Target Exclusive DC Multiverse White Knight Batman Variant Revealed

Recommended Posts

This one combines two of Todd's favorite things, Batman and repaint variants. It's the new DC Multiverse Target exclusive White Knight Red Variant Batman figure that will be released in March 2021.

Now you might be asking why would they do Batman in red? Well I can only speculate, but as best I can tell this is meant to be some kind of nod to the coloring used in the comics. If you have read the White Knight story, you might have noticed a lot of the artwork was done with a red like tint to it.

If that's not it then maybe they ran out of bronze paint???

LOL, IDK not sure anyone ever predicted a red painted Batman figure being made :)

No, not the figure itself of course not, but the fact that more variants will be added to the line.

Being a target exclusive, it’s probably red as a homage to their target red card. Like they did with transformers siege red wing figure. I wonder if you will need a red card account to purchase it like said red wing above.Cool color but I’m already on the fence about continuing to collect the line. I don’t mind Batman stuff but I wish there was more variety in the line , as in comic inspired rogues gallery based figures(that aren’t Joker or Harley).

I believe this is actually an homage to one of the variant covers for Batman: White Knight #2, which is red and brown.  Thing is, Batman isn't red and brown on the cover though. The entire cover is those colors. This just looks weird and silly.

Much of the artwork as pointed out in the article from the White Knight story shares the color of this figure which is what I think it is meant to be a nod to if you really need justification for this thing. More examples here.

I dont think you will find it to difficult to find this one.

I wouldn't know if I could guarantee that, although on the other hand there won't be a sea of fans and scalpers behind this figure as they do with the Neca TMNT.

I get that batman is a big seller but this is getting ridiculous. Nobody needs a red and pink white knight batman even if it resembles  the artwork and covers. I feel like deep diving into those figures isn't something you should be doing in the first couple years of having a license. Only way I could ever justify it is if they went all in and did the heavy shading like the neca lootcrate mirage shredder. That could be cool. But this just feels like a funko lazy store exclusive if you go solely on how the figure looks.

Doesn't really look like what was first shown, I don't think I can even call the final product a "red" variant.

It's closer to comics colors now tho.  But yes, without context and shadows it looks so bizarre in these colors, it indeed registers in my mind like catman and not Batman.
