The Masterpiece Thread

After early this week seen the protipe of Inferno I just found on TFW 2005 that there is another one coming in the Beast Wars MP none other then Cheetor. Here is what they are saying from TFW2005.

We have news from the Shizuoka Hobby Show that the previously-rumoredMasterpiece Cheetor has been confirmed, and in addition, there’s even a silhouette pic to share with you all! Not a lot can be made out in this image aside from blacked-out versions of Cheetor’s robot and beast modes, but it is still nice to get visual confirmation that a second Beast Wars Masterpiece is indeed on the way. Hopefully there will be more to share soon!

A very exciting time to be into MPs!
Beast Wars coming, and not just a one-off like Star Saber is turning out to be for Victory.

Guys like Inferno, who is a nobody character and doesn't have a very sexy sportscar alt mode

although I think firetrucks are cool enough to be a draw in itself - he's getting made.

I love seeing more obscure US G1 guys, but it's more exciting to see how far they can go with other stuff.

Do other people find that as exciting as I do?

Do you guys want to see more guys outside US G1, like Primal and Star Saber?

Wanna see more stuff like Head- and other -masters ... Zone guys, all those guys?

Indeed very exciting to be a MP fan. Do I love seeing more obscure G1, absolutely! As long as they're releasing the G1 guys, I'm all happy regardless which character. Guys like Victory SSaber or Zone, although I have no attachment with them, I'll probably get them down the road if I have the space. But for Beast War as MP, I'm not really into those guys so it's a pass for me. I love the BW or BMachine cartoon show but I was never into the toys. Furthermore, I don't really see much a different between the original toy and the newly release MP Optimus Primal. I guess the original BW figures are pretty much up to current unlike the G1 toys where most of the toys don't look like their toon counterpart e.g. Ironhide/Ratchet, Rodimus, or UM just a one big giant leg, etc.

Well I don't mine the Beast Wars MP either. I may only get a couple if they are done right. Infact even with the show it's self there where only a small few that I did like. Cheetor I may get but the ones if they do do them would be Waspiator,BW Inferno & Tigerhawk or and Transmetal Rattrap. These where the only ones that I like well put in Tigertron and Airrazer but send they made them into one I would go with Tigerhawk. But my first gold is G1 MP then BW if done right.

Too bad Thrust is like Ramjet, a limited store exclusive.

Inferno is awesome looking. And what sort of sorcery is going on with the ladder in robot mode. That's freaking ingenious.

From what I hear the ladder is in his chest in robot mode. If you look at him in the robot mode you can see what looks like a white square inside his chest I think that is the ladder. Also some people are saying that Thrust will also be an Asia Hasbro done like Ramjet was and stores like BBTS would be getting him for about $180 or so. I just hope that Inferno is a Jan releast send I hear Thrust is an Oct. one and I want to get both of them but well not have the money for both if they came out close to each other.

Now that we've seen the alt mode for Inferno - I am underwhelmed.

This whole thing Takara is doing with making the Masterpiece toys more and more accurate to the old cartoon means a serious loss of detail and more and more simplified and blocky designs. This has really affected the alt mode here - that doesn't look like a cool firetruck. It doesn't even really look like a realistic firetruck at all. it just looks simplified, blocky and cartoonish - just like they are making all the robot modes.

And I think it's a licensed Fuso truck, but it really doesn't look like it beyond the cab and grill. The body, back and tops all just look like whatever. Hey, I know not everyone really gives a damn about the cars and trucks, but some of us really do. I like that they are expanding the budgets to gives us accessories and stuff, that's great, but the new cartoony simplified art direction is starting to make MPs that don't really go with MP-10 - MP-21. MP-10 Optimus has an alt mode that is compromised to get a nice robot, but it still may turn out that Inferno here will look out of place next to it. We will see.

I am happy the way he looks. I am more into the cartoon look then a real firetruck that he is or how Thrust looks which now you can pre-order him from BBTS which I did early this morning. But I have always like the cartoon looks more on characters then say there regualr toys or comic books. This is not just with Transformers but with G.I. Joe, He-man and even the Superfriends/Powers. I just fell more attach to the cartoons then anything else. If you don't like the way he is that is fine I'm just saying that I like how he looks and some of the others.

I have already place an order for Thrust on BBTS by the time he comes out in Oct. I should have all the money by then. Thrust was the only conehead I like and have besides Starscream as a kid and still have both of them.

Thrust is kinda my favorite as well, but the import price is just so high. Maybe by some miracle Hasbro (do they still do MPs?) will release these someday.

That would bee good, but the problem with Hasbro is they make so few of them that you get screwed if you can't find them locally.

Also don't forget that these scalpers come in the store right when it opens and takes them all. As you guys know I work at a TRU and at less in my store we have at less 3 people there that buys alot of Transformers,Hot Wheels & other stuff all the time. 2 of the 3 know me and how I love the G1 Transformers so they ask me first before getting any of them if I got my own before they take them. Well one of them is nice he knows there are some people that come there to get them so he would only take about 2 of them if we have say 4 there. Anyways it's the scalpers we really have to beat them for them. As for if Hasbro doing them anymore I really haven't hear of any news about them coming out. I hear yearly this year that Bumblebee was to be coming out but I have been looking on our computers for him and there is nothing listed for him. As of right now we do have only 2 MP Bluestreak's still in stock

MP Cheetor is an example of if you make a cool toy, people will want it.

To my eye, Cheetor looks really cool. As in, a really cool toy. And I like toys.

I have no real affinity for the cartoons, the characters, all that. I have no nostalgia receptors.

Cheetor... Fave character? No. Favorite design from BW?? Not even close. Cool toy? You betcha. And that'll get me every time.

Passing on Primal, Inferno, every MP since Wheeljack basically, but Cheetor, hell yes. And that's a genuine surprise to me.

That's a very healthy perspective, my friend. That's what this hobby should be all about. Now me, I used to be more motivated by my sense of nostalgia, especially when it came to Transformers. But now? I still like stuff based on memories and what I had as a kid, but it's also fun to get excited about stuff that you have no emotional attachment to or expectations to be met with. That's how new memories are made...

With the actual 30th anniversary of the Transformers: The Movie only a few days away, I wanted to revisit the fishing scene with a slightly different take. Hope you guys enjoy!
