BBTS got restock like 3 times, but they sold out very fast. It was the time that they where still shipping, but even then you could not see them at the Storm online store.

We could all start a petition. But not now, because I am still broke.

Storm sells out of their stock on their own website the day they put them up and they never restock either ? Its nigh impossible to get stuff off their website unless you are there at the right day and right time they put it up for sale.

This is exactly what is ruining collecting for me. Every time a new figure from any company comes out it feels like a damn Black Friday sale with old ladies beating you over the head with their purses. People can rarely save up for a toy now, they either have the cash or they miss out on the all together. You would think that if a company sees that their is a high demand for their product that they would make more instead of letting all the scalpers make all the real profit.

In a way this has been figure collecting as a whole for many years. If you dont grab the fig within 6-12 months of the time its released, you will never find it again for that price unless its a pegwarmer. After that it is lost to the ether or its price is jacked up to immeasurable amounts. Also its been like this for marvel legends since they first came out. The nice thing is nowadays the distribution for those figures are so well done that even if you miss a character in the initial run, you still have a chance to nab them later on. Scalpers have also been around since the start of the hobby, thats def nothing new. I have a bunch of stuff where I look at and am like, "if I lost that, I could never find a replacement of it even if i tried".

I think Storm in general is a rather small company and can only do so much to fill the demand. Give it a few years with how their pricing is and maybe we ll see wider distribution. The unfortunate thing is if you wait that long relying on that, you will miss out on what they do bring out before then. Also even big name companies like Hasbro still cant help when scalpers jack up a price to a high demand figure. I have seen instances where they have helped alleviate that problem by doing multiple runs of the same product and also bringing out a revamped version of it in a more widespread fashion. The Archangel set thats coming out comes to mind in that example. Storm cant keep up with the demand even if they are bringing out alot more properties. I also dont think they realized what they had when they initially released their first run of stuff.

Funny thing is if Storm just gave up on the bloody versions then I think everyone would be happy because technically all the characters are still available, its just that nobody wants red splotches on their figures lol

LMAO — Yup, that’s why I thought better of the suggestion, as I was making it. ?

That’s my collecting life, in a nutshell... More often than I care to admit, I’m lucky if I can ‘window shop’ for a lot of the high end goodies that are gone before they even ship out.

As much as I hate it I really think chase figures are the way to go instead of all this exclusive nonsense. Imagine if the bloody version was randomly added to a select amount of figures that were set out then everyone would be trying to get those instead and anyone who just wanted a normal version would still be able to. It only started to get bad when companies started making their chase figure an entirely different figure altogether then everyone was pissed.

Chase figures dont work if you are a small company and can only sell them online. It defeats the purpose of a chase if you cant chase them. But I know what you are saying. Variants should be more rare than the regular versions. Storm has it backwards with their current exclusive stuff. Personally Ive always hated chase figures. People are so dumb about what figure is worth. I follow a Marvel Legends facebook group and every other post is "is this rare?" "whats this worth?" "is the purple haired psylocke worth more than the black?" and it gets really stupid. Some people only care about what their friggin collection is worth. That kind of takes away the whole concept of collecting. You dont collect to resell, you collect to have and keep. If the item or items grows in value over time, thats great. Also chases were such a pain to obtain.. and scalpers were even worse than they are now.

Yeah thats all I was trying to say. And really the only reason I'm for chase figures was because there were a lot that I could easily pass on. Take the Funko Pops for example, pretty much everyone can get the standard version of every character of whatever series they want at a decent price but if you want the exclusive pose, paint deco, costume, or whatever then you'll have to either be lucky or pay extra but in no way does it make you feel like you have to have the exclusive version over the standard usually.

I honestly can't think of a single reason why Storm would produce more bloody versions than normal versions, its more paint so it must cost slightly more to make, and they obviously are in far less demand.

