It would be mad cool to see, when you figure out what kind of venue you want to show it off in... Bargain customizing, I would think, would be pretty popular. ?

Here you go, I just took this, with the flash and glare it doesnt look as impressive as in person lol but yeah basically I hated that ugly olive color the stock body had and I looked at a bunch of pictures of the hulk from Thor Ragnarok. It really is hard to pin point exactly what color he is because the lighting changes his color dramatically even in this photo he looks more like the color of the Diamond Select hulk but in person his color is much softer and blends a lot more its very strange. But anyways, yeah I'll have to find a place I can put up some photos or videos of all my customs because I don't think the Robocop topic page is the right place to do it ?

Well I see your point. DST and NECA deliver amazing products that are affordable. But tehre is a little catch. Sometimes they go for products that don't sell well or  they don't sell at all just for the fans to be happy, on the other hand Neca for instance, reuses a lot of the Predator and Alien molds and just add parts. Those sell a lot and like Randy Falk said it's their bread and butter. They went for the Heroes of the Storm for a while and after 3 or 4 waves they canceled it because of sales. I was very bummed out, because I was collecting those and didn't even get the last wave, because it never got here.  They are always trying something new and if it goes well, awesome if not, they cancel it. But they try. Bottom line is they make easy to sell stuff to afford the possible losses of those items that don't sell. That is a small scale.

Hasbro is different. It's a huge company, with lots of licenses and they also do something like that, but at different scales. Like I said it's hard to get product here. So when they release wave after wave like it happened this year, people here go absolutely crazy. And the price is way higher than what you guys pay.

I consider myself a wanna be completionist, I want to, but can't afford.  And I don't really collect legends like you guys. I buy those that appeal to me the most, except when amazing waves like the Apocalypse come along. I have made one of so called "mistakes" is collection that is spreading it a little too much. You just can't collect everything. I have like 5 parallel collections.  I also collect Selects  and I always ask myself how they manage to stay in the $25 range. But they also are increasing some figures like the bigger ones are going for $30 now. Still worth it. They production run is way smaller than Hasbro and the prices tend to go high fast once they start to sell out.

I think someone should ask Dwight about it. Maybe Jay will do that at NYCC if he is there, which I guess that he will because Hasbro will have a panel and some reveals. Also he is always there. Probably he will say no comment or something like that.

Anyway, being a collector in a budget is very hard.

Dude, there is a section on the page just to post customs!  Go tehre and show your work. I also think you should go for the videos; I would watch those.

I have a friend here that does just that. He gets the Titan Hero stuff and turn tinto statues. Breaks up the whole figure and reassembles it, sculpts what is missing and paint the whole thing. Looks like those DST PVC gallery statues. It's not exactly cheap by our standards, but is waaay less expensive that the actual statue and the plus is that you can commission it just the way you want, so when it's done, ypu have an exclusive piece.

I wish I have that ability.

I know, I just took a quick pic for sXeblues just to show I wasn't talking out my ass ? Unless you meant that I could post my stuff over there then yeah I thought about it. I've just been busy with a lot of things and I'd like to have things cleaned up a bit so I can take better pictures or videos but once I get that all sorted out I will post there for sure.

I tried customizing the a few Titan Heros but they are very stiff looking so I only do the 20 inch Jakks figures if I'm trying to make a statue but I dont go into that kind of effort of taking everything apart and applying primer and all that like your friend, I probably should but I'm lazy I guess lol

Yeah I have no interest in customizing just to resell, I just do it to challenge myself mostly.

That green is definitely a lot closer to what I would think of as Hulk, as compared to the olive color that dominates in most movie based product. Very cool, man!

Did you mean me — that I make money? Cuz, I wish that were true. I don’t even make customs. And the videos I do, aren’t monetized. I do have a Patreon-esque PayPal contribution url, but that has not been incredibly successful. I soooo wish that it was, mate. Believe me.

The first one is an all-time classic... You should definitely check it out, at some point.

I love Mafex and I really want to start having them on my shelf. Don't know where this would go in my collection though.

Some folks split up their collections into brackets, be it based on the manufacturer or specific toyline, where others just mix ‘em all together. I like to do a little of both. Especially if they all scale well together.

If I can ever get the actual color to show up on my phone I'll take a better pic but basically what I noticed when looking at my references was that the Hulk's skin literally looks like its radiating different shades of green which is why his color changes so often so I just went to town mixing all my greens and gave him so many different types of washes until he came out the way I wanted.

How come you don't monetize them? copyright stuff?

I generally put figures like this on my bluray shelf just to kind of represent the sort of movies I enjoy.

If I get the chance I will pick up just the one from the first movie.

I haven't seen the second one in a long time so I can't really comapre. The reboot had potential, but they managed to screw it up.

There’s a few different reasons... Copyright not being one of them.

It goes back a long ways, right as Google bought Youtube. I had fought the, at the time, forced transition to ‘Google Plus’, because I didn’t want my channel or content partnered with it. As such, I was one of the longstanding loners on YT for a while, which meant that, while everybody else suddenly had this wellspring of new controls and options, I wound up locked out of a lot of them. Even just posting comments. I had to go and create a separate channel, just to resond to the comments I was getting on my videos, when I didn’t feel like doing video responses to them — which is also something I did, for a while.

Monetization was one of the things that I was cut off from, as well. And, when finally Google relented, and made G+ a properly optional thing, it took a while for everything to set itself right with my channel, because it was still mostly operating on as close to the old system as possible.

