Back in September, we reported that Shane West would be playing a villainous recurring role on the upcoming fifth and final season of the Batman prequel drama series on Fox.  Producers have now confirmed that West will be playing Batman villain Bane. The announcement was made at Sunday’s New York Comic Con panel.

West, will be introduced as Eduardo Dorrance, who served alongside Jim Gordon in the Army. Dorrance returns to Gotham and offers to help Gordon bring law and order to the crime-ridden metropolis with a team of elite soldiers. But Gordon soon realizes that “Dorrance’s true intentions in Gotham are much darker and more evil than he could have believed.”

Fox also released the first teaser trailer for Season 5, which comes at the tail end of the following sizzle reel.

UPDATE:

For the fifth season of Gotham, we'll see the return of Zsasz, Mad Hatter, Scarecrow, Hugo Strange — and Penguin will have a dog! There will also be some new villains added into the mix including Magpie.

It was also revealed that Bane will break Alfred’s back this season.

The new season will be set a decade and Bruce Wayne will have his first real-life encounter with a large swarm of bats and in turn, we will be treated to seeing Batman for the first time in the series finale.

This all sounds great, definitely enjoyed the early seasons of Gotham, despite Gordon constantly growling.

I have to admit that I’ve never watched a single episode of Gotham... And, I really find the concept, Batman villains wreaking havoc in Gotham, before Batman is even a thing, really strange. It kinda doesn’t make sense to me. That’s not to say that these villains just suddenly appeared the same day Bruce first donned the cape and cowl. But, I dunno. Maybe I’ll sit down one of these days and take a look at it.

It’s best to look at it as an Elseworld storyline. If you try to fit it into the grand Batman mythos, you’ll do your self a disservice. It’s far from perfect, but the first couple seasons are very entertaining. Alfred and the Penguin are awesome, but the Wayne kid is annoying to me.

I’ve heard a lot of good things about Alfred, especially seeing as he’s the son of one of the former Doctors in Doctor Who... So, I’ve been somewhat curious to see his work on the show.

I agree. You can that the stories as canon. Some seasons are very slow, but overall the show is very good.

Interesting to see more information about the final season. but...full of spoilers man!