That Psylocke thing irritates me. Everyone claims that the purple haired version is the rare one but that is the only one I ever see or get, all I want is the damn blue suit! I don't even know why they sell her like this. And yeah I've never once cared about how much my collection was worth because their are so many variables, some thing break, some things are upgraded or customized, damaged or worn over time. Sure things can become more valuable but just because something is worth a lot doesn't mean that someone else will want to buy it. I've had exclusive and rare sold out stuff that I practically had selling at MSRP and people still didn't want it lol  What really gets to me though are the people who only collect and keep everything sealed. I knew a guy who collects crazy expensive statues, import figures and statues and hot toys among other things and all he does after he gets them is store them in a storage unit. Doesn't look at them or inspect if they are broken or have defects cause that would require breaking the seal, it baffles my mind ? I can understand keeping certain things in the package if you know its rare or you plan on reselling but whats the point of collecting if you can't enjoy the actual thing your collecting? I can only think that Its like you said, people just want to feel like their collection has worth rather than actually enjoying their collection the way it was meant to be enjoyed.

I almost feel like these exclusives or more time exclusives than they are actual exclusives to the con. I feel like after the con, they will go up on sale. However as I say this I see that BBTS put up the Ermac regular version for of course $90 soooo Im very much likely to be wrong about that. It does boggle the mind why they would do that and im sure the very vocal fans are giving them what for in their comment sections.(hopefully it has an impact so they dont do that anymore). If I have to pay out the ass for any of the Cybers instead of getting them at retail, I will be beyond annoyed.. Altho they couldnt simply just add black splotches all over them and sell that.. or would they?.. hmm.

I hate that there is even a debate on the psylocke shenanigans. Its just like Mysterio... its not a variant, its not a chase, its a running change. Hasbro didnt realize their fugg up until after a bit of the shipment was already pressed. The black hair is the rarer form however ive heard others say the other way around.. I think it was distributed very randomly and so we see alot of different results. I need the purple hair so i can swap out my blue suit head with that one.. and maybe may the other as an Xforce like version. I rarely see any of the apoc wave out in the wild.. most have been just online. From my experience selling some of my collection off over the years, most of our #$## is not worth anything. Its the main main things that are worth something and even then its not like absurd amounts of money. If someone was worried about the worth of their collection, its very subjective. It all depends on who would pay that amount. Alot of stuff I thought would sell that was supposedly worth something barely sold or i lost money out of the initial purchase years prior.

There are alot of Mint on card collectors out there and honestly I can sort of understand the concept but at the same time they are not enjoying the product they bought and only like the window that they are displayed in. Its like buying a car to just look at it and never drive it. But at the same time they could easily get their money back or for the most part by reselling it back.. Keeping statues in boxes is just insanity. They are literally figureheads to place on mantels and whereever to just sit there in their default glory. Some people just do weird things with their money.. or have too much money to burn. When it comes to moc items, yeah sometimes the box is nice and ive had a few things ive kept in boxes but its like 5% of my collection at best. This debate is also been on that facebook group as well. There are surprisingly alot of moc collectors out there. I almost think its kind of a psychopathic type take on it but at the same time I can also view why they like it. They are all just momentos or things that sit there taking up dust.. but most at least you can do cool ass poses and photography with. Most moc collectors are collecting for the worth. They want to keep the option to resell their valuables at some point. Or they just dont want to do the deep dive of opening them up and like how they are displayed like a friggin toy store. Ive seen peoples displays that literally look just like that and thats how they like it. *shrugs* to each their own i suppose.

This thread suddenly got deep.

I'll be pissed if they do that with the Cyber ninjas, I'm actually shocked that they didnt just make Shao Khan and Goro exclusives instead of the ninjas tbh and neither of those are even sold out and they look amazing. I bet the Con Smoke and Rain will be available for awhile, they aren't that well known plus this may be a dickish thing to say so I apologize but since there seems to be so many people who missed out on Scorpion and Sub-Zero then maybe that means not many people will try completing the ninjas if they can't even get a  hold of the main two. ? But in all seriousness that could possibly be why Ermac and Noob are still available at most retailers.

I'd like to get a blue Psylocke eventually but I'm not in any rush, I'm sure once the craze dies down both will be easy to find. The female ML don't seem to sell that well at my local Walmart and Targets, hell most of the time I just see a torn up box with the BAF missing...

