G.I. Joe Collector's worst fears seem to be coming to fruition as reports are coming out now suggesting that the long rumored upcoming 6" G.I. Joe Classified Major Bludd figure will be a Target store Cobra Island exclusive.

The latest indication of this comes from a report made by HissTank.com saying they have evidence showing a figure listing with the codename Asteroid (F2790) is in fact Major Bludd and it will be a Target store exclusive. This report unfortunately corresponds with my own investigating for the Bludd figure, in that Target has been the only retailer here in the US that I have seen having the figure listed. The only thing that has given me pause in saying it's definitely a Target exclusive is that I've had more than one person tell me the product number seen in the Target system for it didn't match up with the ones used with the previous Cobra Island figures, suggesting perhaps it was a regular release and not a store exclusive.

Since Hisstank isn't clear on what they are basing their report on for declaring it a Target exclusive, I can't say how reliable their report really is, but again up until this point I've seen no other retailers showing that Major Bludd would be a figure they can offer in the US, hence leaving the most likely outcome of it being a store exclusive. And if Hisstank is correct, that this is a figure already arriving in the US at the shipping ports, I think it's safe to say other stores would have it in their systems by now if they were going to be carrying it.

I also don't think Bludd is the only figure coming to Target. In fact any non-movie figure Hasbro decides to reveal later this week during their Fan-Fest event is likely going to be a store exclusive.

Some have speculated that perhaps Hasbro will be able to offer some of these Target exclusives on their own Pulse website. I have know doubt that the UK version of Pulse will since there are no Target's in the UK, but we will have to see if Hasbro is able to allocate any for it's US site. Target might not be to inclined to allow Hasbro to carry one of their in-demand exclusives, but on the other hand I could see Hasbro trying to use these as incentive to get more people to pay to join their Premium service which is supposed to allow people first crack at buying stuff on their website. Yes that is seemingly the hobby we now live in today were a toy company wants you to pay them just have a better chance of being able to buy their products.

No matter what, the frustrating nightmare of trying to collect G.I. Joe Classified figures definitely looks like will continue outside of the movie product which I am sure will be much easier to find.

Of course until any or all of this is officially confirmed by Hasbro, we will treat it as RUMOR.

Rarely have I seen a company try so hard to kill off a toy line like Hasbro is doing with the G.I. Joe Classified series. They make them next to impossible to get and ship them out to retailers that just don't give a damn about the customers.

Having said that; it is only fair to point out that the figures they produce are impressive. They (Hasbro) seems to care enough to produce a good, sometimes great product.

Yet why do they not seem to care if we buy them? What am I missing?

Hasbro doesn't do this with their other lines. I have zero issues finding or purchasing Star Wars or Marvel Legends figures. What is the issue with the Classified line?

The only thing I can figure is Hasbro was depending on the new movie to carry this line. With the movie on hold, the line is limping along with Hasbro putting little if any effort into getting it out. Same goes for Target.

Just for clarification, however, in my area, I have trouble finding ANY line at any store.

I never got to see the Viper nor Firefly at my local Target stores so the hopes to get this one are very slim...😦

With the exception of the Target figures, you can buy the GI Joe figures online, so they aren't impossible to find. I can go out right now and buy the entire first series at one of our local Vintage Stocks at $25 each, and I can find the Cobra Commander wave at Walgreens. I just got the series 1 repaints from BigBadToyStore

Hasbro isn't trying to kill the line. Target gets their exclusives because Target is paying Hasbro a huge amount of money to sell them. The stores are Hasbro's customers, so they're doing fine, and we are irrelevant to them from a business POV. The stores' customers are all of us, so if you can't find them easily out in the wild then that's the stores' fault for not ordering enough or their regional warehouses aren't sending out cases in a way that ends with solid distribution. And, it's hard to find the Target figures when you have every rabid collector lining up at 6 am on the day they are released and they all get bought up and then bots buy out the online stock. That's partially a scalper issue, and until they put in options on the website to help stop that it's not going to stop. Even if they do put in precautions, the scalpers will find a way around it. They're smarter than the website people, and they always will be.

You make a good point, as much as I despise store exclusives they are unfortunately here to stay. It's on Target to order enough to meet demand and hopefully they will do so. I'm sorry to say that I'm not confident that will happen leaving quite a few of us collectors out in the cold once again.

I personally am out on this line because of the Target exclusives but I also realized it's the way things are right now.

Around the time those came out, my closest store had a simple printed notice on copy paper hanging on the pegs stating the exact street date for the figures, and how they could not be sold before then. Not long after the street-date came and went, the notice disappeared . . . along with the entire G.I. Joe section (such as it was).

The figures themselves NEVER showed up.

I’m just about done with most the Hasbro lines I collect. I was excited for the GI Joe line, but collecting isn’t worth the stress anymore. Black Series and Marvel Legends are virtually non-existent in my area and it seems like Power Rangers get one set per store. I never see exclusives of any kind locally and always have to pay scalpers prices, and if even one figure I want slips through my hands I’ll usually give it up. I’m waiting patiently on a Baroness and Viper re-release, but missing out on Major Bludd would be enough for me to say screw it.

