From StarTrek.com:

Playmates Toys and ViacomCBS Consumer Products today announced that ViacomCBS has awarded the global toy company with the licensing rights for action figures, vehicles and ships, role play and other toy categories for all Star Trek properties. Playmates will launch its new Star Trek toy line in 2022, following Star Trek’s entry into kids’ content with the premiere of Star Trek: Prodigy, the first Star Trek series aimed at younger audiences.

Among the qualities Playmates will bring to the Star Trek Universe are its attention to brand detail, authentic portrait sculpting, and new product innovations it plans to introduce to its forthcoming Star Trek collections. Fans can look forward to a new lineup of action figures and accessories from Star Trek: Discovery, Star Trek: Lower Decks, Star Trek: Picard, other Star Trek series throughout the universe coming soon, and future selections from the expansive Star Trek Universe of series and motion pictures, including the Paramount+ CG-animated series Star Trek: Prodigy produced by Nickelodeon Animation Studio and CBS Studios. Details on forthcoming product lines from Playmates will be announced at a future date.

“As Star Trek readies to beam into the kids’ space for the first time with Star Trek: Prodigy on Paramount+, we are thrilled to also enter the toy aisle with Playmates, offering a new generation of fans out of this world toys that will allow them to embark on their own Star Trek adventures at home,” said Dion Vlachos, Executive Vice President, Hardlines and Retail, ViacomCBS Consumer Products. “Playmates Toys has deep experience in developing Star Trek figures and playsets – in fact, they helped to define and raise the stature of the range of collectibles. The expertise and ingenuity they plan to bring to figures, ships and more will elevate the play experience for kids and collectors alike.”

We’re excited to be transported back into the Star Trek Universe, a brand and world that we know very well,” said Karl Aaronian, senior vice president, Playmates Toys. “Our product team includes some lifelong super fans, like me, and we are honored to join with ViacomCBS again to help further engage fans with the wealth of new content coming as well as captivate a new generation of kids with the positive values that Gene Roddenberry introduced in his Trek world.”

Playmates was the master toy licensee for Star Trek from 1992–1999, launching award-winning collections of action figures and innovative accessories from Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and classic Star Trek. In 2009, the company also released the official figures and accessories based on the J.J. Abrams Star Trek motion picture.

Star Trek: Discovery streams on Paramount+ in the United States, airs on Bell Media’s CTV Sci-Fi Channel and streams on Crave in Canada, and on Netflix in 190 countries.

Star Trek: Picard streams on Paramount+ in the United States, in Canada on Bell Media’s CTV Sci-Fi Channel and streams on Crave, and on Amazon Prime Video in more than 200 countries and territories.

Star Trek: Lower Decks streams exclusively in the United States and Latin America on Paramount+, on Amazon Prime Video in Australia, New Zealand, Europe, Japan, India and more, and in Canada, airs on Bell Media’s CTV Sci-Fi Channel and streams on Crave.

Well, I wouldn't set my hopes to high on seeing a kind of Black Series but with Star Trek characters.

No I kinda think that might be the direction this new series could be going in, I don't know why they wouldn't people have been asking for a Black Series style Star Trek line since forever, and Playmates isn't really doing anything big right now, they need a good collector line, this could probably be it, I don't know why they'd do some dinky barely posable stuff but hey it is Playmates, these could just be the old Playmates line with better faces ahahah.

I personally hope these are in the 4.5 inch scale of the originals, but if they are a 6 inch line I think some of you naysayers might just come around. I have continued to buy TMNT and Ben 10 figures over the years just to keep tabs on what Playmates is currently doing. Their articulation now is much better than what they did in the past. They recently did 6 inch figures of Billie Eilish (While I’m not a fan of her music or her) the action figure was really well done and had a photo real print on the face. I can’t wait to see what they do for Star Trek. Really looking forward to new electronic ships, especially the USS Cerritos!

Hmm, can a toy manufacturer sustain a line of Trek figures past the first wave these days? We have seen companies like Mezco and McFarlane launch a line only to explode above the launch pad. Prior to that we have DST who said and still says there is not enough interest in the brand for them to make a spaceship every 3 years.

So does Playmates know something these others dont? They did do a pretty complete and extensive line in the 90s in all kinds of scales and as rumor had it, flooded the market with too much product that caused them to tank. Perhaps they are back with lessons learned? I can't wait to see where this goes but definately not putting any $$ aside to purchase this time around. I have plenty of their 90s stuff that no one wants.

Back in July Playmates Toys had announced that they would once again be releasing action figures, vehicles and ships, role play and other toy categories for all Star Trek properties. Playmates was well known for their Star Trek figures back in the 90's and then they did a brief stint of products during the first Chris Pine movie. Well now it looks like they will be starting the actual reveals for their new stuff in just 6 days from now.

Still no details on exactly what they will be doing as far as scale, design or anything like that. We don't even know which series/movies they will be starting off with and whether it will be stuff for the modern shows like Discovery, Prodigy and Picard or whether it will be more classic stuff. They likely will sooner or later do a mixture of both.

Of course when more details become available in 6 days we will be sure to bring that news to you.

Shown via StarTrek.com are new five-inch, 1:14 scale figures with 14 points of articulation for Star Trek II: The Wrath Of Khan (James T. Kirk, Captain Spock, and Khan Noonien Singh), Star Trek The Next Generation (Lt. Commander Data, Captain Jean-Luc Picard, and Commander William Riker) and Star Trek Discovery (Commander Saru and Science Officer Michael Burnham) figures. The figures from the older shows and movies will come in Playmates Toys 90's nostalgic packaging while the Discovery figures will come in Star Trek Universe packaging.

They are also doing a 21-inch long U.S.S Enterprise from the Original Series which includes lights, sounds, and phrases. Available in nostalgic packaging and Star Trek: The Original Series Phaser complete with lights and sounds. Available in nostalgic packaging.

These initial items will be out at stores in July followed by more items in 2023.

I'm not impressed with these. The sculpting isn't that great and the articulation is lacking. I was willing to give them a second look when they hit stores bit The scale is a dealbreaker for.me.

These are def meant to be a nod to the original toy line I think. The Enterprise looks great. If the price point is reasonable I am actually happy with these. I wouldn't be surprised of they dont try and come out with something like  a 6" scale in 2023. Playmates however isn't known for doing higher end adult collectible figures so even if they do I don't know how good they are gonna be.

Well gotta say these are not that awful in the face department, the Body's seem a bit cheap and kid-toyish, but I think that was the desired effect, Playmates doesn't really do super intricate adult oriented stuff, but this kinda walks the line between for kids and for adults, I can see adults being quite happy with this product, I personally wouldn't buy these no matter how good they look, but I am really glad to see that Star Trek action figures are back for everyone who's been wondering where they have been in the market I hope this line lives long and prospers!

not going to lie it would have been excellent to see these 6'' but it's Playmates and as Long as the fans are happy, that's where it's at.

Nice!  Those turned out pretty good actually.  I still have a pretty sizeable collection of the 90's Playmates Trek figures and these definitely have that feel.  I know some people like super detailed stuff, and while I do too, sometimes I just like toys that are fun to play with.  Hopefully the price will be good.  If so I can see myself picking up any Classic and Next Gen figures.