Maybe I'm one of the rare ones who still have the mind of a child in terms of collecting, I play with my toys, I still imagine different scenarios and all that. I collect all the characters because they are supposed to be together not because I want the satisfaction of knowing that I own the entire team or whatever. The Avengers need all their members, the Justice League needs all their members. You can't have all the good guys without all the bad guys. The little annoying guy can't be left out cause hes still part of the team too. Well I have to get this vehicle otherwise how else will they get around? I have to get this playset, this is their base. Wouldn't it be cool if I had everyone fight this huge monster.  This is the type of stuff I think about when I buy a figure and I don't think it has changed much since I was a kid. Hell if I wasn't self conscious about my ridiculously hot neighbor seeing me in my backyard playing with my toys in the grass and making forts and rivers and epic little scenes I probably would lol

It’s exactly this kind of mentality that made me fall out of love with comic collecting... The early to mid 90s, around the time of ‘The Death of Superman’, comic books were booming. The sales were going so through the roof, I remember comic shops having to turn buyers away, because they sold out of their stock. And my uncle was a proponent of snatching up anything and everything that ‘might be worth money someday’, touting how much an original Superman #1 went for at Sotheby’s, or whatever.

But, that wasn’t my bag... I wasn’t interested in comics to primp up some mid-life nest egg — which, never would’ve panned out anyway, if you even remotely followed the roller coaster ride, financial ups and downs of the genre.

Same with action figures, now... Although, my love for them makes my former interest in comic book pale in comparison. I hate, loathe and despise a lot of the tenets of being a collector, as we see it today. Because, all I really want to do is collect the characters and figures that I personally want. The things that I have either an interest innor an attachment toward. Of course, some of those things coincide with high end, premium, adult collector product, which is usually hard enough to get, as it is. Before you even consider exclusives and BAFs and chase figures. It is monotony exemplified.

But, it also is what it is. And, if you love the medium, and still want to collect within it, to some degree, you just have to bare with it. And boy, do I, lol.

But, I think you guys also raise a good point that some of these companies have the whole chase / exclusives thing, backwards. I dunno what it’s going to take to open their eyes and make them shift to a more consumer friendly market approach, if that’s even something we can achieve. Doesn’t hurt to hold onto hope though, I guess.

Shao Kahn is truly amazing. I definitely do not regret spending the wad on that beefy mofo. I had anxiety in the thought of throwing down so many dimes to get him but he was so worth it in the end. Im glad they didnt make them exclusives but remember this trend of theirs is new and wasnt like that before. Also they gave bloody versions of them too so theres that. I can definitely guarantee Smoke and Rain wont be as highly sought after as Sub and Scorpion. However them being exclusives, they will still be grabbed to sell at a rape price. But they will be just like noob. They will sit on etailers websites and not sell out.. Who tf wants to spend NINETY GOD DANG DOLLARS on a figure they essentially already have for $50? Thats just ridiculous. I think the jacked up price is what turns people off, myself included. People will see the regular ninjas at $55 and be like wtf is Ermac $90!?! no thank you.

Well the running change for mysterio is extremely rare, let alone his figure in general is hard to find and sought after. I m not sure how Psylocke will end up being like. Female figures in general dont seem to sell all that great but Hasbros distribution is top notch so its very hard to NOT find the figure you are wanting most of the time.

Im not a completionist with my collecting. I buy the characters I love, the characters that I remember as a kid and from the cartoons and if the figure of that character turned out amazing, I just may snag them. Angela for example. I have no connection with her but damn if her figure isnt amazing. I dont so much as play with mine but pose them and admire the art and the characters they are. But everyone collects for different reasons. Thats pretty funny about your neighbor.. I would be self conscious too but you got to do what makes you happy. Because one day if your neighbor became more than that, they would discover your hidden dark secret... and then what would they think of you!!?!?!

Its the same mindset with card collecting. Once people realized there was money in it, people suddenly were like oh #$## i may have a rare one in my collection.. Im guilty of this perception as who wouldnt. Value and rarity didnt even come to mind when I collected them. I was alittle like that with comics as well but still only really bought them because i loved them but who couldnt think gotta get that #1, it may be worth something someday!

Honestly I love collecting cool #$## and the fact that these companies are making things i never thought id ever see let alone in high quality blows my mind. Its exciting and interesting to see what comes to fruition. I try not to get myself overwhelmed when it comes to all the things that are out there. I have a focus which lets me collect what I like and not stress over anything else.

Im hoping that Storm is just doing Smoke and Ermac as a one time thing and this doesnt happen in the future with other releases. If it does, WE RIOT! I m getting super anxious since NYCC is a week away. Im hoping my buddy can snatch them up for me and it would be insane if they have noob and/or scorpion there too. And then Goro in November.. aww man.. exciting stuff.

