Hasbro's Black Series 6" Figure Line

Recommended Posts

Those shadow figures are an easy pass for me. I think every toy brand has their own foot soldier type character that they can spray down in black paint, call them a shadow quad and make a quick extra buck. If they want to do that and if you like to buy that kind of stuff, that's fine. For me the line is too expensive to go outside of the OT.

As for figures I'd like...New Hope Leia and Grand Moff Tarkin would probably top my list. If any prequel character stood a chance with me buying it would be Count Dukoo, maybe Mace Windu.

I just have to throw my 2 cents in on this. One more time:   I will never try to convince anyone to like 5 POA if they don't. It's an aquired taste. But as far as pricing goes, they are at the sa

I agree w/the expensive add-ons but I'm still wanting the Johnny Cash Squad....who needs a Gold Superman repaint? bring on the Blackest Muther F'ers from that Galaxy far far away...when I get my squad....The Dark Stormy will be Johnny & the Dark Scout will be called June Carter....grand moff....Grand Moff??....I find your lack of faith in Clone Wars figs.....distasteful.....Dukoo isn't bad but I need an Jango Fett that would be next to impossible to find at retail made before we get drowned by Jar Jar Figs.....

I think I'm getting burnt out on the Black 6" line. Mainly because I told myself I'd just get the main characters... but really, who's a "main" character??? More like, WHO ISN'T A MAIN CHARACTER? I'd be like.. yeah, well, Slave Leia will work.. Then Jabba comes out... "I gotta have Jabba to go with Leia" then White Boba Fett comes out.. cause you know.. I gotta have him. Next thing I know, I have 4 Sandtroopers, 2 Stormtroopers, a handful of scouts.. and then Vader comes out.. Chewie.. and then it hit me, I'm not just getting the main characters, I'm getting them all and sadly, multiples of some.. cause you know.. I need to make Luke, Biggs and Wedge in Xwing gear.. Oh, look.. Greedo and Han 2pack.. yeah, I know.. they're just repacks, but look cool and plus, I don't have Greedo.. What's that you say? They're bringing out IG-88... Can someone say Bounty Hunter line-up...

sigh.. that's how my mind works... then I was going through my figures and half those I mentioned above aren't even opened and just stacked in the corner.. Do I really want to get sucked in again, in a more expensive scale.. I dunno.. sigh... checks email...

YOUR PILE OF LOOT WITH SDCC BOBA FETT W/ HAN & CARBONITE HAS SHIPPED...

I'm doomed, lol.

I set the same ground rules for myself and here's what I've decided:

Main characters are Luke, Han, Leia, R2, 3PO, Chewie, Vader, and maybe Lando and Emperor. I plan to get all of them in any version of outfit they choose to release. For guys like Chewie, Vader and the Droids I don't have to worry as much because they all only have one look (some people may count shaggy eyebrows ROTJ Chewie as being separate but I don't and likely won't be nit picking to that degree).

Then there's a few supporting characters that I feel are iconic enough to warrant me picking them up like Boba Fett, Tarkin, and Admiral Ackbar, I'll be grabbing them for sure when they come out.

Then there's the troops problem. I grabbed two Stormtroopers and that is all for me until ST Luke and Han come out. Then I will have four STs. As for those specialty Troops (sand, scout, and eventually snow), I've set a limit for myself of one each, just to represent. That means no multi colored shoulder pads for Sandtroopers for me. I already passed on the Walgreens version, orange came out first so that's what I'm sticking with.

Then there's the problem of those big tribes of creatures like the cantina creatures, Jabba's goons, bounty hunters, and Ewoks. For those I've chosen to pick one, maybe two iconic characters to represent each. I already have Greedo to represent the cantina crew, the only others I could imagine picking up are Walrus Man, maybe Hammerhead. I'll limit myself to one Ewok, again, just to represent the Ewok tribe. I've already got my representative for the bounty hunters, Boba Fett, the others are not main characters and I'll be passing on them beginning with the upcoming IG88. Then for Jabba's group I think I will either go with Biba Fortune or the Gammorean Gueards...we'll see about that.

All of the above, of course is contingent on me liking the figure. Jedi Luke would, of course, make the cut but I just wasn't satisfied with the current version so I will wait for the next go around.

That all sounds like a lot but considering they are going to try to do EVERY character ever, it could be a lot worse.

^lol! Yeah, the Ewoks. Wonder if I could resist picking them up if they're sculpted really well if they ever do come out. It's like one of the armies you can pose against the storm troopers.

I've also been a cherry picker myself when it comes to figure collection in recent years, most especially now I have a family to support.....plus figures are just so expensive now a days.......so most definitely this black series is no exception....

though looking at the less important characters, they have ironically, better sculpts and paints than the main characters....so far I have Luke 1, Leila slave, Jabba, Darth Maul and Han Solo repack......still,waiting for,Darth Vader, storm troopers and Anakin to hit our store shelves....

Im still deciding whether to pick up the 12 council members if they come out....would be great though to sit them around a circle, like they're having a session.

Do miss the days when I can collect the entire series like Toybiz ML.

Ugh, this phrase is starting to be a real pet peeve of mine and thanks so much Mattel for introducing it into our hobby.

Was I a "cherry picker" when I was 7 and my mom told me she wasn't buying me all of the 1987 GI Joe line so I had to choose Lt. Falcon over Crystal Ball? In other words, I bought the figure I liked? (Or rather, my mom bought the figure I liked?)

Yeah, I will definitely be "cherry picking" this line.

Sorry for that little aside.....

C'mon YJB.....join the club.....I'm not only a member (no pun) I'm the president.....lucky duck I actually got Crystal Ball for an Birthday Present......I hated that fig...I traded him for some 25 Cent machine rubber balls....but so far I'm not sold on Obi Wan or Jaba....but I'm not a completist by any means....but I have picked a squad of Sandtroopers & Stormtroopers up...bad monkey I know...but all my friends are getting them....if they have Ewoks I sure do hope they go 2 to a box.....I only need 0 of them but it would be nice to see Hasslebro give a little back to the subscribers *ahem* collectors & pickers as they've been skimping on the extras lately....

^ be proud of it bro! It means mind over matter, self control...freedom from the hold of any manufacturers dictate, that completing would bring nirvana......lol!

I am also part of this club and proud of it...

This hobby became a lot more enjoyable the day I stopped being a completist...

I agree with you man. I was still a completist during Toybiz ML, got almost every single figure from that line......but I look at some of them and I realize there were some which I could have been good without, plus figures are just too expensive these days.....and just picking out the best figures in the different lines would not only make the hunt more enjoyable but also that decision making whether you really want this figure or not and if it's worth to cost you your hard earned money, would add value to your collection.

I can't imagine being a completeist and enjoying the hobby. I can't imagine being a completeist and still being able to afford living on my own. There are just so many rehashs out there...

I was out of town to the same Walgreens where I bought my first Chewie, Jedi Luke, Vader, and Proto Bobas, and they told me that they have not gotten any new Star Wars figures in since! They said they don't even carry them

I feel you Wheeljack35... There have been no new figures at retail around here since the Stormtrooper, Bespin Luke, Obi-Wan and Han wave. Walmart has started to get them now, but only about 12 cases of that same wave. Anakin, Clone Trooper, Vader, Jedi Luke, Chewie and black shoulder Sandtrooper have not been seen anywhere.

I did find 2 of the Target Shadow Squadron sets though. I really like those!