In my view its a combo of things. The delay of the movie I am sure killed whatever little interest retailers like Target and Walmart had in GIJoe. Also these days Walmart and Target seem to have such a tight grip hold on the industry that essentially what they want goes. So when Walmart and or Target say they want exclusives or they want first dibs on releases for something, guess what the toy companies say, sure no problem. Of course long term all this does is frustrate more and more collectors who decide the hassle just isn't worth it and move on to other things. So a demographic that wans't huge to begin with only gets smaller. It also squeezes out the small retailer guy who will eventually just cease to exist. At which point the monopoly hold Target and Walmart have will only be worse. While G.I. Joe Classified is probably the most difficult line to collect with only NECA's TMNT stuff being a bit more difficult since that entire line is all exclusives, this is a problem we see more and more with all action figure brands. And honestly I don't really see it getting better.

Hey, I know that song!

I actually got so fed up with the Classified line I not only stopped collecting it, I sold off what I DID find. When the movie finally comes out, and IF Hasbro decides to actually do their jobs, I'll see about giving them another chance.

Eh whatever, I actually stopped even thinking or hoping I'd ever find a Joe exclusive, so I just don't even fret about it, I know they won't be in my collection, I just wait for the regular releases and that's that, so when I heard Target exclusive it translates to "N/A" and I move along. I love this line enough to just take what I can get, and I'm not going to indulge any scalpers so they can keep their 150$ figures.

That's the spirit! If it isn't at one of my local stores, or online where I can get it for MSRP, it doesn't exist to me.

In some way or some how, anyone who buys the line, mainly collectors should slap the #$%^& out of Hasbro and Hasbro Pulse with their over the top, super hyper attitude that they are releasing something so it has to be an exclusive somewhere.  When are they going to learn that exclusives to certain stores causes nothing but trouble and scalpers?  Or is this their own scheme so they have all the scalpers buy all the exclusives so they make a buck and the scalpers try to make it back with ebay?

Within 10-15 miles of my location, I have 2 Targets and neither Target ever got the Firefly exclusive in stock.  This is based on what Target.com and employees told me at these stores.  Could they have lied to me?  Sure, but I know I still don't have a Firefly and will have to look at ebay to get one.

That's being the modern Joe collector am I right, good sport, I feel the same, I'm exhausted with getting all sweaty and waving my arms about things I can't find, spending sleepless nights plotting ways to obtain things, I'm not going to break my back, I'm not going to break my wallet, I've just accepted that, it's my new Zen collecting approach and it's cool, if it shows up for a decent price and I can either grab it off a shelf, or click buy now...I'll take it, if not... well then firefly and major bludd ain't in my Joe universe, currently I believe more in the existence of Nessie then I do cobra Island.

Great....another Target exclusive for a much wanted character. I'm still holding my breath that Beach Head will see a mass release (and I'm sure it will eventually), but now we're stacking up more characters that people are gonna be running around trying to beat out the scalpers for.

I'm hoping what we see now is just Hasbro trying to keep the fire going (or at least the coals warm) until they can get a full-on marketing blitz underway, built around the eventual movie release.

With any luck, once that happens, we'll get all the Baroness', Storm Shadows and Beachheads on the pegs en masse where we can ALL get one.

Well that sucks donkey balls. Bludd was one of the figures I most wanted. Hopefully BBTS gets a few. I've got one Target near me and I've never seen an exclusive there.

I had to bail on this line. It sucks, but I can't afford to pay 3-4 times the price of every figure. It seems hasbro doesn't really want us commoners to buy these, so it can't be helped. Love GI Joe as a kid, but these are not worth the scalper prices by any means.

I saw that somebody posted an auction for the first figure of the .ajor and is rounding the $200+ mark already with several bidders...😮💲

I can buy a lot of things for $200 except for this G.I. Joe figure. I'm glad I found other toy lines to collect other than this. No self-respecting toy collector should always pay more than 6 times the price of a figure.

Thanks to an eBay seller we have our first look and confirmation for the G.I. Joe Classified Target exclusive Cobra Island Major Bludd figure. No word yet on when this will actually be released at Target stores. Check out the images below.

That is just silly. I appreciate Hasbro might be in a bit of a bind getting these to retailers since there isn't much media tie-in to justify stores carrying a line. but the exclusive thing with Target isn't working for a lot of buyers. They need to have the figures available with online merchants as well. If they need to give Target exclusives to make the line work then Target should just be getting variants. Baroness and Major Bludd are just too significant to the property to not make them readily available to customers. Maybe now that there's a movie things will ease up.

This figures is going for such a stupid amount, I have a hard time believing the seller will actually get paid.  No one is that foolish to throw that amount of money away, right?  At most, this figure fetches $80 something on the aftermarket once he gets his official release.

The figure itself looks amazing and I can't wait to jump through all the hoops Targethasbro lays out for me to try to get one.

As for the issue of availability, I have nothing more to say that has not already been said.  Good luck to all.