Another issue coinciding with that, was the smartphone I was using at the time, might as well have been stone knives and bear skins, (that’s a Star Trek TOS reference, lol), because half of the functionality most people had, via more modern phones and computers, I wasn’t able to access.

Finally, after a very long time, and after a phone upgrade,  it all became available to me. And I found out that you’d have to go to every single video, one by one, to activate it. I don’t know if it still works like that, but I wasn’t about to go through 2,500 videos one by one, to activate it on.

The other thing was, I’d only ever been making content for the sheer pleasure of it. Even during financial ups and downs, I didn’t want it to ever feel like a business, nor did I hold any hope that it would ever actually be profitable. So, I chose not to.

Fast forward to the past couple years, and only very recently, as the financial woes have really compounded, and after years of friends and ‘followers’ asking whether I’d consider opening a Patreon or some such, I finally thought better of it, and created a PayPal contribution link, which essentially works like Patreon, though without all of the tiers and hullabaloo. Which answered to another aspect that was highly concerning to me; that whatever funds I would get, would go directly to me, and not be subject to Google’s penchant for changing up the rules and screwing the creator, as is very common right now.

That’s pretty much it, in a nutshell.

Those are another set of movies I'm going to have to add to my re-watch pile but I recall really enjoying all 3 of the originals. I'm pretty sure I don't even own the reboot though maybe I can snag one in a bargain bin somewhere ?

Well, please don't take this the wrong way but It sounds like the main reason is more a matter of pride than a not being able to. And I totally get that, I myself have the habit of choosing to take my own moral high ground even if it makes things harder on me. And its tough because I see people taking the easy way all the time and just seem to have everything they want with very little effort and its BS lol

I will say though that after talking with you for awhile you seem like pretty cool dude and very knowledgeable and passionate about all this stuff which really does show compared to the majority who are just phoning it in for a paycheck. I mainly bring this up because I noticed in many of your posts you mention your financial situation and how your lucky to even get a $20 figure. I think for a lot of people there is this idea that work is supposed to be hard and joyless and when it comes to youtube there are some people who feel like they don't deserve to get paid if their content isn't top notch. However, I think if your having fun and enjoy sharing your passions with other people then why not get paid for the work you put in? Especially if what you do is bringing joy and entertainment to other's as well. What if the difference between being broke or and having some disposable income was all determined by the push of a button? Anyways, just my two cents, I think everyone should be able to enjoy the things their passionate about.

I myself struggle with that. My field of work is not well appreciated here and the competition is fierce. To get a position they demand you to be top notch and for whatever reason you are not right now, that is your own fault.

I am currently trying to get back on the horse, but meanwhile I have to find something else to do. The thing is that the decision I make now will have repercussions for the rest of my life, so I tread lightly; I have recently watched a video that said that you can't follow your passion, but take it with you wherever you go. Sometimes people loose their time trying to find the dream job, while they can be good at something else that you never knew you were.

If you really want to make money, sometimes you have to change the way you think about life. If you just want to have fun and occasionally make a buck out of it, then I say:  By all means, go for it. .

Yeah for me I've watched my dad work his ass off pretty much non stop, everyday, at a job he hates just so he can provide for his family. I was also going down that road but instead I decided to move back home to help out and it really put a lot in perspective for me. I guess I'm lucky that I don't have my own family to worry about yet so I'm able to just focus on myself and my own dreams while I take some of the burden off my parents.

You have to figure out what is most important to you and what makes you happy and then do what you can to achieve that because that is your passion in its most basic form. Using me as an example, I like collecting, and all forms of media, one would think thats my passion but I don't feel like I relate most collectors so I had to think about why I liked these things and its because they are fun, they are pretty much the embodiment of imagination and creative thinking, they entertain, they inspire people, give them hope. Thats when I realized that what I'm passionate about is entertaining and inspiring people and bring out the youthful spirit that tends to get locked away as a person grows up. Now what I'm currently working on I have no clue how it will do and I don't really care how much it makes, I can always get a regular job if finances become an issue but for right now I'm just having fun for a change.

Damn, this Robocop thread also got hella deep ?

Yes! I guess we got carried away. So coming back to the topic, Do you guys own any Robocop figure? I Only have the Video Game version from Neca so far. I almost got that Figma version, but now like I said if everything goes well I will probably get only the Mafex Robocop from the first movie.

I appreciate the kind words, man... And, I think I would agree that, to some degree, I’m being a bit prideful with the content I produce. I’ve always been my own worst critic, as I think we all tend to be. Especially where it pertains to anything creative, or just having a discussion online, be it in videos or through forum posts like this. But, I think those harsher aspects are born out of the enjoyment I have for it.

I’ll admit, especially given my current financial circumstances, it has made me begin to reevaluate how I’ve been approaching the whole thing, up to now.

This sentiment definitely resonates with me... I kind of feel like that’s been my overall mission statement, in theory, just never actually being put into words. I tend to focus my time and my creative efforts on being positive. Because, life is short. And it does no good to spend all your time negative, hating things, et al.

The absolutely hilarious thing about that is, I actually had a guy just recently say that he didn’t watch my videos anymore, because I was too positive about everything. And it marked the first time in my history online, that I was referred to as a ‘shill’. Bearing in mind, that only very recently did I venture to open my content to any sort of financial support, to mixed results.

So, I guess that just proves that whatever you choose to do, you’ve got to do it for yourself and your own enjoyment first. Because it’s impossible, and counterproductive, to try to appease everyone else.