Oh yes, I remember card collecting being just as big as comic books were, at the time. One or two shops I went to had half their stores dedicated to cards. Baseball, and otherwise. I never really got into card collecting, but I still remember having a few, in my youth. I don’t really recall how I even got them, in some cases, lol.

I won’t lie, I know that I was influenced to a degree to pick up a few #1s under the guise of collecting them for their eventual worth. And, I vividly remember paging through Wizard Magazine and the Comics Buyers Guide for a year or two, charting and following whether those few I’d bought were moving up the latter or not, as taught by my uncle, lol.

I am all kinds of amped to see what else they’re going to be showing at NYCC, for sure. I hope it pans out for you, having your buddy grab those for you!

Shao Kahn is an awesome figure and by far my favorite from the MK line, for SF I'd probably say Zangief. But I stand by my theory that I doubt the con ninjas will sell out anytime soon. And until you mentioned it I always thought their default price was actually $89.99 so I've been prepared to pay that price from the beginning so even though I hate the inflated price its still not enough to keep me from getting them still.

I was lucky enough to get the white Mysterio in my case and I have no interest in the green version so I'm good there. I feel like mainly ML collectors who have been collecting for awhile and die hard X-Men fans are the ones who want Psylock. I doubt the average kid who walks through the toy section even knows who she is. It actually seems like the casual ML fan generally collects MCU figs over the comic versions with the only exception being the Spider-Man waves.

I don't really care that much. Its more of as a 32 year old I know I should typically at least try to act my own age lol And I've never once kept my hobbies or childish nature from the people I've been with. I've read so many horror stories from collectors who's wives prevent them from buying certain things, making them have to choose between sex or buying a toy, getting pissed and tossing their stuff in the garbage, secretly selling their stuff on ebay, giving their collection away to the neighborhood kids. I just make sure that whoever I date knows who their dating before anything gets too serious so that's never really been a problem.

I still play Yu-Gi-Oh occasionally but I stopped collecting due to them constantly releasing and updating their cards and play styles and then releasing the older rarer cards. Anything that is expensive and rare now will become common in a year or two. So now if there's a card I want I'll just buy 3 commons for a dollar on ebay lol

Well Noob was the SDCC Exclusive last year, Ermac SDCC this year, Smoke and Rain are the NYCC this year so its definitely not a one time thing but hopefully they do decide to change the way they are doing these exclusives in the future.

Haha yeah Im feeling that right now. :D I havent bought a single Storm SF fig due to the fact that they arent as rare and I have a whole set of SOTA SF figures.. also cant afford both sf and mk figs so i go for the things that are less likely to get another figure of. Zangief of all that line looks the best and most amazing. Hes definitely one I would love to afford to grab. Akuma is my favorite character and I make it a point to collect everything I can of him when I see it. I hate his SFV look but I really want that nostalgia version but I keep going back and forth on it since the funds arent where they should be and im trying to make room for other more demanding figs. Oh wow. Who do you have of their MK line? I take it just Noob?

I thought the green version looked stupid. It boggles my mind that people preferred it over the white. The whole concept of Mysterio is a mystery. I dont like seeing some green glob skull head through his mask. The white was just subtle enough to blend but also have a nice silhouette of a face. Most kids that I know dont go after female figures but also these are designs of characters from the 90s, 30 years ago. Also Hasbro has made a point to make Marvel Legends more of an adult collector line but also viable for children as well. They no longer have action features like toybiz loved to do and articulation and aesthetics are intertwined almost perfectly now. I loved toybiz but they had alot of ugly figures and was very segementy and ball joints out the butt. I especially hated leg ball joints. Thank god for MCU figures. It gives my wallet a bye wave or two. I only collect comic based so when they do a half wave with comics and the like its like a celebration haha. I find most collectors are either MCU all over, Xmen/spidey centric or just buys them all. Im a spidey/Xmen guy with a few exceptions here and there.

Yeah if your wife is like that, she was not worth having. Wives should already know what they are getting into and love you for who you are. Some people like to think they can change them. Its our hobby, its what we like. To do that is just friggin evil and selfish. I make sure they know who I am a well and not hide behind something Im not. I am forever a nerdy guy and nowadays its more popular to be that then when i was a kid. Nerd culture has seriously taken over the world.

