Super7, the San Francisco based toy and pop-culture lifestyle design house is pleased to announce the launch of MLB x Supersports by Super7. Supersports takes Super7’s passion for toys and pop-culture, pairs it with their design driven aesthetic, and applies it to the world of sports, launching this exciting line of products with a new licensing agreement with Major League Baseball. Featuring iconic MLB players and teams, the collection will highlight 3.75” ReAction Figures from the New York Yankees, San Francisco Giants, Brooklyn Dodgers and Boston Red Sox.

The 2019 Supersports MLB product line debuts today, August 1, 2019, releasing several figures per day by team and including pieces commemorating baseball greats like Willie Mays, Jackie Robinson and Ted Williams as part of a larger collection framed up by two of the greatest rivalries of the game —Boston Red Sox versus the New York Yankees, and San Francisco Giants versus Los Angeles Dodgers.

The list of athletes featured includes: Madison Bumgarner, Carlton Fisk, Carl Yastrzemski, Joe Dimaggio, Juan Marichal, Mickey Mantle, Orlando Cepeda, Posey, Roy Campanella, Ted Williams, Willie Mays, Yogi Berra, and the 100th anniversary for Jackie Robinson who is being celebrating the entire 2019 season by MLB.

“Growing up, the first thing I ever collected was Baseball Cards. When I was seven years old, my uncle sent me a complete box of 1978 Topps Baseball Cards for Christmas. I opened every pack and sorted them by team, and then by number, and then back by team, and number and so on for months. I loved these baseball cards, and I want to bring that same emotion back to the figures and packaging we are making for our Supersports MLB ReAction figures. Something that brings you back in time, brings you a bit of unexpected joy and brings a smile to your face.” said Brian Flynn, Super7 Founder.

I dunno man.  Don’t get me wrong, it’s a cool idea for a line.  I can totally see these at Target.  I’m just one of the few that doesn’t get the hype surrounding super 7.  With all of the amazing stuff available for us, I don’t think $15 5poa baseball figures are a priority, especially from a company like super 7 that only sells direct to consumer.  I think this line would thrive at retail for $9.99 a piece.

Stuff like this and the Peanuts line makes you wonder if Super7 is trying to get the non collector crowd in on this. People who don't buy toys or action figures, but do like baseball or Peanuts in general. If you're of a certain age that you'd feel nostalgic about the original of the original Peanuts or Babe Ruth, are collectibles really the way that you'd want to express that passion or nostalgia? Anything's possible. Just seems a pretty niche thing to focus on in an already niche community. I don't know if I'm communicating my thoughts clearly enough, it's just an odd choice.

This.

And if they are so gung-ho on getting that non-collector market, then the direct-to-consumer outlet is not going to work.
