During a panel held by Mattel at the Power Con convention today it was announced that the first vehicle for their new 5.5" Masters of the Universe: Origins line coming to retail later this year would be the Sky Sled with Prince Adam figure for $29.99.

They also announced their single packed 5.5 figures would cost $14.99 each and include new mini-comics. The first wave which we saw at SDCC includes He-Man, Skeletor, Man-At-Arms, Beastman, Evil Lyn and Teela. Other figures teased for the future include Orko, Man-E-Faces and Scareglow. Trap Jaw was also announced and should have a pic soon for that one.

Battle Cat which was announced earlier today will cost $24.99. Besides the 5.5" figures they announced a line of Origins mini 2-pack ffigures which will cost $4.99 each and come in Grayskull style packaging.

Look for all of these on retail shelves in time for the holiday season.

Shown below are some images Dave Clark posted over on the Masters of the Universe Origins Fans Facebook page showing off the Mattel Masters of the Universe Origins 5.5" Trap Jaw figure as well Teela without her headpiece on and the classic looking packaging being used with the recently announced Battle Cat. While not confirmed yet, we think Trap Jaw might be slated for wave 2. These are on display at PowerCon 2019.

So what are people's thoughts on this new MOTU line? I've seen some people upset these are essentially replacing Classics at least for now. The thing to keep in mind though is Classics had a pretty full run and being this is a mass retail line it wouldn't make sense for Mattel to re-release all those figures again. Most MOTU fans would already own the main characters and not want to buy them again thus hurting sales right off the bat which in turn could cause retailers to quit carrying them. These new figures are also significantly cheaper at $15 a pop which also makes is more appealing over Classics at retail. I wouldn't be surprised if either Super7 eventually continues with more Classics once this line get going or I could even see Mattel bringing them back to retail eventually in some way, perhaps when or if the movie gets released and MOTU fever is at an all-time high and the new line has been well established.

Yay! Scareglow, everything looks freaking great. If all this stuff is really being released at retail then I'm all in, well not sure about the minis.

The motu mini had already been released before don't is it?

I doubt this line really hurts classics, which already has all characters done and redone. Updated vintage line is just great idea trying to bring together the best of both worlds. I am not even Motu fanboy but I think this line is just great idea.

I don't think its about Origins hurting Classics but I think Classics is on hiatus because they don't want Classics hurting this new line or more specifically competing with it as they try to get it off the ground. I think Mattel went the route of this new line for Mass Retail  as opposed to just bringing Classics to mass retail because most collectors already have the main characters for Classics which means they wouldnt likely buy them again at Walmart or Target, thus they wouldn't sell as well as a brand new line like this Origins one.  The lower price point for these Origins figures I'm guessing also make them more appealing for mass retailers to carry them.

I definitely want to go in this line & pick up a bunch of characters that I couldn't get via Classics, especially Trap-Jaw & Scareglow.

What are people even saying they'd want from the Classics line at this point? Repaints or rereleased figures? What's left to still make?

I think in general I like this line. The added articulation is a plus, I think the size and price are good too. With how many characters are in MOTU, if you collect everything at that Classics 7" scale, you're gonna end up with a huge amount of space taken up by MOTU, so this scale makes it a little easier to justify getting more than just a few characters. I especially like that we can get steeds and vehicles at this scale for the same reasons. Less real estate and lower prices.

If these actually show up at retail in decent amounts, that'll be the real deal maker. I've only seen Classics at comic shops or cons, but being able to walk into a Walmart at buy MOTU figures will really add to my enjoyment of the line overall. If they rerelease these characters with the animation aesthetic, then I'd be all in, but as is I'll still pick some up if I can find them.

Since I’ve yet to get my hands on any I can’t say for sure, the size difference and overall style doesn’t really bother me. I will say the headsculpts on some I find a little iffy like with Skeletor, that open mouth looks horrid and man at arms I think could use some improvement.

We, the old fans of the Masters of the Universe toyline love this new origin Toyline. PLEASE Mattel, PLEASE bring back the old Card design and Box art of the old vintage toyline with the star like New-Logos, Horde , snake men logos and all the great artwork from the old days!!! This is what the fans want!!!! Because packaging design and box art is so unbelievable important!!! We will freak out if we get all the old packaging design and box art (redesigned), please do it for the massive fans worldwide and the success of the new origin toyline!!! The box art from Battle Cat is just awesome and vintage like (exactly the right way)!!!

If this will come true for the fans be absolutely prepared to do massive overtime to produce enough toys for us!!!! We would buy tons of this great stuff! The fans today don`t buy a single Figure today, the buy complete seller cases of each figure, vehicle and playsets!

And last but not least please bring it to the local dealers worldwide.

@UltimateThanos
Yes, I hope that the line will be successful enough for us to have a good number of figures, personally I already have my doubts about that, I also wish that the packaging was less retro and more collector friendly, and yes, Mattel should improve the distribution of its products, this is one of its weak points and, apparently, it is also the one that has diminished its finances.

Not yet, that's Classics Grayskull.

That should be a new origin Grayskull castle, because I used to have the original and the one at that picture looks different inside... Different accessories an even the elevator columns are different...

Hu, well, let's see what the unofficial official Mattel spokesman of anything MoTU releated has to say...

I really liked the Super7 retro line. They were making the figures in the exact style of the originals except for fixing the rubberband problem. Eldor and He-Ro were a dream come true and then they began to expand to She-Ra and Shadow Weaver. That was fantastic because you could continue to add to your vintage collection, and there are soooo many characters from TV, Movies and Comics that never made it in the Vintage toyline.

The Origins line is doing a weird combination of Vintage and Classics and it really isn't offering much, except maybe a shot at getting new vehicles or a playset. It looks like figures that we already have but then with modern articulation similar to figures that we already have.