I really only collected random stuff and sports cards my mom liked to buy me even tho i hated sports. I also had dinosaurs attack! which was a friggin messed up and awesome card series. I still have some of them around. My mom would always buy these massive sports card packs from like Sams or Costco. They literally meant nothing to me. Most of them stayed in their package for years after. But nowadays I dont collect any kind of card tho i miss that piece of gum in the packs hehe.

I suppose that is true about the exclusives. They only have so many ninjas to pull from to make exclusives tho. This is the first time they decided to make more than one an exclusive at a time. I was hoping they were just going to do the characters that really feel like theyd be exclusive material. Noob for instance since hes all black with some transluscency. I would think Chameleon since they could just do a unique transluscent plastic with multi colors, would make for a neat exclusive. Tremor because he was never in that form but to fit the whole concept of being one of the ninjas while also not alienating the already established fanbase of the original ninjas. Ermac didnt really make sense to be an exclusive as he is a kind of a staple nowadays. Smoke wouldve been my other guess for an exclusive as well. Its kind of like they are blowing their load on exclusivity since they dont have many more left to do in ninja form.

Damn, sorry I must have missed this.

I don't care for a lot of the SFV redesigns, like some are cool but its not one I'd pick to play as if I had the choice. And man do I want a Vega from Storm... And I have all the figures from Storm I believe except the NYCC ones.

I guess the reason some people like the green on Mysterio is because it pops more and makes him look more "mysterious"? I really don't know, I never liked being able to see the 3 heads on the Toy Biz either so I'm perfectly happy with my white one. And its funny because it seems like the "in" thing now is to collect all the 90s comic stuff. I've seen 15 year olds post reviews talking about how they loved the original animated X-Men show when they were a kid and it was on tv... So like.. they are either full of crap or their talking about watching re-runs on Disney XD lol

Oh and I've never been married lol but yeah I tell women how it is up front that way there's no complaining later lol And honestly, its never once been an issue and I've dated girls who weren't into comics and all that and all I got was "well your a guy, your supposed to like those types of things" lol

I used to get a bunch of baseball and football cards when I was really young and I thought they were cool but you can't really do anything with them so I got bored and they're probably still in a box somewhere in my garage lol

I'm really surprised by just how many NYCC exclusives there are this year, usually in the past most companies would just reused the SDCC exclusive. And I'll be honest, I really don't like this trend, there are a lot of different con exclusives popping up now along with twice the amount of retail releases and store exclusives. I had such a hard time this summer trying to get a hold and afford all the things I wanted. I even had to get a loan from my sister ? Also, I don't know about this year but last year the NYCC exclusives that did come out weren't even released online like BBTS, like that Mezco tiger stripe Wolverine or maybe that was just Mezco, their exclusives are ridiculously hard to get aside from the PX ones. I'd really like to get that Ronin Wolverine but I have a feeling the cheapest I'll see him will be like $300 which I wont do. I really hope the Storm exclusives go up online because like we said, they are actual characters not just costumes and theres no way I'm going to pay some scalper $300 for them, I'd rather just get the bloody versions and paint them clean myself.

Anyways, I was messing around on Prisma earlier while I was taking pictures so I thought I'd share a bit of my Storm collection. ?

You have all the SFV figures from storm or all of the MK figures from storm? or all of them in total? I do like some of SFVs designs for characters but not so much the drastic redesigns. Zangief for example is pretty much the same but I love how he looks and that figure is fantastic looking. Some others are not far from their original designs. I do love how Juri looks as well as Sagat. I hate that they turned Birdie fat but I get it, hes that fat anime archetype and hes still fun as hell to play. I could go on but those are a few examples.

I feel the opposite with the idea of seeing his head making him more mysterious. If you look at it, you can see whats under the helmet with such a high contrast with the green head. The white has very little contrast so you see bits and pieces... of something. I think they just like it because its rare and it blends with his green effects. I loved the toybiz one at the time only because it was the best mysterio that had been out there. I never really loved it and the idea of seeing the heads was definitely a bad thing. I also hated the shape of his oversized dome. It wasnt round, it was like oval shaped. and it made his body look super small in comparison. Also all the toybiz figures that have action features I despise. That trigger on their backs was awful. And wow kids are talking like that? I mean with social media, every person is trying too hard and trying to fit in and be like everyone else and hip. I dont like todays newest iterations and redesigns so I collect 90s because they, to me, are the epitome of what those characters were. That era and those designs were what got me into those properties. I mean you CAN still buy the dvds of xmen and spiderman shows. Or maybe their parents were hardcore comic nerds and they have them. idk..

