Images Of Javicia Leslie As 'Batwoman' In The New Batwoman Costume

Recommended Posts

Warner Bros. Television has released first look photos of the re-designed suit for new Batwoman Ryan Wilder (Javicia Leslie) in Batwoman Season 2.  The redesigned Batsuit was conceptualized by Batwoman costume designer Maya Mani and created by Ocean Drive Leather, the wig created by Janice Workman and makeup styled by Cory Roberts.

Notable changes include:

  • A new cowl featuring natural, curly hair with red streaks, red gauntlets over the forearms, and shorter boots.
  • A redesign with new materials, featuring laser etching to create more visual depth and a stronger silhouette.

Leslie’s Ryan Wilder is described as “relatable, messy, loyal, a little goofy, and apart from being a lesbian, she couldn’t be more different than the woman who wore the Batsuit before her, billionaire Kate Kane. Ryan, who we meet living in her van with only her plant for company, has been made to feel trapped and powerless by the system her whole life, and believes the Batsuit is the key to breaking out of it. But what she’ll come to discover is that it’s not the suit that makes Ryan Wilder powerful, it’s the woman inside of it who finds her destiny in changing Gotham City for good.”

Ok so living in a van is definitely something that distinguishes her from the previous hand-me-down recipient, but not sure how that preps the background for the expert martial artist she would need to be in order to fight crime the way Batman did (and this is the primary weakness of the premise: regardless who they get in the suit, they will ALWAYS be in the Batman's shadow). I'm sure they'll find someway to get her some combat skills, but what the producers are missing about Batman is that he had to start training very early in life to be as effective as he is. That VHS or dvd box set of booty boot camp found on sale in the bargain bin isnt gonna cut it.

TBH it doesnt matter to me.  I gave the show a shot, but the previous season was so atrocious I couldn't finish it.

I gotta say whatever comes of this, she definitely looks better than the previous one, especially the suit.

Don't care for the show but this is a great costume update, especially the hair.

YeAh I always wondered, during the 90s when pony tails were everywhere and Superman had a mullet, why they didnt give the Batman an earring and a ponytail....'cause thats what really makes a superhero.

I'm joking of course.....

Much better than her previous look, maybe not as secretive compared to previous costume but it's CW show it's easy to let it slide.

Ooooooh....scary. Like any self respecting criminal is going to be trembling in his/her boots at the sight of that. Like getting attacked by Annie. Simple points for at least getting rid of the red hair. I'll give it three seasons. Not because it's worth it but because the execs will see the message more important than the story, as usual. It'll open to fair ratings. Hell, I'll even give it a look. It'll dwindle down, but keep it's head above water just long enough where the suits will fool themselves into thinking it'll get better next season. Season two will spend the entire time circling the toilet while social media tries to push on everyone they're some kind of "ist" for not tuning in. Season three will just be the death throws of pushing it's message in a final attempt to guilt people into watching while in all honesty the only numbers will be coming from those people who set it to record, never really watched it, and just never got around to deleting it from the record list.

That's all assuming, of course, that Javicia doesn't come to the moment of enlightenment Ruby Rose came to when she realized this is probably career suicide for any budding actor. Anyone noticed how many prospects poor Melissa Benoist has had since Supergirl has tanked? No? Oh, that's right, she hasn't had any. I'm sure they'll be contacting her for another guest spot on Robot Chicken soon though. I still maintain that she would make a much better (and likeable) Captain Marvel than the current one.

The suit is an improvement, though the hair is kinda ridiculous, but I see it as a mute point. I'm still convinced the CW is quietly pulling a CBS and liquidating their superhero shows. I figure Legends will be next with Batwoman or Black Lightning following quickly, if not simultaneously. As the new flagship, I see Flash staying just long enough to turn out the lights.

Hopefully, being a much better series AND playing a lot farther into the CW's wheelhouse (pretty young people doing pretty young people things) will allow Stargirl to survive the Arrowpocalypse.

About her new looks... maybe it's just the angle. to think they have all the resources to make this look great... but they didn't :( Nevertheless, optimistic as I am, I hope she'd look better in the series itself. Another concern of mine is the continuity of the story... how would they graft her in when she doesn't look anywhere close to Batwoman's twin sister in Season 1? Somehow, in my mind, the best to go about it is say that the old Batwoman was killed in action then she replaced her.

About the liquidation: Stargirl is such a positive and an enormously bright beacon for possible new Arrowverse shows (not to mention, the equally high ratings) I'm pretty sure they won't close the curtain on her yet. I WOULD hope that it spawns new shows giving us more Justice Society characters... Hawkman is totally overdue for one! (maybe a teen HM :)
