Actress Leslie Grace who will be staring in the upcoming HBO Max Batgirl movie posted an image of herself in her new Batgirl costume on social media.

looks good . digging the old school vibe from it with the yellow cape . totally useless in a blending into the shadows kinda thing but looks good.

No, Reeves Bats is in his own world. Batgirl is tied to the main DC Universe post Flash movie with Keaton as Batman and J.K. Simmons as Gordon.

I actually wondered if this was for the CW at first.  I guess the budget isn’t being spent on costumes.

Definitely has some serious potential.   Not my favorite storylines but a good costume.

Like everyone is saying looks really CW to me, not sure if I'm digging it, but I guess we gotta see it in action it might be great. But right now I'm not a fan.

According to The New York Post, the Batgirl movie, which was expected to debut on HBO Max and star Actress Leslie Grace and feature Michael Keaton's return as Batman has been shelved by Warner Bros. despite the $70 and $100 million loss it will bring to the studio. The reason given was that it was deemed " irredeemable" by test screen audiences.

If this story turns out to be true, then this would be just another DC Universe Cinematic Blunder by Warner Bros. in what has become a long list of them.

Studio insiders insist the decision was not driven by the quality of the film or the commitment of the filmmakers, but by the desire for the studio’s slate of DC features to be at a blockbuster scale. “Batgirl” was budgeted to screen in homes on HBO Max, and not for a major global release in theaters.

The gist is that the new leadership at Warner Bros. Discovery wants movies made to pull in hundreds of millions of dollars in theaters and not to secure subscribers for HBO MAX.

idk for that big a company the money isnt an issue. theyre newest video game is in the beta stage and is one of the most played games out there right now. they can eat 90 mil rn to save rep and remake that money later. they also cancelled the wonder twins movie. the reasoning makes sense. why release a movie for basically free? batgirl is not gonna bring in any new subscriptions to the service, so everyone watching already subscribes. theyre clearly going away from the dceu anyway, so if its not in the reeevesverse or titans world its better to not release it.

BS? Maybe. Then again, the merger happened after the movie started filming, so the people making the decisions now are not the same people who made the decisions then. Plus, there's been speculation for a while that the Discovery leadership wants to fold HBO MAX into Discovery Plus and focus on unscripted content, despite all of HBO MAX's successes and hits. Tell somebody like David Zaslav that it might cost another $100 million to market the movie and get it into theaters, and he could easily decide to scrap it, because from all accounts, this kind of project isn't a priority.

Weren’t there rumors about Batgirl and Supergirl playing a big part in the new dceu after the Flash movie reset?  I’m beginning to wonder how things will play out now. Is it too early to hope that we’ll finally be rid of Ezra Miller considering all of his baggage?

WB recently had a merge which also hit HBO Max and hence a lot of DC Films and TV series got the boot.  This is why The CW dropped a lot of their DC series.  As for the Batgirl movie, WB wants to cut back on throwing movies just onto a streaming service and which movies will get a theatre release and Batgirl just didn't make the cut for either.

Sure, except the people making the decisions now aren’t the same people making the decisions when the film was made. This is a wild situation but these sort of decisions get made all the time when a new management team takes over. They want to put their stamp on everything moving forward and consider any money spent by the previous team as a sunk cost. 
 

Its ridiculously extreme that they literally don’t want to show the movie ANYWHERE but it makes more sense as a corporate political decision than that the movie was just bad. They release terrible films all the time. It it had to do with quality they would just shove it out to HBOMax and not market it at all.

Between this and the cancellation of The Flash it looks like the new management is cleaning house. Best news in many many years. Let's see if they can get this DC train wreck back on track and get back to making decisions that make sense and making money again.

Sounds to me that the WB didn't want to spend $70 million on a movie that will only be hitting a streaming service and not the theaters.  I don't blame them...

Sad outcome (but understandable).  The problem DC has had from the beginning is not consistency between the shows/films. And DC wanting to rush the team movie that Marvel let build up over time.   Marvel literally mastered the TV street level hero CW tried to do.  I would have liked to have seen Batgirl for a number of reasons but if WB is going scorched earth and trying to restart from the ground up with a cohesive unified universe. ...good luck.  DC is still gonna be waaayyyyy behind Marvel.
