Thinking about getting rid of the Comics

So i am currently debating whether or not to unload my comics collection. I still subscribe to monthly titles, i have a subscription through a website and get shipped all that months comics in one shipment. I've been kind of putting off reading them due to either lack of interest or time. As a result, i'm probably going to cut back to a few comics that i really enjoy. But, i currently have probably around 4000 comics sitting in long boxes in my garage. I don't know if i will ever look at them again but they are kind of sentimental due to the fact i started collecting when i was around 8, so it's almost 20 years worth of comics there. Anyone else been in this situation? Just looking for some more insight.

All I can really say is good luck. Early last year I really hit a funk and decided to get rid of all the comics I had (70+ long boxes) and quit collecting all together. There's only two shops around me and I knew neither would want the whole collection. So your basically left with two choices and then some smaller choices after that. You either sell them as a collection or sort them out into lots and sell them. The two easiest things to do are: sell them on eBay (which would take a lot of time and effort) or get lucky and sell them on Craigslist or the like. I decided to try Craigslist and got two people who tried scamming me and on guy who tried to really "low ball" me on the asking price. In the end I didn't sell them (though the thought has crossed my mind from time to time) and picked up collecting again though I'm not buy anywhere near what I was.

I know I wasn't a lot of help, but I thought I'd share.

I was in a similar situation a few years ago, although my collection was significantly smaller than yours (only 4 boxes, heh). I decided to sell what I could and give away the rest. I went back and bought trade paperbacks of my favorite stories (you get pretty good deals on Amazon).

Nowadays, I still buy comics, but I give them away to my friend after I read them. I only keep the ones I really like, at least until the trade paperback comes out. So, I still enjoy the comics hobby, but I have lots more space!

I'm thinking of selling anything that's not Marvel GI Joe, X-Men or Superman (my favorite books).

I don't know if this is a national chain, but Half Price books buys comics in bulk...there's about 4 stores in my area. I've sold to them in the past and I'm thinking about getting another bunch of books together for them now. You'll never make all your money back but I've been pretty surprised with what I've gotten in the past.

If you don't care about getting any money, and you're community has a recycling program, then just toss them in the recycling can. It's what I did.

:huh::o:o:huh: :angry: :o:( :angry:

Yeah. They're just comic books. We place far too much value on them, especially if they're from the last twenty years. Most of it is junk and anything good is available in trades.
