Robert De Niro In Negotiations For Todd Phillips' 'Joker'

[Outsiders]

Robert De Niro is in negotiations to join Joaquin Phoenix in Warner Bros.’ upcoming Joker stand-alone movie from The Hangover helmer Todd Phillips.  If a deal is worked out, De Niro would play a talk show host who is somehow instrumental in the Joker’s origin.

Phoenix is portraying the DC Comics villain in the movie with Phillips directing from a script he's co-written with Scott Silver.

I think this is supposed to fix the problem of boring villains so now they have stand alone movies to have a clear motive.