I was referring to the hypothetical wife. I didnt assume you were married. Stating if the wife you choose doesnt know your habit and hobby and doesnt accept it then shes not worth having to begin with. I do the same, no point in hiding and i take pride in the schitt I like. Hell Id want a woman that would potentially share in that nerddom or at least be open minded to it. I actually just in the last year ran into the box of cards I had when I was a kid, not counting the ones from costco. Some super rando ones. Just a weird kid thing i guess however I did find my dinosaurs attack and holy crap that brought back some good memories. Thats something youd never see a kid have these days. If you dont know what dinosaurs attack is, its a morbid cards that depict if dinosaurs invaded this time and would eat people. Most of them depicted random things like dinosaurs attacking a classroom or eating the mayor. Some i remember had like alien dinosaur beings and other things. It was really dark but damn I loved them.

Most of the time we just see an exclusive per line. Storm has been all about busting out exclusives. I wonder if they just get alot of money up front that way. I dont know anyone that would like this trend except those con goers that go to EVERY one of them. or scalpers.

Those are great pics! I like doing prisma stuff as well. Altho I have the free version which has some weird slowdown and limitations. I dig your collection. I didnt know you got Ermac and Noob!? I really hope when my buddy goes to storms booth in NYCC that they may have some extra noobs and scorpions that he can get for me. Dig the pics man! I dont have a large storm fig collection otherwise id post it.. just kahn, reptile and subby.

Maybe it sounds crazy, but I’m actually loving that aspect of the forums... When I first signed up, it was admittedly for the contests Jay C had put up, a few months back. After those were all said and done, as I still continued to come on every day or every other day, this place was beginning to feel a little bit sparse, and somewhat desolate of a lot of actual discussion. So, to see the lengthy discussions going on now — and also being able to participate in them — is something I’m really enjoying. Even when I can’t speak as readily on a particular topic, seeing you guys going back and forth, is also pretty cool.

Wait til after the contests are over. It ll be like the gym in February. Only the loyals will be around. Ive been a member on here for a long time. I hadnt frequented it as often as I used to since the redesign and alot of the threads I used to comment on kind of died out. I tried to necro post one and its on its last pixel heart. I dont comment everywhere so I m not as involved. Just on posts that I really are all about. Im not one of those posters that are like OH COOL THIS IS NEAT or CANT WAIT TO GRAB MINE! When I post, I post a short story haha. Back in the day here for me it was like this. People would communicate and have conversations. I dont see the old faces on here any more and most are new comers that want to inflate their postings. Its kind of sad, however Ive been enjoying the conversations as of late.

They have some more unique sculpts coming. I think they just have to work out their kinks more. Liu Kang and Baraka were spotted at a few of the cons as well as the female ninjas and the cyber ninjas. They even showed an MKX Scorpion and an MK3 unmasked Sub Zero. They are of course trying to get most of their license by getting the palette swapped molds out sooner so they have "more" characters to make. Costs alot more money to make a unique sculpt than to reuse one multiple times. Just ask Hasbro! haha I cant wait for Sonya so I can have my victim of a fatailty ha. XD

It’ll be sad to see it slow down again, in that respect... Most of what took up my attention as I perused the forums after those initial contests were the custom figures and the Star Wars sections. And, any time new toy news comes up — this became my go to place for that stuff. Like a digital, social media Toyfare Magazine of old. I’d post my thoughts on whatever the new item or preview was, hoping that, by adding a bit of my personal tastes or sentiments, that would spark up a little convo. It did a little bit, here and there. But this has certainly been a groundswell, this time around. Oh sure, I’d like very much to win the contest. And, it’ll bum me out if I don’t. But, I stayed here cuz I liked it, without thinking another contest would probably come around — and not nearly as soon. So, win or lose, I’m still going to be here. As much as time permits.
