Talk about Thor Ragnarok: SPOILERS

I just got back and I enjoyed it thoroughly. The story, action, and humor were all there. I thought the main characters, Thor, Loki, Hulk, Valkyre, were all used well. Thoughts:

Thor and Loki's relationship was played out very well, I liked all of their time on screen together.

The humor was good, a few really good laughs. If anything they may have pushed it a bit too far with Thor coming off as goofy, talking like a hip human being rather than a other worldly god of thunder. But I forgive this.

So much for the Warriors Three? Was that yet another actor playing Fandral for his 5 seconds of screen time? Siff.......?

Jane Foster was dismissed with one line of dialogue which is what typically happens with characters you can get by without.

Dr. Strange appearance was cool. I noticed he has yellow gloves now.

I did NOT notice Matt Damon. I had heard before going in that he had a cameo then promptly forgot to look for him. When it was over my wife asked if I liked Matt Damon in the theater scene. I totally didn't notice it was him.

Valkarie was a lot of fun as was Hulk.

I thought the music was great and unique.

I thought that after they released Surtor that things would reset, Ragnarok would be over, everyone would be alive again, and Thor would have his eye back. I was wrong. But I liked the ending none the less.

The second act on planet Hulk was all fun.

I'm pretty sure Loki took the tesseract and then Thanos tracked him down form there. So I'm guessing that's his ship that we see in the mid credit scene.

Very fun movie!

Not just Matt Damon, but Odin in the play was Sam Neill. Overall a fun movie. I agree on the humor being a tad bit much with Thor at times. And I believe Taika Waititi (or someone from the studio) has confirmed whose ship it is in the mid-credit scene.

Ooo, I wanted to see this one. Loved the first two Thor movies.

But when you have a film featuring a mythological Norse warrior god and a giant emotionally tortured rage monster, yet the director himself refers to the film as a "Buddy Comedy," or more than one site refers to the film as "Marvel's Funniest Film Yet," it sends up red flags. Not just for this film, but the MCU as a whole.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for humor in an action/adventure/fantasy movie, but it has to come organically from the story and characters. You can't just say "Hey, lets make this a funny Hulk."

Now, I'm not looking for a flame-war, not looking to trash this thread, or even this movie, just giving my two-cents. I think they're taking this movie, these characters, and this franchise in a completely wrong direction. It's douche comedy, its bad douche comedy, and it really doesn't work for the world they're trying to craft.

Once again, your mileage may vary. If you liked it, awesome. That's the whole point of the game, I'm happy for you. Me, I'll wait for the next one and hope for the best.

BTW: Is Sif even in this thing? I haven't heard anything about her. Now for a Jaime Alexander movie, I can forgive a multitude of sins.

I have a bit of a problem getting past that myself. Mythological. Norse. God. Yet he's talking like a quirky, human, 21st century American male. And yes, I know he's spent SOME time fighting along side humans, but still....That is my main gripe. It's tough to call for the humor to be toned down because I LIKED the humor in this movie, but so much of it coming from Thor?

I guess I don't know what a "douche comedy" is.....

Not even a mention of Sif in this movie. She's completely MIA. And to call the Warriors Three "cannon fodder" for this movie is almost giving them too much credit.

EXACTLY! Certain characters just don't lend themselves to this type of humor.

I agree the jokey Thor doesn't work for me, I can understand why they did it since the Thor movies are the least well received movies in the MCU so I guess they decided "what do we have to lose? let's make him into another Tony". Personally I prefer first movie Thor, they got it right the first time, I mean come on Thor hasn't been that long on Earth for him to be speaking like a regular guy but I'm already reading comments from people saying that they finally made Thor interesting so what do I know? Despite that gripe, I enjoyed and loved the movie it although I feel that the timing not the jokes itself were off. I loved the Jack Kirby influence in the movie's bright colors and I read that the walls in the Grandmaster's viewing were actual Kirby art blown up and put into the movie, it's good that the King is getting some recognition. I'm glad they limited the time spent on Earth in my opinion that was one of the downfalls of the second movie. I loved the Dr. Strange sequence that alone to me was worth the price of admission, I can't wait for these characters to interact in Infinity War. Tom Hiddelston is still great as Loki and him and Chris Hemsworth have developed a good chemistry where they are both great in the screen together although I wish they would tone it down with making Loki the butt of the jokes. I was skeptical when I first heard that the director who's a bit of a clown was voicing Korg but I found myself laughing whenever he was onscreen. Valkyrie was pretty cool I found myself enjoying her character more than I thought I would. Grandmaster was Jeff Goldblum being Jeff Goldblum depending on who you are that's either a good or a bad thing me I was indifferent to it. I feel Cate Blanchett really shined as Hela one of the better MCU villains so far, she was threatening and evil without being too over the top. I'm sad they kill off the Warriors 3 but I understand that they needed Hela to be a credible threat and it also makes me wonder if it had something to do with Phase 4 plans and Marvel cleaning house of characters they have no plans for, although I wished Heimdall would have been killed off I can't stand Idris Elba although if the after credit scene is any indication maybe Thanos will take care of him. I really liked the plot line of Thor realizing that he had to destroy Asgard in order to save and that action sequence on the bridge was all sorts of awesome. No Sif was a huge letdown and the fact that no explanation was given was a huge plot hole, I read that Jaimie Alexander had scheduling conflicts with Blindspot and apparently Marvel gave her a very short notice on when they were gonna start filming. It's a shame not only Jaimie is very attractive she's very passionate about the character besides the movie appearances she went to a children's hospital dressed as Sif and took gifts to the children plus she appeared not once but twice on Agents of Shield one of the few movie characters to have done so.

Yeah, I agree with pretty much all of what Belmont said. Still, I can't put this one in my top 5. Iron Man, Avengers, the first Guardians, Winter Soldier, and probably Spider-Man Homecoming in no particular order...

I read on another thread someone saying it was a shame they didn't explore the 9 realms enough in the Thor movies. That would have been a cool theme over the course of 3 films...maybe go to three per film....

I did spot a lot of Kirby influence in the second act and I appreciated that a lot.

I read in somewhere she was difficult to work with. Of course, I never put any stock in those internet "He said/She said" gossipy BS articles.

She's obviously attractive, from her body of work alone it would seem she's fond of sci-fi/action/fantasy roles, she knows her way around a stunt fight, and she's not afraid to get her hands dirty. What more can you ask for? Sure it sucks wind she's not in this movie, but then if it were a choice between a cameo in "Thor and Hulk in ROAD to SAKARR," or another season of the seriously awesome Blindspot (see Yojoe, I don't hate ALL Berlanti's shows), I'll take Blindspot any day.
