Hasbro Teases A Transforming Back To The Future DeLorean

For you Back to the Future fans, it looks like based on this teaser released by Hasbro today, they will be doing a Transformers/Back to the Future mashup of the DeLorean. Details for this will likely be made this coming Friday during their Transformers Fan-Channel event which is said to show off 6 new items. Coverage for that event will be held over on TFormers.com.

Last month we saw indications Hasbro was going to be doing a Transformers/Top Gun mash-up figure and last year they did a Ghostbusters Transforming Ecto-1.

Following a report from earlier today about Hasbro doing a Back To The Future and Transformers crossover figure, we now have word that Hasbro may be planning the same thing for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

While the Back To The Future tease was officially put out by Hasbro, this TMNT one was posted by YU’S HOBBY LAND, so we don't know how confirmed this one is.

If in fact this is a legit thing, we really aren't sure what exactly it would be a Transformer of. Would it be an actual Turtle or would it be something like the Turtle's Party Van??? Hopefully Hasbro will give us official details in the coming days, but for now treat this one as rumor.

I'm thinking it'll probably be the party van. Outside of the Turtles themselves, the van is easily the most iconic image from the franchise. It could be the Technodrome as well. Either way, cool, but not something I'd go after.

Im thinking a delorean and a party van much like the ectotron they released last year hopefully they'll be g1 styled as well so they look good all together

Yesterday right after a teaser put out by Hasbro for some type of Back To The Future/Transformer was released, another teaser image surfaced on line that looked to indicate a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles/Transformers crossover was also in the works.

Well it turns out there is some type of TMNT/Transformers crossover project in the works, only it's not an official one from Hasbro. Instead it's apparently some kind of custom project being done by Swiftcraft.

While the customs look cool, unfortunately that's all these are, and for now we will just have to settle for Back To The Future and probably Top Gun when it comes to official Hasbro Transformers mash-ups.

A Transformers Party Wagon I think would have definitely been cool, but if we ever saw Hasbro do some type of TMNT crossover, it would likely come on the Power Rangers front and not Transformers. Mainly because there is currently a Power Rangers/TMNT comic book series crossover happening between Boom Studio and IDW.

A transformable Delorean sounds pretty cool! I was really tempted by the Ectotron, that one looked pretty nice although it was a bit hard to get.

The TMNT crossover definitely makes more sense with Power Rangers because of the comics. Although if it were to happen with Transformers the van would be better than having some sort of transformable turtles, at least in my opinion.

I’m game for a Delorean.  Not as sure about a Turtle Van.  Maybe it’s because the DeLorean and Ecto were both real vehicles and the Turtle Van is a cartoonish vehicle but something about this turtles mashup just has less appeal.

You make a good point.  I like the idea of "real" cars becoming transformers over cartoonish cars.

The description of all the features makes this thing sound really cool. Is it bad that I still hesitate to get this or the echo 1? I mean I know how cool they are but when I think of Transformers I think of everyday kind of cars. I don’t know.

Is that last picture on the back of the box?  It’s pretty sweet but I don’t see it on the packaging anywhere.

The flux capiciter and the dates make it pretty cool. Packaging could be more G1 though.

UPDATE: There will be a limited 4-issue comic series from IDW to go along with the figure. The limited edition version of Gigawatt – of which only 1,985 numbered boxes will be released – is available for pre-order on Walmart's website starting at 1:00 p.m. ET on July 2. Gigawatt is also coming to "select retailers" on Oct. 1, 2020, which is also the same day the first issue of the comic releases.

Is this item exclusive to Walmart?

No, they just get first crack at it. Other etailers will have it in Oct, but Walmart was supposed to start taking pre-orders for it today at 1pm ET.

Hasbro has released an official press release for this item. NOTE that the press release states the figure should be available for pre-order NOW. As I post this the figure has not yet been made available on the website. So it's unclear when exactly the Walmart version will be up for pre-order. If you miss out at Walmart there will be another one offered at select etailers in October. Read on for more details:

Great Scott! Hasbro, Inc. (NASDAQ:HAS), Universal Brand Development and Amblin Entertainment today revealed the first-ever TRANSFORMERS-Back to the Future Collaboration, starring the all new character GIGAWATT. This new time-traveling TRANSFORMERS AUTOBOT commemorates 35 years since the groundbreaking adventure film, Back to the Future, took audiences back in time.

When fans of the iconic Back to the Future Time Machine look a little closer at this nostalgic interpretation of the car, they will be treated to a new “robot in disguise” named GIGAWATT, a converting time machine robot. The figure stands at 5.5 inches in Robot mode and can convert to Time Machine mode in 17 steps, plus it includes a blaster and whip antennae accessories, and features movie-inspired details from the film, including Doc Brown-style goggles, a flux capacitor chest piece, and time circuits. In time machine mode, the gullwing doors open and wheels rotate from vertical to horizontal to produce a hovering effect as seen at the end of the film.

In addition to the collectible figure, from IDW comes Transformers / Back to the Future – the four-part, comic book series. The first issue cover is being revealed today, along with the story synopsis: Marty McFly has just returned to his home sweet home, Hill Valley 1985, and everything's looking up... that is, until Marty and his friend Doc Brown's time machine attracts the attention of the Decepticons! With one small mistake, Marty finds himself thrust into adventure to stop the Decepticon plot in the past, present, and future... all with the help of a new time machine: the Autobot, Gigawatt!

TRANSFORMERS robots have always been more than meets the eye, but now, through the TRANSFORMERS Collaborative, fans can experience these larger than life characters as they team-up, mash-up, and meet up with other characters, teams and people who share this same special quality. It is a world of constant change where things are not what they seem.

The GIGAWATT figure is available now for pre-order at Walmart.com with only 1,985 pieces available that feature an exclusive, limited edition numbered package in honor of the 35th anniversary of the first film’s release – July 3, 1985. A second variant release of the figure will be available starting October 1, 2020 via select retailers around the world; part one of the comic book also will be available October 1, wherever comic books are sold.
