Hey everyone. Was wondering something for quite a while. For the most part in the comic book universes, Superman's Cape has pretty much had a "S" Shield logo on the back of his cape. Of course, this depended on the comic book artist as well, which includes famous comic book artist Alex Ross, who tends to have his Superman being "S" less on the cape(From the pics I've seen). Many other media verisons(Like films, movies, T.V. shows, video games, etc.) have had the "S" Shield as well.

But in terms of other media(Like films, T.V. shows, cartoons, etc), it appears that since 1996's Superman: The Animated Series, a good chunk of those verisons of Superman have had his cape not having the "S" Sheild on his back. These include Superman Returns, Man Of Steel, the Bruce Timm DC Animated Universe(Batman: The Animated Series, Superman: The Animated Series, Justice League, JLU, Batman Beyond, etc), and pretty much all the Direct To Home DC Animated movies. I can't comment on video games because it's rare that I see a back shot of Superman. Plus, I don't play too often.

So I was wondering, do you guys prefer Superman's cape having the "S" Shield on his cape or not?

Personally, I prefer the "S" Shield, because it seems like to me, the shield saids that it's Superman's cape(Or at least 1 of his related family members or allies), not some random other hero's or villain's red cape. Not Thor's. Not Scarlett Witch's cape. Not Wonder Woman's cape(This depended on the artist or colourist). Not Gladiator's Cape. Not Dr. Strange's Cape. Not anybody else's, but Superman's Cape. It's iconic.

I'm assuming the cartoons for the last little while don't have the "S" Sheild so that it is easier for them to animated Superman's cape without it when it moves around without worries of how the "S" Sheild would look when it wrinkles up and what not. Having said that, I do think that for the Direct To Home DC Animated Movie Superman: Doomsday, they should of put the "S" Shield on his cape, especially for that iconic moment when the cape was stuck/wrapped around that rod. I think the image would of been more powerful at that moment in the movie in a visual aspect if it had the "S" Shield so that you know it was Superman's, and not some random other hero's cape.

I also find it ironic that for the Superman Returns costume, it has all these little "S" shields sculpted on the blue part of the suit and the "S" Shield on his chest, and I think the bottom of the boots had it too(According to the 5.5" figures from Mattel), but not the back of his cape, because Bryan Singer had some belief that the "S" Shield shouldn't be too showy(Or something like that. I forgot the exact reason, but I assume it's similar to why he had the "S" Shield smaller on his chest).

Anyways, I hope you guys vote, as this has been something I've been wondering for quite a while.

I guess I personally don't care either way. I voted "for".

As for the no S on the Returns Supercape... I read Singer left it off because they "couldn't make it work" after much trying. I found that weird because you can basically make or animate ANYTHING these days.

The Singerman suit was overdone with S's though. I mean did he really need that S belt thing?

It doesn't bother me. I know in comics it's cool to have an S at the back so it doesn't feel blank and boring when drawing Superman not facing the readers. But when you animate Superman such as in cartoon or live action, it's hard to make the "S" visible. I don't that it's that essential to the character.
