RIP Herb Trimpe

Herb drew a lot of classic Marvel Comics including the issue of Incredible Hulk where Wolverine first appears. I don't have that book, but I do have a lot of old Marvel GI Joes in which Herb was the artist of the first dozen or so issues as well as many issues of the Special Missions series.

I got to meet Herb about 3 or 4 years ago at a comic con, very nice guy who graciously signed just about all my GI Joe issues with his name on it. He shared with me that he felt he was at his creative best when he was doing those early Joe books. I may have to agree with him on that. He also drew me a personalized picture of Cobra Commander which is one of my favorite GI Joe collectible pieces. I always hoped he would return to my area comic con again.

I learned of his passing on April 13th in the newest issue of GI Joe: A Real American Hero. "Old news" by internet standards, I'm surprised I went this long without knowing. Still....RIP, Herb Trimpe!
