RIP Robin Williams

Very sad whenever anyone chooses to end it like this. He was a great talent. RIP.

Sad...like a punch in the gut. I'm also feeling a great deal of anger towards him for taking the easy way out. His soul has a long journey ahead of it...he has my prayers...godspeed.

I know the movie on whole is a mess, but there was nothing wrong with Robin's performance as Popeye. A childhood favorite, and a guilty pleasure. Thanks for many great performances, and so many laughs.

Feat my friend...you've echoed the same reaction I've had. It's been such a shock for me. I guess I didn't realize just how much I truly loved the man and his work. Sometimes you take the greats for granted until they're gone. Several years ago, when Princess Diana passed away, it really shook my wife up. She was truly devastated, and she wasn't even aware she had such feelings of admiration and interest in her until the tragic accident that killed her. She watched every news feed and devoured everything she could get her hands on in print on the subject, and I guess I didn't fully understand her reaction until just now with Mr. Williams's death. I'm just so stunned, so disappointed, and so very saddened that this happened to someone that brought so much joy and entertainment to so many people...

I've been in some pretty dark places mentally and emotionally in recent years, but I don't know that it's ever been so bad that I wanted to take my own life. I just couldn't imagine what that does to family and friends. It's almost like what you said feat, although I don't know that it's anger I feel towards the man, but...how bad does it have to be for someone to destroy themselves with no thought to what it might mean to their family? It's so very sad and unfortunate that someone can get to that point, and it happens every single day.

I saw a disturbing statistic on the news earlier this evening that said on average every thirteen minutes someone commits suicide, and that's simply mind-boggling. The fact that Robin Williams was a beloved and accomplished actor and comedian meant nothing in terms of his mental and/or emotional state of being; he was simply a man with a deep and dark pain in his heart that nothing could ease or take away. His comedic mania and subsequent dramatic performances must have been some sort of coping mechanism that naturally led him into his career, but ultimately, after all of the accolades and awards, all of the interviews had been given, all of the appearances and performances, at the end of the day, he was left to grapple with whatever tormented his heart and soul, and he just couldn't defeat his inner demons. As down and depressed as I have been at times, I just can't fathom being in such a low state that one would feel that death was the only solution. It's really put my own personal issues into perspective, and in a strange way it's encouraged me to know that as bad as I have felt at times, it could be so much worse, and things aren't as dark as they might seem. But you know, sometimes it just doesn't matter; life could be just about as perfect as one could expect, and there can still be darkness and depression in your heart and mind. I've experienced that myself, and my doctor has even acknowledged it reassuringly by saying that it's just a chemical imbalance in your brain, that sometimes you just simply can't help it.

And feat, I too loved Robin Williams in Popeye...not too long ago I found it on DVD, but I have yet to sit down and watch it. It's been years and years since I've seen it. I guess now's a good a time as any. Perhaps it will help me remember some of the good part of his life, the part where he shined and did what he was best at...making others laugh and smile. May God bless him and all of those that love him.
