New DC Multiverse Batman Designed By Todd McFarlane Walmart Exclusive Figure Revealed

Todd McFarlane, one of the most iconic comic book artists of the late 20th century, has unveiled a brand-new DC Multiverse Batman action figure designed, created and produced by McFarlane and his award-winning McFarlane Toys company.

This new Batman action figure is inspired from the mind of Todd McFarlane. McFarlane has created a new never-before-seen before version of Batman’s costume. It features a Black Cape and Cowl, comes with two swords, a base, and includes a collectible art card with Todd McFarlane's Batman artwork on front and character biography on the back. The incredibly detailed 7-inch scale figure is designed with McFarlane Toys' signature "Ultra Articulation" with up to 22 moving parts for a full range of posing and play.

In the 1980s, Todd McFarlane began drawing Batman professionally, working on the classic storyline "Batman: Year Two™" in Detective Comics™, and creating iconic artwork, including his dynamic cover for Batman #423. Todd went on to become a titan of the comic book industry but has always had an affinity for Batman.

"Batman has always been my favorite character- excluding Spawn," said McFarlane, creative force and CEO of McFarlane Toys. "I've always liked the fact that Batman has no superpowers. When it comes down to it, he's just a dude in a costume trying to combat evil. Conceivably, if Batman were in a huge battle in space, without any of his gadgets and tech, he could potentially die, unlike Superman™. I've always had an affinity for Batman, and it’s an honor to design a brand new version of a Batman figure for all fans and collectors."

McFarlane Toys is also bringing collectors and fans a brand-new collector program. With the launch of the new Batman figure by Todd McFarlane, McFarlane Toys has announced its new McFarlane Gold Label Collection Series that will feature characters from your favorite pop-culture and entertainment brands. All figures released in the McFarlane Gold Label Collection will be highly limited and showcased in limited- edition packaging with a McFarlane Toys Gold Label Collection printed in foil. I can't imagine this is what DC/WB had in mind when giving McFarlane the DC Multiverse license. 5 waves in and all we've seen are like 20 versions of Batman and a buncha weirdo alternate dimensions versions of Joker and Robin. Sure, throw in the occasional Darkwing (still Bat related) and the obligatory Superman and some animated versions of characters that haven't gotten a regular versions yet, but this is lame to the max. They shoulda just given him a Bat-Verse license and let him do his whole "I can only do 7 inch scale" thing and let a more capable and imaginative company like Jazzwares do a REAL Multiverse line in 6" scale like everyone wanted. Even looking at some of the stuff Spinmasters is doing, I think they could do a decent job. The figures they're doing with DC unite are much better than I think most people expected. And I know, I know....hardcore DC fans are cool with the 7" scale, but just imagine how cool would it be, and how many non-DC fans could they attract (me and a lot of casual Marvel fans) if they just did a line we could mix and play along with our other massive 6" line?

We all knew Todd was gonna do his "own thing", which has become so cliche that it's pretty much what we all expected from him, but from a pure business standpoint you'd have though he'd put his personal so called uniqueness (again, all too cliche) aside to go with the more profitable approach. Then again, if that's what you expected from Todd you've never learned anything about Todd.

I think the reality is that DC/WB is on board with all that Batman, in fact indications have been made that it's at their behest. I think you see it with both McFarlane and Spinmaster that they have both gone heavy with Batman since they took over the license. I agree its to much but I don't think McFarlane just went on a Batman kick on their own free accord.

People are forgetting that DC has to approve everything that McFarlane and all other licensees produce. So if we're seeing it then DC put their stamp of approval on it. Its not like they gave Todd the license and he can just do whatever he wants with no oversight.

I think it would be okay except for the spawny type features that Satam mentioned. Todd is trying to usher in the "spawn" of a new Batman. Keep to the blue print Todd. If its not broke don't fix it.

Interesting design to be honest. Not really super interested, but more curious about what other characters he'll be doing in his own style.

And sure, another Batman, he's being doing almost every version possible but that's what sells. I don't think DC is complaining. Let's be honest, for more casual fans, Batman, along with Wonder Woman, Supes and any other "main" member of the Justice League, are characters people, and specially children, recognize. Also, the Batmetal figures are selling well I guess, I see a lot of people excited about the different versions of Batman. Otherwise, McFarlane would've stopped producing them if people didn't like them, just like they canceled the Build a Batmobile gimmick Todd was trying to push in order to do something different to BAFs. 

Personally, I haven't found any of the figures McFarlane has released so far to be really appealing to me. I think they showed a Cyborg based on the Teen Titans cartoon, now if he's gonna be the start of the whole main team, I sure will jump in.

Todd McFarlane has released a video giving us a better look at the upcoming DC Multiverse 7" Batman figure designed by McFarlane himself. The figure was announced with an official press release a few days ago.

In the video Todd mentions there are TWO versions of the figure being done. One with a black cape and one with a dark navy cape. We assume all the black portions on the one figure will be navy blue on the other, but that is not entirely clear since Todd only says the capes.

Besides colors, it would also appear that the figures will mix it up with the accessories. Between the two figures we will see two small swords that fit on the back of the figure, batarang, grapple gun, two daggers and night goggles. Best I can tell only one of the figures will come with the two daggers and night goggles.

In the original press release it stated Todd was launching a McFarlane Gold Label Collection Series of highly limited released figures that were showcased in limited- edition packaging with a McFarlane Toys Gold Label Collection printed in foil.

While it wasn't really made clear in the original press release, it looks like one of these two Batman figures will be released under that Gold Label Collection Series banner, and THAT ONE will be exclusive to Walmart stores. In turn that leads us to believe thatthe other one will be done as a general release. I am guessing the Gold Label Collection one will have the extra set of daggers and the night goggles and probably feature the dark navy colors. Both figures should also come with a base and art card.

I think i'm probably the only person offended at this McFarlane Batman. Just on the basis that the core of Batman is that he's not a killer! So not only would he not use guns but also knives, swords, stabbing spikes on his gloves...he's not a ninja! he's also not Deadpool. I don't think McFarlane understands how deadly edged weapons can be.

It's true batman is just a man, but his "power" is always that he's a master detective, scientist, strategist, as well as someone who is learned in many forms of combat.

I just don't see what the thought is behind a "Spawnized" Batman especially when there is no storyline behind it.

If this is a "What If McFarlane created the DC Universe?" then give him the line of comics and lets see!

You are not the only one offended by this figure. This guy is pulling from a deep well and half the "fans" don't even know or like the sludge he's pulling up, no matter how good he tries to make them look. I'm offended by his entire approach to this version of the DC Multiverse. Like I said, is it not just better to let him do a Batman Universe and let someone else do the actual DC Multiverse? Seems like such a waste. While you see Hasbro doing a lot of material from the Spider-Man universe, they're by no means concentrating on almost exclusively one property of their master license.

It does look cool, really feeling that legends of Dark Knight line vibes but I would love to see Batman figure in style of Todd's art  like Batman Year 2 style.

Shown below via ToyWiz is our first look at the regular release of the upcoming McFarlane Toys DC Multiverse 7" Todd McFarlane designed Batman figure.

This one varies from the Gold Label Walmart exclusive version in a few minor ways. The cape, mask, gloves and boots are a dark navy blue as opposed to grey. You also get different accessories. The Walmart version came with 2 small gold colored swords and night goggles. This regular version comes with two small spiked handled swords and a gold colored batarang.

The spiked handled swords we can see from this image will fit on the back of the figure and honestly look better than the gold ones that come with the Walmart version.

Back when Todd first showed off the figure he also showed a grapple gun accessory. It's not clear if either version will come with that or if it was dropped all-together.
