McFarlane Toys Critical Role Figure First Look

Back in September it was announced that a number of companies including Funko and McFarlane Toys would be producing products for Critical Role, which started as a live-streamed tabletop Dungeons & Dragons like gaming show done by a group of professional voice-over actors who are friends. Since its debut, it has evolved into a full-fledged digital media company with multiple shows, podcasts, comic books and live performances. They even recently complete a successful Kickstarter to produce a high-end animated special called Critical Role: The Legend of Vox Machina. The goal for the Kickstarter was $750,000, and they brought in $11,385,449 with 88,887 backers.

Images of the first McFarlane Toys figure for this property has surfaced online. The figure is of the character known as Mollymauk Tealeaf, and is said to be 12" in height. If you are a fan of this property and want to check out the figure, click here.

Wait, this article is kinda hard to follow. So, Critical Role is the game they played on the show? Or is it just the name of the show itself?

Critical Role is the show’s title.  They are playing Dungeons and Dragons.

The game they are playing is just Dungeons and Dragons, Critical Role is the name of the show.  It's a bunch of voice actors playing a custom D&D campaign.

Honestly I knew nothing about this property until I was made aware of the figure image being online. If i wasn’t clear on what they are I apologize, but that description comes from their own official site. That being said they do seem to have a pretty large following and if you check out the video on their Kickstarter page for their animated special where they show a clip of it, it looks pretty cool.

I’m confused what your point is.  Sometimes sarcasm is hard to understand without hearing it, so I assume you’re being sarcastic in the world ‘only’ and are really saying that there will be high demand for these because of the amount of backers?  If not, I don’t think you realize how many people that is.  The Mcfarlane spawn Kickstarter that everyone is losing their minds over has made over 1.5 million dollars with only 12,000 backers. 88,000 is HUUUUUUUUGE

How did you find the images and info?  I’m a casual fan but I’ve been excited since I heard back in September that McFarlane got the license but hadn’t seen anything and still can’t find anything other than this article!

a co-worker made me aware of the show, and I really like it other than the fact that there’s so many episodes that are each 3-4 hours long.  But as a huge brand that’s gained popularity through fans alone, this seems ripe for merchandising.  McFarlane May have struck gold with this.  While people like you who hadn’t heard of it before will be made aware and then gain new fans for the franchise, all of those millions of fans that already exist that don’t collect action figures are going to start with McFarlane.  And if you don’t care either way, you’ve got some cool D&D figures at least.

Is that the American way now? You can't create your OWN IP, so you sponge off someone else's? Does Hasbro even get any of that action? A little something off the back-end maybe?

I don't know. Generally everything is built off something else and D&D is often used in generic terms to describe anything with Wizards, Trolls and so on.

Yeah I don't know what this all is, but I guess I have an idea from reading all of the comments, cool enough sure, I love D&D I play it, but watching other people play it, I don't know maybe that's cool I guess I gotta check it out

Really I just wish some company would make official D&D action figures, I'd buy those

but even if I liked Critical Role, I don't like this dude's look enough to throw a 12 incher of him on my shelf, happy for those who do
