The New York Post is reporting the new company, Tru Kids, that is the holder of the Toys ‘R’ Us brand and related assets is planning to reopen an undefined number of physical retail stores in time for the 2019 holiday season. The stores are said to be smaller than the original stores at around 10,000 square feet in size.

This move follows the very modest Geoffrey’s Toy Box pop-ups that we saw at Kroger grocery stores late last year. Hopefully the stores will be a lot more ambitious. No word on when or where thet will open. Stay tuned for more updates on Tru Kids as they happen. Read the full article now at New York Post.

I'll believe it when I see it.  And yeah, 10,000 does seem pretty small.  That's only about twice the size of a basketball court.

They need right profitable strategy this time, I'm pretty sure due to this there's not that much need of giant spaces, which by result are wasteful and costly, they should know what people want and what really sells in order not to repeat fiasco, smaller scale will make things much more easier for them.

I'm not holding my breath, let's see if they learned from their past mistakes first. Also we have to see how much their absence affects them. My Target shortened their space for books in order to make space for bigger toys like Power Wheels and stuff like that; I was told this was done in order to try and fill the void left by Toys R Us. Another thing they have to work on is their online store, they didn't exactly had the smoothest of websites and in this day and age having a strong online shop to stay competitive. Starting out small and testing the waters seems like a step in the right direction but they still have a long way to go.

Absence making the heart grow fonder is the biggest thing they have going for them.  Hopefully they offer more competitive pricing.  There wasn't a point in supporting TRU when WalMart across the road had the same figure for $5 cheaper.

I'm hoping this new TRU will do more for action figure collectors like myself. It'd be nice to be able to walk into a toy store and find DC Collectibles or DC Multiverse figures on the racks instead of having to go through Amazon or any of the other online stores that sell action figures.

If it's anything like it still is up in Canada good luck. Still issues with stock, still dealing with the scalpers / resellers rushing stores first thing in the morning and taking everything or hiding it for later, still bad service. As nice as it is to stroll around the place now and then it's still really lacking. Not just for adult collectors but the kids too.

Hmmm.... that’s interesting.  The only expansion I’ve seen at any of my Targets is a slight (very slight) expansion over in the electronic section where they stick all the NECA, McFarlane, and Funko stuff

TRU is going from Walmart sized locations to KB Toys size and that’s sad to me. It’ll mean not as diverse of a selection they normally had. Let’s hope we can all find something there this holiday season.

I think this is great news, when my childhood TRU closed a few years ago it made me a little sad. Now I'm not expecting these new stores when they do appear to be anything on the scale of past stores but I'll be  very happy to see a TRU open again in some capacity.

My local toys r us was over priced (like all others) and they never stocked with new products. I went out at midnight for force Friday when the last jedi was coming out and the toys r us literally got nothing other than new Lego star wars products. No 3 3/4 figures no black series nothing. They never got there marvel legends 2 packs that were exclusive to them, if I got them I need to order them online or buy them second hand on Ebay. I had fond memories of toys r us when I was a kid but as an adult collector I always hated hearing that a cool figure would be a tru exclusive. Wasn't super sad to see them go not really excited to see them return.
