Space Ghost 'Space Spectre' figure

Though I've liquidated most of my collection for now (and still getting rid of a few other things on the side), one of the gems (to me) I'm keeping is my Space Ghost figures. I have the villain Space Spectre (Space Ghost's mirror image) and he has a light-up fist feature that the battery is now dead. Here's an online pic I found:

 

 

I imagine the fist is removable somehow since the elbow bends, but I'm afraid of breaking it. Does anyone know a 'soft' way to get the fist off and change the battery without damaging the figure?
