles. Now less than a month later it looks like the movie is no longer moving forward. According to ThatHashTagShow DC and Warner Bros-Discovery have decided to cancel it before production starts.

No specific reasons have given for the sudden change in plans other than there seems to be a fair amount of turmoil and uncertainty going on from the recent Warner Bros./Discovery merger.

Honestly I'm kinda disappointed about this. I know that people weren't too excited but if peacemaker can end up being a great series I was hoping that they could reinvent the wonder twins in a interesting way as well. The recent-ish comic run I actually enjoyed quite a bit. I'm kinda mad that a bunch of people on Twitter and such  may have helped hate it out of existence. I thought it could have been interesting

It just seems like Warner Bros. is in complete disarray and has no idea what they really want to do, and that was the case even before the merger. It just appears to be a terribly run organization and it never seems to get any better, no matter how many times they change leadership. Such a waste of so much great DC Comics intellectual property while Marvel keeps laughing all the way to the bank.
