Star Wars 2021 Haslab Black Series Rancor Figure

During June's Live-Stream with the Hasbro Star Wars brand team they announced they would be doing another Star Wars Haslab project this year, this time for Black Series. The only other thing at the time they told us about it was that it would not be a vehicle.

Well now it looks like the cat is out of the bag or more appropriately the Rancor. Hasbro's Star Wars Senior Global Brand Manager Patrick Schneider seemingly let it slip in a recent Fan-Channel Q&A that the next project will be for a 6" scale Black Series Rancor monster. You will want to jump to timestamp 1:45 to hear him say it. He was talking about past Star Wars Haslab items and how they ship to people overseas where he accidently mentioned the Rancor for this year. He tried to quckly backtrack but it seems pretty clear that is what the project will be for.

We still don't know exactly when Hasbro will officially announce this project, but likely soon. This would seem to be 1 of at least three Haslab projects coming this year from Hasbro. We know a Marvel Legends one is coming which we could get the official announcement for as early as tomorrow (7/16), and it was also just announced that another Transformers Haslab project was in the works for this year as well.

After letting it slip out yesterday, Hasbro through StarWars.com has officially confirmed the next Star Wars Haslab project this year will be for a Black Series 6" Scale Rancor creature. No other details have been made available but we do expect the official renouncement with all of that to come soon.

That's cool and all but I'm gonna have to pass. I love Return of the Jedi but I feel a Haslab item is too much for a creature that only appeared in one movie cool sequence aside. I can imagine one of the tiers is going to be a Black Series Malakili or one of the other Rancor Keepers.

Not terribly surprising but today Hasbro announced that the Star Wars Black Series 6" scale Rancor Haslab Campaign would be launching this fall. They even have a placeholder page set up for it.

It's not surprising because fall is only a few weeks away, but we suspect the campaign won't launch until October. Hasbro's current Haslab project for the Galactus Marvel Legends figure will be winding down in about a week and they are expected to announce the second Haslab project for the year on Friday which will be for Transformers. Like Galactus the transformers one will likely run for 30 days which would have it going through the month of September, leaving the 3rd project (This Star Wars one) launching at the end of September or early October. Hasbro also announced this years Pulse-Con would be taking place on October 22-23. This will likely give them opportunities to further plug the project as it heads into it's final weeks. I suppose they might wait until Pulse-Con to launch it, but starting it at the end of September makes more sense.

The big questions for the Rancor will be price and how many backers will be needed to guarantee the figure goes into production. This year's Marvel Legends Galactus figure is almost definitely going to reach it's minimum number of backers of 14k this week, but the project has been taking heat from many collectors who aren't happy with the $400 price and the high number of minimum backers needed from the previous years Marvel Haslab campaign. Last year the Marvel campaign only needed 6k backers. The much higher number is likely going to prevent this Marvel project from reaching any of it's extra stretch goals.

If Hasbro decides to give the Rancor a similar price and backing goal, then it's hard to imagine it won't have a significant uphill in achieving those goals.

They'd be nuts to attach a Galactus-type price and backing goal to the Rancor, since there's no reason this thing should have as many parts, any light-up features, and it should only be around half Galactus's height.
Time will tell, I guess.

  • JayC changed the title to Star Wars Fan-First Friday Live-Stream for November 5th Coverage

They say this will be all about the Rancor and be showing behind the scenes for how it's made. They are now showing the announcement video they first showed during Pulse-Con.

They showed an actual prototype model for the Rancor. This is the first model and it will only get better from here. They said this early prototype was able to stand under it's own power. The arms and legs are harder plastic, the body will have a vinyl skin that is softer over the body.

More to come...

There is drool on the mouth. The grey model gives you a better sense of how it will look. You can move the piece around it's mouth.

They showed the reach of it with the model. It can reach out 42" and up 27".

He has long articulated fingers. Has butterfly joints in the shoulders. They tested the joints first thing with this model. The mouth can open and is articulated and can look like he eats figures. They are working to be able to get a big chunk of a 6" figure in the mouth of the Rancor. They showed a Stormtrooper which is their basic body.

They will be showing more features at a later date. More than 9 counts of the deco.

