Was 'Avengers' joke cruel to adoption community?

OMG people get so offended so easily nowadays

The joke is at the expense of Loki, the film's villain and adopted son of the god, Odin. Loki's brother Thor defends him to fellow Avenger Black Widow, who then points out that Loki’s “killed 80 people in two days.” Thor then replies, “he’s adopted.”

I think more people need to learn the meaning of "sticks and stones," and possibly grow a pair as well, and stop being so d@mn sensitive to stuff like this.

Their lives must not be too bad if their biggest concern is a small joke in a movie...

Well, Thor is a Norse God and they are not known for their PC sensibilities.

This should be a non-issue, but like everything else these days people take offense to the slightest things. Make an offhand remark that hurts someone's feelings? You are a Bully. Say something about someone not of your same ethnic background? You have committed a Hate Crime. Have to pay back loans for school? Occupy something. It is just getting ridiculous how sensitive everyone is these days.

You think that's something, you should heard what's being said in India.

I read about that one, people in India are offended they only showed the slums instead of better parts of India.

that CGI would be too costly...i mean, removing each piece of feces from visible streets and water supplies...time consuming too

I just watched it last night and the context wasn't what I thought (that Loki killed those people bc he was adopted and Thor was using that to explain why like adopted people are crazy). Before Black Widow's comment he said something like he's still my brother. So the adopted comment wasn't in any way a slight against adopted kids but Thor trying to distance his family from Loki's murders. Even if you are the sensitive type that shouldnt bother you.

Good God, I would have loved to live in the 40's and 50's and even the 60's where people wouldn't get so easily offended by EVERY F**KING THING THAT'S SAID!! The joke isn't about Loki being adopted, it's about Thor trying to distance himself from Loki because of his crimes.

This was just a wast of "reporting" if this movie flopped this would never be an issue

It's amazing how many non-issues make the "news" on places like yahoo and msn. If anything is popular or well known they'll dig and dig to find SOME kind of story. Too bad this kind of "reporting" isn't going away anytime soon. Welcome to the future.

Charachters are black and white morally either, Thor isn't perfect, even if this was offensive (it wasn't) can't that character have an issue and it not be reflected on the movie itself? Tom Sawyer and Hucklberry Finn say some aweful things, yet they are classics, can we no longer separate fictional character's flaws from whole story or movie flaws?

thor said he's adopted so some woman who was adopted wants an apology does she realise how stupid that is I mean really the movie had captain America comparing Loki to Hitler, people getting shot or stabed and had a few bad words in it yet saying "he's adopted offended her more that she needs to get a damn life
