Remembering The Legacy Of Ralph McQuarrie

Remembering artist Ralph McQuarrie (1929 – 2012) on what would have been his 90th birthday. It's tough to say what Star Wars might have looked like without his designs. Anthony Daniels has said it was his painting of the droids in the desert that helped convince him to take the role of C-3PO. 

I remember being facinated by the trading cards featuring his work, before I even realized just what role he played in the creation of the film.

And his work is still having an impact, being brought to life in the forms of toys and collectibles, as well as his concepts being repurposed in Star Wars Rebels, The Force Awakens, and beyond.

I've been in love with this guy's work for decades now.  My older brother had some of the "Space Paintings" trading cards stashed away, and gave them to me when he got older.  A few Christmases ago, my wife got me the Ralph McQuarrie Star Wars art book, which in reality is two extremely large art tomes.
I really wish Hasbro would do a 6" black series set with McQuarrie's Boba Fett, Storm Trooper, Snow Trooper, and Boba Fett.  I'd also just be super happy with a 6" figure of his Boba Fett, which I guess from the neck down is Joe Johnston's Boba Fett, but that helmet...I think I love that helmet more than any design in the entire official Star Wars canon.