The first stretch goal for the Rancor will be a Gamorrean Guard on POTF Cardback with coint

The Rancor can hold the Guard and will be able to look like he is being eaten. They show the model eating the Guard and working to make it so he will go even deeper in the mouth.

The backers total includes people from all over the world as of now.

Panel ends.

Theyve already released a Gamorrean Guard. How about something new for a stretch goal for a once in a life time offer? There's reuse and then there's ridiculous laziness like this. That Guard better be bitten in half or something else unique.

It is unique. It comes with a coin. Ha.

While the Hasbro Star Wars Black Series 6" Scale Rancor Haslab project has yet to reach it's minimum funding goal of 9k backers, they have gone on and revealed the second stretch goal for the project.

If the project reaches 13,500 backers then you will get movie-inspired bone accessories and a world-building backdrop to create your very own movie-inspired display.

The project with just over 21 days left currently has 5,120 backers. The other week during a live-stream they announced the first stretch goal which was a Black Series Gamorrean Guard on a POTF cardback and collector coin which will be added if it reaches 11k backers.

There are also 2 other unknown stretch goals that are planned for this one. The cost on this one is $349.99. Check out the new images for stretch goal number 2 below.

Hasbro today has announced yet another live-stream that will focus solely on their Haslab Black Series Rancor campaign. They say they will be showing off a fully painted model of the figure as well as revealing the final two stretch goals for the project. The live-stream will begin at 11am ET.

Yesterday Hasbro revealed the second stretch goal for the campaign which was a movie-inspired bone accessories and a world-building cardboard backdrop. These would require 13,500 backers to be added. The first stretch goal a Black Series Gamorrean Guard on a POTF cardback and collector coin which will be added if it reaches 11k backers.

The campaign seems to actually have lost backers since yesterday. When we reported about the second stretch goal yesterday the campaign had 5,120 of the minimum 9k backers needed for the Rancor to move forward. Today as I type this the campaign is down to 5,100 backers.

The campaign was first announced at the end of October during Hasbro's big Pulse-Con event were it had it's own dedicated panel. Then earlier this month Hasbro held another live-stream dedicated solely to the Rancor campaign.

The Rancor currently has the least amount of backers of the three active Haslab campaigns running on the Pulse website. The one for the G.I. Joe Skystriker currently has 5,443 Backers and the Ghostbusters Proton pack has 8,499 Backers. The Proton pack has gained enough backers that it is guaranteed to go into production. Both the Ghostbusters and G.I. Joe campaigns launched after the Star Wars one.

Hasbro today released new image via cNet showing off the grey model for their Haslab Black Series Rancor figure. Currently the campaign seems to continue to struggle a bit having only 5,111 backers of the minimum 9k needed to move into production. The cost of the figure is $349.99.

Earlier this week Hasbro revealed the second tier stretch goal for this one which was a cardboard backdrop and some bone accessories which didn't seemingly go over to well with fans. In fact the campaign which at one point had 5,120 backers actually moved backwards right after that reveal.

On Friday (11/19) at 11am ET Hasbro plans to hold another live-stream dedicated to hyping this campaign where they say they will reveal the first painted prototype of the figure as well as announce the final two stretch goals. Many are hoping the final two stretch goals will be for a 6" Black Series Rancor Keeper and Oola The Green Slave Girl figures. Whether those actually end up being the stretch goals or not remains to be seen, and if at least one of those ends up being offered will that be enough to get more fans on board for this one? Only time will tell.

Hasbro today is holding their second live-stream for November which will focus on their Haslab Black Series Rancor campaign. Today we should get a look at their first painted model of the figure as well as find out what the final two stretch goals for this project will be. Currently we know the campaign will move into the production phase if it reaches 9k backers. At 11k backers they will throw in a Black Series Gamorrean Guard on a POTF cardback and collector coin. At 13,500 backers they will throw in some bone accessories and a cardboard backdrop.

As I type this the campaign has 5,134 backers with just over 17 days left before it ends. We will update this story with any new images and info revealed during the live-stream as they happen.

They showed off the painted model which you can check out below.

The chain on the wrist will be medal. Same with the earing. It will have separate shoulder pads.

The figure has ratchet joints. My guess they wanted to point that out since they were missing from the Marvel Legends Sentinel.
