WWE’s ‘Huge’ GM Announcement Is ... ?

WWE.com just posted the following:

“Both Raw and SmackDown are about to get extreme makeovers. In an effort to help determine which General Manager should control both shows, the WWE Board of Directors has decided to switch control of each show next week. SmackDown GM Theodore Long will take control of Monday night’s Raw while Raw GM John Laurinaitis takes the reins of next Friday’s SmackDown.

The decision comes one week after Laurinaitis announced at Elimination Chamber that he will seek control over both shows, bolstered by flattering testimonials by Superstars Mark Henry, Christian and Alberto Del Rio. A perturbed Long made it clear to Laurinaitis that he’s not about to take the threat to his position lying down.”

The more Raw and Smackdown drag on week after week with monthly pay-per-views wih zero competition the more the product is going to suffer. It's been like this for a decade now and those that remember the monday night wars can see how poor their efforts have become. I honestly think Vince should really start having an off season to let his guys heal up, while giving creative and the wrestlers have time to really fine tune storylines and backups in case someone is hurt. The monthly PPV's need to go out the window now as well. They are a holdover of the Monday Night Wars and have robbed the fanbase fo the specitcal that was a PPV Supercard. They need to go back to just having King of the Ring,Royal Rumble, Survivor Series,Summerslam, and Wrestlemania should be used to end the "season" and be the big pay off for fueds and storylines allowed to boil and build over the year.

As much as I think most fans would love to see the WWE go down to six or eight PPV's a year, it's just not gonna happen. The current business model that they use is dependent on the PPV and we are lucky that they went down from the 14 or so a year we were getting seven of eight years ago back to 12. If nothing else I would hope that the WWE sees that working a long term game plan can still be very successful in todays market (I think many of us are surprised that the WWE has been able to sustain the Cena/Rock for the last year, at least I know I am).
