Arrow star Stephen Amell posted this image of Superman (Tyler Hoechlin) wearing a black suit for the upcoming CW Arrow-verse Elseworlds crossover.

The crossover will start with The Flash on Sunday, December 9th, followed by the storyline continuing on Arrow on Monday, December 10th, before the conclusion on Supergirl on Tuesday, December 11th. No appearances by DC’s Legends of Tomorrow or Black Lightning but we'll see the introduction of Ruby Rose as Batwoman. In addition, Tyler Hoechlin will be returning as Superman and Lois Lane will be making her first time appearance, played by Elizabeth Tulloch.

Hmm... Bummer. I was hoping to see him back in the traditional blue and red. I guess maybe they figured, since fans were ‘robbed’ of this suit aesthetic in Justice League, or whatever, they’d do it in the crossover. Meh.

Maybe it’s the lighting or angle, but he looks kinda small for the Superman role. Don’t expect him to be jacked, but Superman has always had a presence.

That was something that struck me, back when they first announced his appearing in Supergirl... To be fair, I thought he was supposed to be Superboy! But, next to Melissa Benoist, he worked relatively well enough. Next to Gustin and Amell in that photo, maaan, he comes across even more as a pseudo-Superboy, not Superman. Unless it’s some weird, fish-eyed lense, forced perspective, lol.

The suit looks cool. I wonder if they will go with Crime Syndicate or something like that.  Whatever it is is some twisted version of the world we are used to.

Physically, this guy doesn't do it for me as Superman but his performance is really good, more like the classic optimistic Superman I know and love which is a nice contrast to the DCEU version. I try not to hold it against him too much Christopher Reeves, Dean Cain and Brandon Routh weren't really buff and I still enjoyed aspects of their Superman performances. Henry Cavill has the ideal Superman physique but I don't like his take on Supes or at least the Superman the writers wrote for him.

Berlanti likes to say that in his mind his Supergirl universe is inspired heavily on that of the Donner movies, so that is why you see some resemblances performance wise.
