Netflix today has announced they will be airing a new anime series in 2019 based on the Mech vs Monster fighting Pacific Rim franchise. Returning to the epic battle of Kaiju and Jaegers, this original anime series will expand upon the story of the first two live action movies and follow two siblings - an idealistic teenage boy and his naïve younger sister - who are forced to pilot an abandoned Jaeger across a hostile landscape in a desperate attempt to find their missing parents. Co-showrunners: Craig Kyle (Thor: Ragnarok) and Greg Johnson (X-Men: Evolution). Production Company: Legendary Entertainment (Kong: Skull Island; Pokemon: Detective Pikachu).

This seems very interesting. I can't wait to see the animation style.

I think Pacific Rim will work well as an anime if executed properly. Hopefully they don’t implement the usual anime tropes. Just focus on providing solid animation with an interesting story.

Hmm, this should prove interesting... I’ve been thinking, all the while watching this season’s ‘SSSS.Gridman’, about ‘Pacific Rim’, with its giant mecha-on-kaiju aesthetics. So, color me fairly well intrigued.

Is Gridman streaming on Hulu or Netflix? I loved the hero and kaiju designs from Superhuman Samurai Syber-Squad in the 90s.

Agreed, it’s a great concept when executed properly.

Sadly, I’m not sure... I only tend to watch anime through things like Crunchyroll, or Funimation, or other streaming sites. If you have either of those though, I’d definitely look and see if it’s on them. It’s a fun series.
