Henry Golding In Negotiations To Star In G.I. Joe Spinoff 'Snake Eyes'

Recommended Posts

The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Crazy Rich Asians star Henry Golding is in negotiations to star in Snake Eyes, a G.I. Joe spinoff centered on the popular Ninja Commando.

The project is currently in development from Paramount with Skydance and AllSpark Pictures with Robert Schwentke directing the project that has Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Brian Goldner among the producers.  Evan Spiliotopoulos wrote the script for the solo installment, which is said to center on Snake Eyes seeking revenge for his father’s death by joining ninja clan, in the process finding acceptance.

Snake Eyes is a NInja Commando that first appeared as part of Hasbro's 1980s toy line, G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero based off Marvel Comics.  He usually wears a black bodysuit, along with a balaclava and visor to cover his face.

Paramount has made two G.I. Joe movies — 2009’s G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra and 2013’s G.I Joe: Retaliation — with acrobatic actor Ray Park playing Snake Eyes in both.

Typical Hollywood... Take an original story and have to change it 100%.

Nothing again Henry Golding but Snake Eyes is not Chinese or Japanese.  Based on the comic book character, he is Caucasian with an athletic build, blonde hair, and blue eyes.

He also didn't join a Ninja clan because of the death of his Father.  His family was killed in a car accident and he accepted an offer to study the ninja arts with Storm Shadow's family, the Arashikage Clan.

Is it me or so far the plot sounds like a generic martial arts movie? I know China is a big market and Hollywood wants to cash in on it but come on this is GI Joe after all.

And that's why there will never be a good G.I. Joe movie. As long as the studios are willing to cut the very heart and soul of the movie away just to appease this group, that country, or such-and-such organization it'll never work.

The ONLY reason I’d be ok with a snake eyes movie is if Hasbro makes action figures of classic G.I. joe characters in a 6 inch scale.

I’m aware that won’t happen but Man, that’s my dream!
