SOUTH BEND CLASSIC TOS ENTEPRISE

Hey Folks,

Need your perspectives. Years ago I found a MILTON BRADLEY SOUTH BEND ENTERPRISE toy. Bear with me. Its a great toy, its based off of the first ST TMP ENTERPRISE. It can be reconfigured in a number of different ways to create other ships: SCOUT, TUG, EXP I, EXP II, CONSTITUTION classes. Some of these designs are based off of FRANZ JOSEPH's designs from the STARFLEET TECHNICAL MANUAL.

Years ago, I had Alfred Wong commissioned to make a CLASSIC SOUTH BEND ENTERPRISE because to me, you could then enjoy those designs. Also, I thought it would make a great toy.

Needless to say, nothing happened, but that's okay, my ideas worked and I got to see it come into form. Im cool with that.

With the advent of the new STAR TREK, trek is popular again and folks don't really stigmatize the crap out it. With R2 coming out with a bunch of classic ST, I figure, why not try again.

I was hoping to see this go to the form of a toy, not a model, but I guess it could be done for both.

With the great paint apps done by A. Wong, I could care less if this ship had electronics, for now, to me, just a simple toy that is component based and used to create other ships of the TOS era.

What do you like about it and not like about it? Could you see this on a toy shelf? Who do you think would make it?

Years ago, I had met with the ART ASYLUM ART DIRECTORY Manny, who was doing the very detailed 1701 refit, he had scores of photos showing the details of every aspect of the model. I had hoped ART ASYLUM would make this and possibly do a STARSHIP CREATOR line, but alas, that didnt go, but I did learn alot from Manny in the 6 hours that I had his attention. He presented me with questions and pros and cons. Its been over 12 years since I first thought of this idea and I had the model made over 4 years ago.

My goal is to keep it simple. The tabs will stay open, unless someone figures that uniform tab covers can had those slots. All of the tabs/slots are uniform in size. I made a few changes to make it more aesthetically pleasing and design accurate.

The great part about this is that the model can be reconfigured to reflect a variety of designs. I can see this with an accessories pack that holds two different connectors, a singular engine that can be placed on top or bottom (think scout class but able to mount dorsally) and tug cannister.

No electronics, good paint apps and a decent sticker sheet to make your own starship.

Here are the links, the first is the SOUTH BEND ENTERPRISE, the second is my first attempt at the idea and the third is Alfred Wong's version of my CLASSIC TOS SBE.

Im not looking for profit, I just think its a cool and fun idea and considering all the interest in Trek, thought it might actually work.

Here is hoping. If you dont like the idea, hey no worries, my hope is to just see it made as a cool toy but it is probably easiest to use the molds or modified molds of the old classic Enterprise--Im sure it does become costly but considering the love for this iconic design, this adds a new dimension to classic trek for those that dont have the skills to actually make a decent model.

Thank you for your time and your opinions.

The last two pics are of the POLAR LIGHTS TOS ENTERPRISE model that I used glue and legos to flesh out my idea of the SBE TOS ENTERPRISE. With different attatchments, you can change the design of your ship. I had hoped to make a slot for the dorsal section of the saucer to accomadate an accessory pylon that could attach an engine.
