Warner Bros. drops the final trailer for the Joker movie starring Joaquin Phoenix.

Director Todd Phillips “Joker” centers around the iconic arch nemesis and is an original, standalone fictional story not seen before on the big screen. Phillips’ exploration of Arthur Fleck, who is indelibly portrayed by Joaquin Phoenix, is of a man struggling to find his way in Gotham’s fractured society. A clown-for-hire by day, he aspires to be a stand-up comic at night…but finds the joke always seems to be on him. Caught in a cyclical existence between apathy and cruelty, Arthur makes one bad decision that brings about a chain reaction of escalating events in this gritty character study.

Three-time Oscar nominee Phoenix (“The Master,” “Walk the Line,” “Gladiator”) stars in the titular role alongside Oscar winner Robert De Niro (“Raging Bull,” “The Godfather: Part II”) as Franklin. The film also stars Zazie Beetz (“Deadpool 2”), Frances Conroy (TV’s “American Horror Story,” Hulu’s “Castle Rock”), Marc Maron (TV’s “Maron,” “GLOW”), Bill Camp (“Red Sparrow,” “Molly’s Game”), Glenn Fleshler (TV’s “Billions,” “Barry”), Shea Whigham (“First Man,” “Kong: Skull Island”), Brett Cullen (“42,” Netflix’s “Narcos”), Douglas Hodge (“Red Sparrow,” TV’s “Penny Dreadful”) and Josh Pais (upcoming “Motherless Brooklyn,” “Going in Style”).

Oscar nominee Phillips (“Borat,” “The Hangover” trilogy) directs from a screenplay he co-wrote with Oscar-nominated writer Scott Silver (“The Fighter”), based on characters from DC. The film is produced by Phillips and Oscar nominee Bradley Cooper (“A Star Is Born,” “American Sniper”) under their Joint Effort banner, and Oscar nominee Emma Tillinger Koskoff (“The Wolf of Wall Street”). It is executive produced by Michael E. Uslan, Walter Hamada, Aaron L. Gilbert, Joseph Garner, Richard Baratta, and Bruce Berman.

Behind the scenes, Phillips is joined by director of photography Lawrence Sher (“Godzilla: King of the Monsters,” “The Hangover” trilogy), production designer Mark Friedberg (“Selma,” “The Amazing Spider-Man 2”), editor Jeff Groth (“War Dogs,” “The Hangover Part III”), and Oscar-winning costume designer Mark Bridges (“Phantom Thread,” “The Artist”). The music is by Hildur Guðnadóttir (“Sicario: Day of the Soldado”).

Warner Bros. Pictures Presents, in Association with Village Roadshow Pictures, in Association with BRON Creative, a Joint Effort Production, a Film by Todd Phillips, “Joker.” It will be in theaters nationwide October 4, 2019 and will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures.

Yeah...Agreeing with JayC here. It looks good for a story about a man loosing his sanity and I’m sure with all the talent involved it’s going to good. I mean Bradly Cooper is involved, I get the feeling he would keep his name away if he thought it was going to be a stinker

Is this going to connects to DC comics? Is it just a stand alone idea of “what if?” or is it going to dirty up the water even more on the different Jokers and their histories in DC? I bring that up because if it does good this verse will get drop into the comics(he visually looks good).

Everything I heard about this movie leading up to it said that it should be viewed 100% as its own thing and will not connect to any already established continuity, nor are the film makers looking to establish a new continuity.  Look at it as an Elseworlds thing if you want.

I don't even mean continuity wise. DC continuity flew out the window with Justice league. I just dont see the Joker I know from the comics here, period. I see a guy slowly loosing his sanity and seems to have an affection for clowns but thats not the Joker I know. I also feel one of the most appealing things about a character like the Joker is his mystery. We should never know the Joker's real name or see him as just a normal guy who lost his way. I just think that ruins the appeal of the character when you really start pealing the layers away.

Of course I agree this isn’t the Joker we know, it’s been already done well enough in Dark Knight. I look at this movie as cinematic elseworld story which works just fine and from the looks of it it’s gonna be really fun movie that is something in between of serious cinema and superhero flick, even more than spectacular Logan movie.

I think it's actually kind of obvious at this point that Todd Phillips wanted to do Falling Down with a comedian and the studio didn't want it until he changed the guy to the Joker.

I just kind of keep thinking of the last time they tried a standalone Batman villain movie, not tied to the actual universe in which it sits...

I'm a little more comfortable with the guy who previously made The Hangover and Old School than the guy who previously made Vidocq.

True, and hopefully he's able to pull a cohesive film together without too much of WB's legendary meddling, but I'm still questioning the concept to begin with.

I'm not a "can't wait" on this one, more a "huh...we'll see."

I'm still not interested in this, I'm sure this will do well as I'm already hearing Oscar Buzz surrounding the movie and at least one reviewer giving it 10 out of 10. Personally, after Cesar Romero, Jack Nicholson, Heath Ledger, Jared Leto and now Joaquin Phoenix I'm played out on live action Jokers give other characters a chance. I'm with Satam on this one, I believe they wanted to do their version of Falling Down or Taxi Driver but someone in the studio thought that if they attached the Joker name to it would generate more interest.
